fgs why cant we delte own posts in say a 10min time fram after posting

and 2, can we have an @ style arrow for replying to people

like @wankerchops no i think your idea is great

kinda thing

OP posts:
OpenAmyrillis · 24/01/2011 15:50

I like these.

Tee2072 · 24/01/2011 15:51

No no no deleting. Short time frame editing, sure. Deleting is bad bad bad. Makes for holes in the boards.

FluffyMummy123 · 24/01/2011 17:35

I don't care about holes. It's just so primitive we can't edit

OP posts:
Eleison · 24/01/2011 17:36

Editing would make a nonsense of discussions. It's ok on Twitter, where everone is just making wisecracks or pointing to something elsewhere.

Eleison · 24/01/2011 17:38

likewise deleting.

FluffyMummy123 · 24/01/2011 18:34

i mean for about 10 mins after post

OP posts:
RebeccaMumsnet · 24/01/2011 20:29

Thank you for the suggestion, anyone else have any thoughts on this ?

No to deleting & editing.

Like in RL - you say something and then go on to explain it and clarify points as required. Like I dunno a conversation or something.

AtYourCervix · 24/01/2011 20:48

@ reminds me of that twitter bollocks I have never got my head around.

I would have said no to deleting or editing but the proliferation of auto correct typos drives me nus.

And a wine glass would make me very very happy.

marriednotdead · 24/01/2011 21:05

Unless I'm thick, I can't pick up on a thread I'm on where I left off/posted last.

And I'd sometimes like to.

Definitely no to 10 minute deleting/editing of posts- too easy to manipulate. 1 minute perhaps?

JustineMumsnet · 24/01/2011 21:39

Re deleting. It would make a nonsense of the boards - people reply so quickly - if you were able to change your posts, replies could make no sense. Tbh that's why we have the preview button.
We've discussed a quote facility before - we've developed this for webchats and mnhq. Be very happy to roll that out on the site, but when previously canvassed folks were, on balance, anti the idea.

Feel free to add your thoughts here.

WikiSpeaks · 24/01/2011 21:41

Oh no to quotes either - just use the " marks!

It gets so disjointed when people are quoted replying to quotes etc.

Leave MN as it is I say!

yes - I like being able to just say maryz I agree with xxx.

Putting it in bold is fine.

It is much more like a normal conversation!

WincyEtNightie · 25/01/2011 15:31

Deleting/editing would be a nightmare.

If there were to be any kind of edit feature it would have to be in addition to the original post. Eg OP can come back and add in pertinent information and/or retract what they said. At least that would stop pages and pages of flaming when the OP has already clarified or conceded on a point.

I'm torn about the quotation stuff. I've seen it on other sites and it looks bloody awful. But I do tend to get RSI scrolling back up to see what eg maryz actually said. I should probably just get better at noticing who is posting what though Grin

WikiSpeaks · 25/01/2011 15:37

Wincy just use f3 fey - voila scroll no more!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 25/01/2011 15:38

I think there should not be the ability to delete posts except within the parameters that MN have already in place.

But editing? Meh, maybe, but the original post must stay intact and only be amended by some crossyouty wizardry.

And the @ idea. No so keen. Doesn't scan correctly dahlinks.

southeastastra · 25/01/2011 15:39

sticker to yer twitter fishface Grin

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 25/01/2011 15:49

Justine - please no deleting and no editing. What SGM said at 20:42 and what is in your post at 21:39

I would quite like something to 'quote' other posters but not what you have as I think that gets too messy when everyone has the facility to do that. Happy to C&P. Something like the bolding, but actually not quite so bold - perhaps something that changes the font but is recognised as quoting another poster - it's too late for the ^^ or ** to mean that exclusively.

WincyEtNightie · 25/01/2011 16:03

Ooh, I'm liking F3 Wiki

Though if everyone was as tidy as ChippingIn I would be even happier Grin

WikiSpeaks · 25/01/2011 16:04

I know!!!!! F3 has saved me hours of scrolling time!

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 25/01/2011 16:44

Wincy [bgrin]

Wiki - can you 'undo' F3?

BitOfFun · 25/01/2011 16:46

Please no.

I like that you can't edit or delete your own posts, and quote functions just make a mess of the boards.
