I don't usually mind ads etc.. but that long boden one on the right of active convo's is really off putting.

it's on the right hand side. If you REALLY want people to look, then you put it on the left hand side. Or at the top. Not that I want anyone to act on this suggestion....

But I don't get why it's any more annoying than other ads - it's not popping up or messing with cookies or slowing the page down - is it just cos it's big?

Nope, I don't have anything against Boden or advertising, it's just in your face and for me it affects my reading - I get migraines and can see this ad out of the corner of my eye, it was nicer with a clear page of text.

I can't see anything too annoying - but I think its because DH has put some anti cookie - pop up thingy on my PC (can you tell I'm not a Techy person)

It's big, and it's making the page really long to scroll down because it's making the space for the thread titles so much smaller.

Although that's just me being nitpicky ... I don't like it all that much but I daresay I won't even notice it after a day or two.
