ok
you have all broken me
I am going to have a cup of tea and punish myself for having an opinion!!!

Cant see whats wrong with the advert!!

JoolsToo · 24/08/2005 10:26

right mears is off the hairdressers - good luck

I'm going to paint - I hope ALL these threads have disappeared by this afternoon

Caligula · 24/08/2005 10:29

Toothache I'm not thinking that by posting the links, people will agree with me. I'm posting them so that everyone who has made arguments, doesn't have to re-post them for the benefit of those who haven't read the arguments and post bewildered comments about not understanding why people are annoyed.

You can disagree with people being annoyed, but there's no reason not to understand - the arguments are there, to be read. I'm not sure whether I agree or not with people who say it's no big deal, but I understand their arguments, because I've actually bothered to read them.

mumtosomeone · 24/08/2005 10:29

read tik toks post!!

Tinker · 24/08/2005 10:38

Well, I know this thread has moved on but I just wanted to say that the loss of Tik Tok is a huge loss to this site. The support she has given directly (hope I'm not out of turn naming popsycal and berolina as names that immediately come to mind) and indirectly (me, and I assume others, as thread readers) has been far greater than anything I'd get outside of MN. I hope, if this situation is resolved, you an come back TT.

ssd · 24/08/2005 10:40

mumto someone enjoy your tea!!

nailpolish · 24/08/2005 10:42

maybe tiktok could stay but not offer advice in a professional capacity.

after all, im sure shes not a bf counsellor every minute of every day. (or is that why they call these jobs vocations?)

nailpolish · 24/08/2005 10:44

in other words, i disagree with a lot of things, but i wouldnt leave some chat forum cos of 1 ad.

i do understand why tt is leaving (professionally) (she said it affects her via WHO or something) but its not as if she is on the mn payroll or anything...

mumtosomeone · 24/08/2005 10:46

will enjoy my tea thanks!! Feeling very down now!!!!

mumtosomeone · 24/08/2005 10:46

I agree nailpolish..fwiw

dyzzidi · 24/08/2005 10:53

I have briefly read through this thread and am sorry people do feel like this.

I do not see the huge problem with the advert. I see many adverts for things which i don't agree with I just choose not to buy the things they advertise.

I understand Tiktoks point of view but feel poor MTS is being critisized for having a different one. The whole point of mumsnet for me is that you as an individual can have your view and yet respect other peoples and hear both sides of the argument.

I don't see the point in leaving because you don't agree with an advertisement but if thats what tiktok wants to do then its her choice to make.

mumtosomeone · 24/08/2005 10:55

thanks dizzy!
I understand her choice, but i still dont understand what is wrong with the ad!!
But I think I best shut up now!

fickle · 24/08/2005 10:56

This is one of the craziest threads I have ever read!!

Caligula · 24/08/2005 10:59

Then you haven't been mumsnetting long enough Fickle

Surely there must have been crazier?

katierocket · 24/08/2005 11:01

Indeed Caligula - grape anyone?

Caligula · 24/08/2005 11:04

Ha ha ha - wondered how long it would be before someone mentioned grapes.

Springchicken · 24/08/2005 11:12

Jesus, it has just taken me an age to read this!

It personally does not bother me, i will decide what i right for me and my baby regardless of what other people say or do, however, I can to certain extend understand why the likes of Mears and TikTok feel so close to issues like this.

I personally dont think i would ever leave over something like this but its each to their own.
As Fio and toothache have said, Mumsnet is a business and we don't know what happens behind closed doors.

Toothache · 24/08/2005 11:17

Caligula - You can be a right cheeky mare you know! I have bothered to read them.

Nevermind anything about breast or formula.... some of the attitudes on this thread are down right rude!

troutpout · 24/08/2005 12:38

Personally..i have no problem with the advertising. i am a grown up...and can make my own decisions about how i feed my babies. I would assume other grown ups can do the same.

oliveoil · 24/08/2005 12:38

Oh no, just as it was about to drop off as well.

caligula · 24/08/2005 12:42

Well you may have, Toothache, but lots of people very obviously hadn't and it just got very tiring the thought of writing it all down again. And irritating. When you've already gone through a whole great big argument and all the issues people are raising have already been aired and answered, it is just annoying when people who haven't been involved come in and want to take the discussion back to the starting point of three weeks ago, from which it's moved on quite a bit. Of course they've got the right to do that, but yes, I was getting a bit tetchy about it!

Sorry!

caligula · 24/08/2005 12:42

And troutpout, have you read all the threads (and there are about 5!)?

troutpout · 24/08/2005 12:48

i think so Caligula... Most of what i wanted to say has been said ...but just thought i would 'add my voice'

Blu · 24/08/2005 12:50

Of course, the 'no compulsory subs' aspect does ensure access to people who might well rely on this site, or need it in an emergency.
it also ensures a much higher hit and usage rate....which then attracts much higher revenue from advertisers than subs could be relied upon to do.

caligula · 24/08/2005 13:07

Troutpout, to assume that other adults can make the decision they want to breastfeed their babies, ignores the fact that many women find it immensely difficult to do so and without support from a trained professional, are forced to give up.

I think you're being very dismissive about that.
