Can we have a cull of the topics list?

Discussed this on the AIBU thread in site stuff.

People get pissed off witg the fact that some topics are too quiet and so people post stuff in aibu when it shouldn't be there. That may be because loads of people hide topics which do not interest them, so some topics get no traffic.

Do we really need to have so many topics. For instance, could there not be a Pets topic. Is there reallt any need to dogs, cats, hamsters, chickens, horses, FISH to have their own topic really?

There are too many sub-topics I think and it is a pain in the arse I think.

I was all for you Maryz until the use of Hmm. I'm afraid I shall have to join Camp Showy on this one [fickle emoticon]

TheSkiingGardener · 27/10/2011 19:31

It's no blimmin' use BTW.

I had a lovely thread suggesting we merge Food and Recipes. Everyone agreed and MNHQ said they'd think about it.

What happened? NOTHING

I even bumped it in desperation

Humph. Would go frothing beserkery but can't be arsed.

ItsonlymeMrsDB · 27/10/2011 19:31

I feel betrayed.

People want a 'like' button ?

I despair, I do, honestly.

KatieMortician · 27/10/2011 19:35

Actually most people do not want a like button. But Justine is going to run with it any way. Let me look for the thread

hocuspontas · 27/10/2011 19:36

While we have Olivia's attention, is this a good time to ask again for a vomit emoticon? It could be used when TMI is provided and also when someone is being particularly sycophantic. A BOGOF emoticon in fact. And get rid of the ones I never use Brew, Thanks and Wine.

No humphing allowed oh wintersportshorticulturalist

KatharineClifton · 27/10/2011 19:51

NO! Under this regime I would have to see AIBU again and couldn't hide out in The Dog House and Camping sections. I also have no interest in the fish section though - they are either alive or dead, usually without much time inbetween.

ItsonlymeMrsDB · 27/10/2011 20:28

Thank you very much Katie. Much appreciated. I shall read.

ItsonlymeMrsDB · 27/10/2011 20:32

Well I think MNHQ are wrong, wrong I tell you to trial a like button when most people DON'T WANT IT !

I think they are being very unfair going against the majority vote.

And if I had been here and seen it, I would have voted NO. (Clearly).

I apologise for not paying enough attention, I have had a lot of RL coming between me and my mn-ing time.

Drat.

Stop it ! Lenin.

It's wrong !

IShallWearMidnight · 27/10/2011 21:24

getting back on topic here, I had an issue which I wasn't sure whether to post under Mental Health, Teenage Mental Health, General Health, SN children or SN teenagers. Was really hard trying to work out the most appropriate section, as well as which one had people actually reading it, so I ended up not bothering to post about it, and dealing with it myself. Which was really hard as it was complex, and I could have done with some support/advice/general hand-holding.

So yes, a culling of topics would be helpful. IME
