Come and celebrate our new [thanks] emoticon by saying Thank You to a Mumsnetter who's made a difference. Spot prizes to be won and all!

Hello.

We have a new emoticon: Thanks

It's meant as a way for say thank you to someone for something nice/funny/amazing they've done or said. And it's in no small way inspired by the lovely Mumsnet Blanket Crew who've been agitating- very politely but very persistently Wink - for a thank you emoticon for some time now. (They originally wanted a star but we thought a bunch of flowers probably had a bit less of the 'prefecty'/'sticker chart' thing going on.)

We want to mark the arrival of our new emoticon by starting this special Thank You thread - and inviting you to say Thanks to another Mumsnetter who's made a difference to you.

Perhaps it's a Mumsnetter who has posted (or PM'd) something that helped you or supported you or inspired you ? or just made you laugh like a drain. Or maybe it's someone who's done something extraordinary for you, off-board or on.

Do come and tell us about it - and thank her/him for it - here. We're hoping for a thread full of Thanks for some truly lovely MNers.

Oh, and we've also got some rather covetable prizes - books, toys and some very cool (child and adult) bike helmets from Bell - to give away as spot prizes. Anyone who posts on this thread is in with a chance of winning - we'll pull names at random out of a hat in a couple of days' time.

Thanks, MNHQ

I'd like to say Thanks to StealthPolarBear for her lovely welcome back. It made me Smile

jamaisjedors · 30/09/2011 19:03

I want to say thank you to PositiveAttitude Thanks who has done such a great job of bossing us all around Wink sorting us all out over the last 2 years of our book swap - I think what they say about if you want something done, ask a busy person, must be true in her case so thank you - without you it would all fall apart.

Also Thanks to Tillyscoutsmum who kindly sent me a book a while ago (19th wife) and who was amazing on the book chat the other night (and I'm guessing puts loads of work into the book club in general.

Bit of a book theme there, but on a different note I can also thank the style and beauty board for lots of great advice and "larfs" and the feminist board for all the great thought-provoking discussions.

Ha - not sure Style and Beauty and the Feminism Boards will appreciate being lumped in the same thanks, but to me, that's MN!

toomuchteaching · 30/09/2011 19:59

Oooh and to Jer79 who organised a brilliant Oxford meet up that has resulted in the most fantastic bunch of friends Thanks Although I do now waste my Fridays in a wine cafe and spend too much money on posh ham!

Whelk · 30/09/2011 21:22

I would like to say thanks and Thanks to all the lovely supportive people on the Allergies Board - Weta, babybarrister, chocomum, greenbananas, freefrommum and all of the others....

And a HUGE thank you to the person who I can't rememeber Blush who when I posted about my beloved granny dying when dd2 was 8 weeks old and how torn I was about not being able to be with granny, suggested that I write her a letter.

I wrote straight from my heart, thanking her for the many things she had done for me, from bringing me up when my parents split up to the help in breastfeeding my dds. She died two days after reading it.
It has helped me enormously knowing that nothing was left unsaid and that she knew just how loved she was.
And I can't even remember who suggested it. But thank you.

There's too many to name individually but I'd like to thank all the ladies on the TTC after MC and pregnancy after MC. They've helped me through some tough times and I count several of them as true friends. Thanks Thanks

Gauchita · 01/10/2011 08:27

Thanks to the ladies in the June 09 postnatal thread, their support has been wonderful and invaluable these two-odd years.

And Thanks to everyone here, really. I've learned SO much, I'm constantly moved by the solidarity shown and the number of times I sit laughing in front of the screen when on MN are now too many to count.

Conundrumish · 01/10/2011 09:45

I would like to give Thanks to Drowninginlaundry who offered me so much help on the waterproof coat thread the other day. She has so much technical knowledge that I couldn't have got from anywhere else other than someone trying to sell me a coat.

Also, I know it was a few years ago now, I still chuckle about the Easter that penguingate kicked off. It was one of the funniest week-ends I have had, so Thanks to Shiney.

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 01/10/2011 11:25

Lots and lots of MNers have offered me support recently and I really need to get out of this namechange and back to normal so before it does disappear, thanks everyone. Things are great for me atm Thanks
And the one MNer that sticks out for me was many many moons ago when Peachy helped me out during a horrible time with her words of wisdom. I really appreciated it, and have never forgotten it Thanks

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/10/2011 12:41

ThanksThanksThanks - to KnottyLocks and Purplepidjin for enabling the beautiful blankets, and for all their hard work on them.

ThanksThanksThanks - to all the people on mumsnet who have made me laugh out loud - too many for me to remember - but you have cheered up my days no end.

TheOriginalFAB · 01/10/2011 13:23

This is such a lovely thread.

I want to thank Thanks every one for putting up with me, I know I have been a massive pain at times but I could never explain how much I appreciate you all for letting me stay putting up with me Thanks.

gazzalw · 01/10/2011 14:39

MarsLady · 01/10/2011 15:22

Thanks To all the MNers that have allowed me the privilege of being at the birth of their babies (and there have been many).

BoysInTheHood · 01/10/2011 18:54

I'd like to say Thanks to the all the posters who helped me out on the pregnancy boards last year.

Thanks to the posters on the SN board who've helped me so much on and off since I joined MN.

And finally, Thanks to my wonderful Nobdies, they've been kind, funny and supportive and they have no idea how much their friendship has meant to me this year.

SESthebrave · 01/10/2011 21:52

I'd like to say thank you Thanks to all those who have supported me through my mcs over the years and through the resulting paranoia of my pregnancy with DS. Especially those on the mc boards and the wagoners thread Thanks

A particular thank you also to NatalieJane Thanks who urged me to ask for a presentation scan in the week before DS was due. It showed he was lying in a very dangerous position and I was kept in and had a CS as a result. If she hadn't posted as she did, I may not have got my scan and would have had a very complicated and risky birth. Thank you NJ Thanks

beatenbyayellowteacup · 01/10/2011 21:57

ah big Thanks to ItsMeAndMyPuppyNow, garlicslutty, AnyFucker and anyone else who helped me see that the guy I was dating was in fact, a big loser.

And for being kind and supportive on the Stately Homes thread when I was sinking.

PotPourri · 01/10/2011 22:21

Thanks to teej for making sense of the unfathomable doctor whoe! xx

PotPourri · 01/10/2011 22:23

Thanks to tiktok. Your advice has both helped me breastfeed and helped me get over my disappointment at not being able to for previous babies. No nonsense, always supportive, but never judgemental ime.

MissTinaTeaspoon · 02/10/2011 14:17

The lovely ladies in the Sixth Form Common Room on the conception boards deserve a big Thanks. I think I would have gone slowly mad without them. I can't name them all on here but ladies, have a collective Thanks.
