a thread I started last night isn't showing in aibu or as hidden in my options?

Was it this one

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 30/10/2011 07:41

You upset loads of people and are banned forever from AIBU, you heretic.

Not a clue, didn't see it to start off.

MangoMonster · 30/10/2011 07:47

:)

OP posts:
MangoMonster · 30/10/2011 07:49

Yes it is, just wondered if I'm going crazy? Can't see it in aibu, doesn't matter. Thanks!

It appears that some self-appointed MN post police are patrolling the board and complaining to MNHQ if they think your post is not 'suitable' for AIBU.

Even if you have phrased your question specifically as an AIBU, are inviting a lively debate on a topic, and have a very good reason for wanting it to be in a high traffic area.

The post police are obviously favoured posters because MNHQ will not move it back if you ask. Oh, and these posters do not even have the good grace to post on your thread or PM you to say that they have asked the thread to be removed.

Hmm
purits · 30/10/2011 08:00

Definitely a weird one. I posted on it, went back to active convo and couldn't see it.Confused I can find it through my internet history but not through MN.

Tee2072 · 30/10/2011 08:02

Feel better Thistle? Because that thread is still in AIBU, so MNHQ haven't moved it.

Maybe better to check facts before kicking off and looking silly?

purits · 30/10/2011 08:03

But. Thistledew, I found it this morning on active convo, posted on it and then it didn't come back on active convo.

MangoMonster · 30/10/2011 08:09

Must be a bug...

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 30/10/2011 08:11
Grin

You had all the outrage and the sarcasm nailed down. The facts - not so much.

Grin poor old thistle.( It is quite funny though.)

Thistledew · 30/10/2011 08:27

I was talking about what seems to be a general trend on this board and information I have been given by MNHQ when I complained about my own thread being moved.

Pagwatch · 30/10/2011 08:30

Oh Thistle
Don't be grouchy. It was quite funny. And exactly the sort of thing I would do. Grin

(no, never thread police btw)

Thistledew · 30/10/2011 08:31

Quote from the email I received from MNHQ:

"We moved it out of AIBU at the request of fellow MNetters as it isn't actually an AIBU.

...

We are moving threads that are reported to us to the subject specific areas and being a little more proactive about 'tidying'."

Tee2072 · 30/10/2011 08:33

The point Thistle is that this thread was not moved and is still in AIBU. So your rant was pointless.

And I happen to agree with you about 'the thread police'. I think they are wasting time and energy of their own and MNHQ. Like you just did.

MangoMonster · 30/10/2011 08:33

It did disappear but is back now.

OP posts:
Thistledew · 30/10/2011 08:39

I apologise for not checking whether the OP's thread had in fact been moved, but I am actually pissed off that my thread was moved. I wanted to get what I was posting about to as wider audience as possible, as when I had previously posted on this topic on quieter threads it had very few responses. Other posters had suggested I start a thread in AIBU.

MangoMonster · 30/10/2011 08:45

I can't understand why your thread would be moved to be honest. I though aibu was open for anything?

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 30/10/2011 08:46

Fwiw
Having everything in aibu just increases the idea that every thread can be a free for all.
It makes posters think that they can be endlessly rude with qualm because aibu is the gloves off section
Posting in aibu dies get you more traffic but most of that additional traffic will be 'oh do fuck off' or 'this shouldn't be in aibu'

Those 'policing threads' are wasting their time and I don't join them but this thread alone makes it hard to argue that the tone of the whole board is becoming more combative.

Pagwatch · 30/10/2011 08:50

Mongo

Aibu was set up to accept threads where posters would post random stuff where they were prepared for posters to be frank and honest which is subtext for a no holds barred argument.

No every thread is like that. And now people post in aibu with anything they want lots of replies on but get upset if the replies are frank.

Plus if sone total twat posts an aibu about maybe bereavement, people just reading the thread get upset too.

So no. It isn't open for anything. It is more the lowest common denominator

MangoMonster · 30/10/2011 08:51

I think most other areas that i use are friendly. Aibu isn't supposed to be friendly, that's why I posted there, I was looking for opinion not advice, information or support.

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 30/10/2011 09:03

Mango

I haven't even seen your thread. I am not referring to your individual thread.
Thistledew moved the conversation on to a more general one about aibu didn't she?

OliviaMumsnet · 30/10/2011 10:42

Hi Thistledew
To reiterate the email that we sent you
It's nothing to do with favoured posters and all to do with the recent debates about AIBU generally, see Justine's post here

Thanks MNHQ
