Are there still moderators on this site? If there are, are they employed direct by Mumsnet or are they members that volunteer themselves for the role? How do you become a moderator on this site?

Didn't think you could reuse names,even if people had deregged? There must have been a Rusty before, though, because I tried that name first and couldn't have it - but it then came up in the name auction for Mile for Maude and I bought it. There were also several bears around when I joined.

But I thought losing your name was the main disadvantage of de-regging. Who knows.

Yes, you lose your name, but only because the system doesn't allow anyone to re-use a name, not even the same person re-registering, or at least not without Tech's intervention. MNHQ have been known to give repentant flouncers their name back if they grovel [bugrin]

Yes, they certainly give advantages to the craven.
