has it always been there? or has it moved? and does that mean if someone 'likes' that thread it will be posted to their fb page?

winterfox i can't remeber what he did that week i named changed..but i'm sure it involved peeing on something and an expensive vet bill.

redlac · 15/12/2011 21:43

which means DragOn that there are more lurkers out there than posters, so there are hundreds of people out there already reading your posts

IReallyHateMyCat · 15/12/2011 21:44

lot of lurkers dragon

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 15/12/2011 21:44

OK, IHateMyCat - you are wrong because you are not talking about active posters which, when you are trying to claim that most of the 1.5 million users aren't on a thread complaining is rather relevant.

IReallyHateMyCat · 15/12/2011 21:45

I suspect about 24,900 of those posts are probably made by about 10 posters......

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 15/12/2011 21:46

"pixie mumsnet has over 1.5 million users. Most of them are not whinging on this thread. Because they don't care."

No, most of them aren't on this thread expressing their dislike because they are not active posters.

IReallyHateMyCat · 15/12/2011 21:46

they are active they just don't post their whole lives on mumsnet like the rest of us which is probably why they aren't up in arms about it

QuintessentiallyFestive · 15/12/2011 21:46

From now on, Lurking will be a safe option. Like condoms.

redlac · 15/12/2011 21:47

so if they are not active posters, they are lurkers, therefore reading your threads and you are reaching out to a greater number of people than I have on my facebook

IReallyHateMyCat · 15/12/2011 21:48

Look if we have a large number of active posters (people who read the site) but they are not responsible for the majority of posts.. it doesn't matter. The people responsible for the majority of the posts still don't get to make the rules up as they are still the minority on mumsnet.

The lurker who rarely posts has no reason to be worried about linking to fb and probably would enjoy the ease in which they can now link. They aren't pooing themselves because they haven't posted loads of personal info on the interent.

IReallyHateMyCat · 15/12/2011 21:49

only complete abstinence is totally safe quint

GeriManda · 15/12/2011 21:50

Everyone should just start every thread in Relationships. It can be the new AIBU

winterfox · 15/12/2011 21:51

or chat, where it's deleted

i imagine lots of people have posting things on aibu which they now regret Grin

usualsuspect · 15/12/2011 21:53

Everythings posted in AIBU anyway

ImpOfThePerverse · 15/12/2011 21:53

I really, really don't get this.

Most people will only 'like' funny threads that will make their friends laugh, very few people are going to link DV or potty training threads. A thread which gets 10 likes will be shared with maybe 1000 people (most of whom won't be interested enough to click the link) as well as the 1.5m MN users.

I know one of my RL FB friends is a MNer because she has bought almost every one of the 'MN swears by' products and often uses MN phrases. I have no idea what her MN user name is, whether she lurks or posts and I am unlikely to find out unless she posts anything really identifiable that I happen to see.

I have clocked a relative on here when she started a thread giving away a bit too much info in the title. Scarier than that after she namechanged I spotted her again from a thread title, a 3 word thread title with no real personal info - most people on here are really surprisingly obvious to anyone who knows them.

If you're worried about people finding out who you are and digging up old threads then complain about the advanced stalk search function. It is way more efficient than trying to google the same info.

I namechange all the time but this is a subject I go on about quite a lot. It's a public board, you only remain anonymous if you make the effort to keep it that way.

GeriManda · 15/12/2011 21:53

But Relationships has no Like link

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 15/12/2011 21:58

Oh, FFS. Can you not grasp that I am not commenting on how many people read information on MN? I am pointing out that the vast majority of the 1.5m people who glance at some part of MN haven't expressed their dislike of the "like" button because they don't bloody well post! It's not because they agree with it. Sheesh.

They don't even look at talk, probably. Apparently there are other areas of MN.

I am not "pooing myself" at the thought of how much personal information I've posted. I just think that the "like" button is a really shit idea and utterly crap and thick.

winterfox · 15/12/2011 21:59

chill out dude

IReallyHateMyCat · 15/12/2011 22:02

What winterfox said. If something really upset a luker they have the option of saying..actually im a lurker, but i dont like it.

My point is.. they have no reason to dislike it.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 15/12/2011 22:03

Bog off dude.

usualsuspect · 15/12/2011 22:04

If a website upsets you so much ,maybe its time to leave

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 15/12/2011 22:04

Who are you to say whether anyone has a reason to dislike something? Are you the thought police?

IReallyHateMyCat · 15/12/2011 22:05

No, but I'd love to join the common sense police.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 15/12/2011 22:05

The website doesn't upset me.

Perhaps if you want X, Y or Z from a website you should go and find one that has those things...?

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 15/12/2011 22:07

Well, given that the majority of people who expressed a preference preferred whiskas hate the like button, it would be common sense to have a rethink.
