My ladybits has eaten my mooncup

Ok I know there have been a million mooncup threads, but this is an emergency. I really need some convincing that this mooncup thing actually works. So far, I have spent the best part of the day trying to retrieve the damn thing from what I know realise is a vacuum powered undercarriage. It reaches a certain point and then is sucked in, never to be seen again. And it leaks. I'm also not overly keen at sticking my hands up there to find it. And my bathroom now looks like a scene from psycho. So please someone convince me that they actually work

Now this is why I am too scared to own a mooncup

You need an expert!

feedthegoat · 17/04/2010 22:58

Don't scare me, I bought one this week .

chipmonkey · 17/04/2010 23:07

You have to bear down, squeeze it to break the suction and continue to pull even though it might feel stuck. It will come out and you will get used to it!

Botbot · 17/04/2010 23:08

Same thing happened to me. I dug around up there for a long time, eventually managed to break the seal, and haven't been near it again. Terrifying.

tootootired · 17/04/2010 23:10

I have successfully used a mooncup for 2 years (at appropriate times of the month, obviously). Sometimes takes a while to get it set up right but normally fine.

Am too squeamish to make more detailed suggestions but are you still 'stuck'?

LauraIngallsWilder · 17/04/2010 23:11

How are you doing notsotiny - any joy yet? [hopeful]

notsotinybaba · 17/04/2010 23:15

I did bear down and (sorry tmi) a spurt of blood fired out!!! I'm not normally a squemish person but this near finished me off!!

When I manage to get hold of it (thank goodness I didn't trim the whole stem off) it seems very stuck. It honestly feel like some very strong suction is pulling it back in!! I am laughing at this but at the same time am finding the whole experience rather horrible.

Do they always leak a bit or am I doing something wrong?

Use a piece of toilet roll when you are gripping it.
Grab the end, squeeze gently and twist to break the suction. It should then come out

Rockbird · 17/04/2010 23:17

God I must have a fanjo like a bucket! I've never had a problem with mine, straight up and straight down, maybe a couple of pushes and it's out...

Have you had it yet?

notsotinybaba · 17/04/2010 23:20

I managed to get it out earlier but not wanting to be defeated I put it back in again (which I also struggled with, at one point it kept unfolding itself and was rather like being twanged with an elastic band!!!)

It is staying where it is for tonight!!!!

RedBlueRed · 17/04/2010 23:24

I've used mine for a good few years now and still struggle to break the suction sometimes

As others have said, you need to bear down as if you are going to poo push it out and then squeeze it to break the seal.

Mine doesn't leak now that I have got the hang of it btw.

Now I am scared. It's starting to sound a little like giving birth.

notsotinybaba · 17/04/2010 23:33

Thanks for the tips, I will keep trying (not that I have a choice unless I want to leave it up there!!)

I have been toying with the idea of trying one of these which is why I started reading this thread. My mind is definitely made up! Although I truly sympathise with you notsotinybaba, I am writing this through tears of mirth. Am I wicked for finding this thread so amusing?

chipmonkey · 18/04/2010 00:06

The main thing to remember is that however it feels it will NOT turn your fanjo inside out!

notsotinybaba · 18/04/2010 10:52

Well I left it in overnight and the good news is it didn't leak. The bad news is it was obviously very happy up there and wouldn't come out. It took me over half and hour and at one point I had the horrid realisation that I might have to get a doctor to remove it, or even worse ask DH to find it!!. I could just reach the tip but couldn't grip it to pull it out. The whole bearing down thing really reminded me of childbirth (without the pain though!). Surely it is not supposed to be this difficult??!!

I also discovered that my fanjo appears to have a u-bend. Not sure what's going on there.

Well I am going to stick with it as I'm not having gone through the last few traumas for nothing. So despite my better judgement it is back in

P.S is it completely safe to leave it in for so long?, mine was in for around 12 hours

OP posts:
bronze · 18/04/2010 10:55

I dont bear down just press one side and pull (at the same time)

Just reach the tip sounds too far in to me

soapboxqueen · 18/04/2010 10:57

i tried a mooncup once. It got stuck and had to get dh to sort it out. Never again

honeydragon · 18/04/2010 23:00

Have you tried two fingers and sqeezing the base, as you pull?

Mine occasionally feels like it has gone for an unspecified bimble - but the reality is it has just slipped sideways a bit.

Mooncap do reccomend slipping finger over top of the rim but this is not recomended if you have long nails.

Would never be parted from it though, its kind of mystical - once I started using it my cramps got loads less worse then with tampons or towels -- weird.

WhyFrank · 18/04/2010 23:20

You can email the mooncup people for advice. They're really helpful. Restored my faith after I got what felt like a really painfully bruised ovary last month. I haven't had the opportunity to try again yet, but I so want it to work, damn it.

warthog · 18/04/2010 23:27

i do the squeeze with 2 fingers thing as i pull it out. it has reduced my period pains significantly. i will never go back to tampons. i have no tampons in the house much to the horror of my friends.

JackBauer · 18/04/2010 23:35

my top tip is to take it out while sitting on the loo. That way you are in right 'position' without tensing muscles. Just scooch your bum back a bit.
It does sound like you are putting it in too high though. Check the pics on mooncup website, it doesn't go as high as a tampon.

I love mine but did have a scary few hours once when i couldn't get the fucker out, and of course the more panicked you get the harder it is!

MmeLindt · 18/04/2010 23:35

Sorry, but LOL at this. You have a very funny writing style.

I leave mine in for ages, keep forgetting about it. Don't think it is a problem.

Mine leaked the first couple of months until I got used to it and now rarely does, only when I don't insert it correctly.

I find that if I give it a little twist after inserting it, it seals properly.

notsotinybaba · 19/04/2010 20:30

Well I am still persevering. I can really see the benefits, but really not sure it will work for me. My fanjo honestly has some crazy suction thing going on, I hardly put it in at all (literally until its not sticking out) and it gets sucked in! DH had commented in the past on feeling like he's stuck in a vice!! . When I had DD she fired out at great speed, the midwife caught her like a rugby ball. This is clearly not normal!!
