buttons for 'inbox' and 'sent' msgs

I spotted a glitch the other day and posted, concerning the inbox, then saw 'sent' message handling was worse (up / down to next / previous messages always went back to list of messages), and bumped that (though no sign of acknowledgement it was seen)...

Now the 'up' arrow is showing a "." (I was going to link to an image but it should be easy to spot) for both inbox and sent messages (once a message is being viewed, IYSWIM).

One day (2011) it may work. Just don't change the code while "under the influence" please, Tech bods, else your "clear thinking" and even any comments in the code will perhaps be "unclear" in the sober chill of a January morning.

Just adding a comment so maybe someone at MNHQ will spot this (unrelated to page blocking from StopBadware.org)

Sun is out, for the moment, up here in N Wales, even if we did have a bit of snow (could no longer see the tracks from last few days, and even the cars that did move this morning had their tracks covered over.... up to 10" possible by 3pm so am off out to buy essentials like cat food).

I'm not able to see the "." you're talking about in Firefox or Chrome. Could you give a screenshot?

It doesn't happen in Chrome, but here's a couple of screenshots (in 1 .jpg) from Firefox, which I 'captured' in the last 10 minutes...

However, far more important than the odd 'previous' button, is that on the 'sent' items, either 'next' or 'previous' buttons take one to the message list.

Wonder if you can check whether AdamTech is about too... (Geraldine, as you have been lurking today) the lack of "^" isn't a big deal, but if you click 'next' or 'previous' message (on SENT Mail only) it always gives the list. Have tried it with Firefox and Chrome, will be happy to check it also fails with MSIE and Opera and will even fire up my old Mac to check with Safari if need be...

Just tried to jump to a different SENT message and (don't remember if UP or DOWN) it went back to the list of messages.

PLEASE fix this.

Oh dear.

INBOX messages have UP and DOWN buttons.

SENT messages have LEFT and RIGHT buttons.

Hmmm, now I feel a really tiny bit guilty as I have just seen that some people are off sick at MNHQ, but given this problem was first reported almost 2 years ago, it still needs a big BUMP :)

I know that this is on the Tech to do list and has been for 2 years someone infinitely more techy than me will let you know how close we are to sorting it aht.

Know the "to do" list may be very long, but this has been waiting quite a while, so even an estimate of 3 months would be nice... given there was meant to be some indication around 7 months ago...

NB problem is not the arrow graphics, that was fixed in 2010, but that the next/ previous message functions (when viewing a message) go to the list of messages, NOT the next/ previous message

(and, from post of 01.01.2011, it's only on the Sent Messages where this fails)

Hello. Yes, thanks for the nudge. As you know, this is a glitch we're aware of and it is on Tech's to do list.

Hope you'll understand that said to do list has to be prioritised so that the stuff that's broken gets fixed before the stuff that's just a bit annoying/not as slick as it should be.

We will flag this one up again, though.

If you go to 7th page of messages, look at one, and then want to see the next one, just by clicking 'next', I can positively assure you this is as broken as some more popular part of the site your Android app... OK, there are ways (like clicking back, and then choosing another message) around it, but it's a %$£$&&% pain in the bum.

Thanks for flagging it up again though... have certainly been trying to be patient.

I must say the way the messages are arranged in inbox and sent box is not exactly intuitive, it's quite awkward to use satisfactorily.

There are times I'd like to search contents of messages (eg to find the person with a Freeview problem in Dorset), or to find chat with someone by nickname.

If I come to Site Stuff because of something else, I get mentally "jogged" that there's a problem not satisfactorily fixed, and then find it and bump it :) Think it niggles that there's never been any response to say it's X months down the list...

I know smartphones and adverts are perhaps higher importance :) but a bug is a bug!

The problem with jumping to next/ previous message in SENT messages is STILL THERE (now 2014).

I don't really care how long the to-do list is, this one seems to have dropped off the bottom of the list.

Quite understand that Apps are the "be all and end all" of life for some MNetters, and therefore MNHQ, but...

as "next" and "previous" ( "" buttons) on INBOX are working, WTF is wrong with copying the code to do the same thing on the SENT mail too?

Yes, this was marked as a ZOMBIE THREAD as it is so old, and YES, I want to reanimate it. Sorry MNHQ, when I saw this problem still there, I just lost it and went into a strop !
