What exactly IS the rule on profanities in thread titles?

Because I note a signifant inconsistency of approach in deployment of the Trigger Finger

is "cunt" only to be tolerated when it is used as an insult rather than as a reference to female genitalia?

or is it only when posted by me that it warrants immediate deletion?

cunt should not be in thread titles imo.

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOTSleeves · 03/11/2010 14:28

perhaps not

but what I am asking is whether MNHQ are going to delete ALL threads with obscenities in the title, or just ones started by me

because at the moment this is unclear

pah that's just favouritism, I want a thread deleted

BitOfFawkes · 03/11/2010 14:33

I think they don't like you to swear in thread titles because of over-the-shoulder readers IYSWIM, but unless people complain, I don't think they automatically delete.

So it has probably got a lot to do with things like the time of day you post, and whether you have managed to get up anybody's nose so they want to grass you up!

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOTSleeves · 03/11/2010 14:34

I dunno BOF it feels a tad personal to me

HQ have gone into overdrive with the deletions lately and it's pissing me off tbh

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiLand · 03/11/2010 14:38

How can anyone delete a thread for cunt when cunting sainsburys stood for weeks.

I don't like deletion for profanity reasons. One of the best things about MN is the lack of over zealous monitoring.

I don't give a monkeys about over the shoulder boulder holders readers. If your kids are looking over your shoulder tell the mto buzz off, it is rude.

GetOrfMoiLand · 03/11/2010 14:38

I doubt it is personal Greeny.

Reckon lots of cat bums mouth types reported it at the same time.

DanceInTheDark · 03/11/2010 14:39

CUnting MOthercare only got changed when Mothercare moaned asked to change it.

BitOfFawkes · 03/11/2010 14:40

Oh I agree. What got deleted, Greeny?

The deletions that really bug me are the ones where the OP flounces and says "I'm having this deleted!". I always want HQ to tell them to piss off.

BudaisintheZONE · 03/11/2010 14:42

Have to say i hate the word but I did laugh when I read the title, clicked on it and as if by magic it was gone!

I really don't like the word and especially don't like it in thread titles. And I swear like a trooper usually.

I do like the phrase "cunning stunts" though.

GetOrfMoiLand · 03/11/2010 14:44

I never ever use that word - but don't get offended by it.

I don't see how people can find it offensive, unless a poster says something like 'getorf you are a cunt' which is abusive and should be deleted.

But the use of the word itself - just bloody well leave it. If you don't like it you can hidet he thread.

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOTSleeves · 03/11/2010 14:45

I undertand people not liking it

and I would also understand a blanket ban on using it in thread titles

I do not, however, understand the scattergun approach whereby HQ decide to delete things seemingly at random and offer no explanation for the inconsistency

I am starting to wonder whether HQ would quite like me to just fuck off

in which case I'm sure they could trump up some reason for banning me rather than just deleting me every five minutesHmm

OP posts:
Lotster · 03/11/2010 14:45

a. cunting Sainsbo's was a triffic thread.

b. Mumsnet is a lot more in the public eye than it was then and possibly has more of a rep to protect?

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOTSleeves · 03/11/2010 14:47

if that is the case, Lotster, then why are they not deleting all threads with obscenities in the title?

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiLand · 03/11/2010 14:49

What else have they deleted of your greeny? Other than cunt threads?

Am sure MNHQ don't want you to fuck off, you are well loved mner.

Lotster · 03/11/2010 14:55

Hmm, maybe they just can't be across all of them? There are about 100 threads on just the 1st page of the 847 pages of AIBU threads alone.

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOTSleeves · 03/11/2010 15:18

still no response

isn't that odd? If they delete a whole thread would it not be usual to say something about it?

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 03/11/2010 15:20

I think profanities in thread titles should be banned
Think of those of us who MN at work Blush

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOTSleeves · 03/11/2010 15:22

Well, if they are banned that is one thing

but it is not the subject of this thread!

clearly at the moment they are NOT banned

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 03/11/2010 15:23

won't someone think of the slackers???

MoralDefective · 03/11/2010 15:25

Get on with your work you cunt.Grin
