Please MNHQ, could you be a bit more specific about why you have deleted a post?

On a thread running at the moment, several posts have been deleted. (One of mine included!)

I knew mine would be deleted because it could have been construed as troll-hunting, and I also suggested that the OP might be researching an article/story.

The 'key' post was deleted because it was a personal insult.

Now, though, the upshot of it is that it looks like lots of people have been insulting others, whereas in fact the other posts that were deleted were those suggesting that the OP might not be genuine.

I get that if you put 'message deleted because it was troll-hunting', that you might as well leave the original posts (Grin), but it would be helpful if you could have put 'message deleted because it contravenes Talk guidelines' and then 'message deleted because it contained a personal insult'

Or something.

Otherwise we're all tarred with the same brush, IYSWIM.

A v good point actually BIWI. I remember as a newbie being deleted for something very minor and then worrying folks would think I'd been a right caaaah. Which I hadn't not that time anyway On some threads HQ get very delete-happy and it can reflect badly on Mners reputations.

MmeLindor. · 09/01/2012 09:41

Agree.

I have only been deleted twice (and one of those times was Olivia insulting my advanced years). :o

SuePurblybilt · 09/01/2012 09:42

I suggested this on the benefit-bashing thread last night, perhaps not entirely seriously. But if you read a thread later, it is hard to see who was deleted for making a hateful comment and who was deleted for swearing at said hater. It's easy to assume that all deleted posts are on the same side iyswim.

Having said that, I've no idea how it would work.

LtEveDallas · 09/01/2012 09:53

I was confused and annoyed by the benefit bashing thread...and said so at the time. I was deleted, I assume for saying that the OP 'sounded like a fuckwit' or similar. I definately didn't say 'The OP is a Fuckwit' which I know contravenes the guidlines as a personal attack - but MNHQ does make me confuddled at times.

I worry that people on that thread might think I was delted for saying horrible things about people on benefits, or people on DLA - which is NOT NOT NOT the case.

would be a good idea, on a thread yesterday a lot of people were very angry(rightly) and were deleted, so it made it look like they were the bad people iynwim, when in fact they wern't

S'alright though cos BIWI is clearly a Ninja too. And OnlyaNinja can call another Ninja, Ninja.

OnlyANinja · 09/01/2012 17:30

:o

BecauseImAWinja · 09/01/2012 19:17

Do you want to take this outside, OnlyANinja?

tardisjumper · 09/01/2012 19:23

I had a whole thread deleted by mumsnet just before Xmas as it 'was not in the spirit of mumsnet'. However I had to email them to get the details.

I had asked people to sling their best anti-catholic sentiments at me in preparation for a christmas with born-again dawkinite FIL. How is that bad? Grin

PinotBlahBlah · 09/01/2012 19:25

According to the God that is Tim Minchin, only a Ginger can call another Ginger, Ginger. So there.

HelenMumsnet · 09/01/2012 19:28

Hello. If your post is deleted, it broke our Talk Guidelines. Simples.

If you really have no idea why your post was deleted, we'd be a bit Shock tbh.
Cos you've all read the Guidelines, right?

But you know, you can always mail in and ask us why your post was deleted - we're always happy to tell you off explain.

PinotBlahBlah · 09/01/2012 19:30

No no Helen, it's not about the deletee knowing, but the other MNers knowing the reasoning...i.e so they know it was for swearing not for a Personal Attack. Or some'at.
