mn hq, contentious I know, but is there a way of blocking posters from posting on specific threads?

I realize this is an open forum, people are entitled to their opinions etc etc.

But really, when someone is being so offensive on a particular thread that they are having multiple posts deleted, wouldn't it be better that they be blocked from posting on that particular thread? (assuming this is possible).

Obviously this could be judged on a thread by thread basis, but sometimes when an op of a thread is seeking real support and understanding, the thread gets derailed by vile comments from one or two individuals, and those who challenge the comments of those individuals, to the extent the op is often scared away.

It would be a middle ground between banning a poster and letting them go unchallenged, surely? They would then be free to go and start a bunfight post a challenging op elsewhere and could then be challenged on it on their own thread instead of derailing someone else's.

thoughts?

I would imagine it would lead to lots of threads-about-the-thread. And HQ would combust in a puff (poof?) of smoke, leaving scattered pom bears and gin bottles strewn across London town.

I may have exaggerated the last bit.

Pinot!

JaneB1rkin · 15/03/2012 19:32

Oh yes can I ban certain people from posting on any of the threads I'm on? Please?

That would be marvellous. Thankyou in anticipation Smile

Tee2072 · 15/03/2012 19:34

Wouldn't it just be easier to create the 'hide a poster' function we keep asking for?

::flees::

(are you getting skinny boobs BIWI? Jeepers)

Honeydragon · 15/03/2012 19:39

Pinot! NEVER leave me again!!!!!!! EVER.

I kind of like it. So HQ have the power to hide the thread from the poster sort of thing?

Don't see how it could be done, but it could stop a fair bit of wankery.

BIWI · 15/03/2012 19:45

I am! Am quite pleased, acksherly.

Pinot · 15/03/2012 20:01

I am now accessing my boobs to see if they are overweight. I think they prolly are

ShirleyKnot · 15/03/2012 20:20

I know what sort of thread you are speaking of wannabe and was on that thread myself. I actually received a PM from one of the poster firstly wanting me to...I dunno agree that they were reasonable and what they were saying was actually fine (NOT GOING TO HAPPEN) and moaning about getting deleted, when I said to take it up with MNHQ they told me they have and that TADA! They Feel Sorry For Me.

I don't think MNHQ can "bar" posters from threads though.

I do think, in light of the We Believe You campaign that there should be rigorous deletion of rape myths, apologists and damaging posts (such as "Women can cry rape" for example)

It's NOT a democracy here - we do not get a VOTE. If you're going to post on a rape victim's thread then be very sure you are posting in support, belief and help rather than justifying, denial and hinderence.

Pinot · 15/03/2012 20:22

I have fat boobs.
I can't move on from this.

ShowOfHands · 15/03/2012 20:23

Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

Tee2072 · 15/03/2012 20:23

What Shirley said.

I think I'll just make a Word Document with the phrases: -

"What Shirley said"

And

"What Hec said"

And just copy and paste. It would save me a lot of time.

SecretNutellaFix · 15/03/2012 20:27

fat boobs pinot? I cannot believe that!

Pinot · 15/03/2012 20:29

:) :)

LizaTarbucksAuntie · 15/03/2012 20:33

shirley - I'd reported on that thread and the email I got from HQ didn't reflect that sentiment at all.

They made a fair point but did not suggest there was any feeling sorry for going on, hq must be more tactful than I am I think

I would like HQ to automatically filter out opposing opinions to mine on my thread, esp on AIBU because to be fair I rarely am, even when I ask.....

OliviaMumsnet · 15/03/2012 20:47

Hmm
erm
I dunno
but thanks as ever for the suggestion.

ShirleyKnot · 15/03/2012 20:53

Liza - sorry love but I'm 2 glasses of wine down (having a tough week TBH) and I lost the jist of your post.

My email from MNHQ was not saying that it's not a democracy etc, etc that's MY opinion. Grin

I was glad to see many of the most damaging posts were deleted - I am pushing for a more rigorous deletion of rape deniers/apologists/justifiers - especially and even maybe SOLELY on the support boards and ESPECIALLY when the OP is of the belief that they have been subjected to an assault and are struggling to work through it...

That is no place for debate IMHO.

shinecrazydiamond · 15/03/2012 20:56

I thought for one dreadful moment that SOH shrieked ' PEEEDO'

< strings up bunting!!! >
