My ladybits has eaten my mooncup

Ok I know there have been a million mooncup threads, but this is an emergency. I really need some convincing that this mooncup thing actually works. So far, I have spent the best part of the day trying to retrieve the damn thing from what I know realise is a vacuum powered undercarriage. It reaches a certain point and then is sucked in, never to be seen again. And it leaks. I'm also not overly keen at sticking my hands up there to find it. And my bathroom now looks like a scene from psycho. So please someone convince me that they actually work

Do you deffo have the right size?

notsotinybaba · 19/04/2010 22:23

I think so? I've got the size recommended for over 30's and vaginal birth, both of which I am. Do you think I should try the smaller one? Would be scared that it would be lost forever.
I might try buying another one and leaving the stem on (so that I have more chance of being able to reach it) - but when I left it on last time it kept sticking in me so have cut off about half the stem.

sorry but literally LOL at U bend and vice like fanjo...

oh if only. i am

Pannacotta · 19/04/2010 22:39

You'll get used to it, it takes a bit of time to get used to putting it in and taking it out IME.
Have you tried coughing when you need to take it out? That usually helps relax your pelvic floor muscles...

chipmonkey · 20/04/2010 14:14

I would email the mooncup people and see if they would send you the smaller size free of charge? Might be worth a try?

BertieBotts · 20/04/2010 14:23

In the manual, it says that many smaller pushes are better than one big one.

You really need to break the seal - have you done that? Don't worry about spilling it everywhere, just keep pushing and easing it further down, then grab with one finger and thumb as high up as possible and squeeze, you should hear a little "slurp" and then you can kind of pull it out, sideways or upright. I have to push a bit as I ease it out sometimes too. It is uncomfortable, I guess you get used to that bit, I have only used it for one cycle so far. It is slightly reminiscient of childbirth, but a LOT less painful, owing to the fact a mooncup is flexible and much smaller than a baby's head! (Although I am apparently odd in that I find the similarity reassuring)

paisleyleaf · 20/04/2010 14:28

.

Sorry. I'm just marking my place for the rest of your period.....this is funny!

I actually have had the same as you. I put it in low and it disappears up a 'u' bend (my smear tests are fiddly too).
I only use it when I have to now - swimming etc.

notsotinybaba · 20/04/2010 22:05

ok so now I feel slightly about sharing all this info.......however I am now taking about 10-15 mins to remove it which is much better. I think just knowing that I can remove it stops the panic and makes it easier to remove.

BertieBotts - I try to break the seal but I can't reach high enough, I can literally grab the end of the stem with my nails (ouch!!!) and cling on for dear life.

Anyway, thanks for all the advice, and it has made me laugh a lot, even if it has been tainted by panic/ disgust/ horror.....!!!!!

P.S advice to try coughing was very bad, do not try it unless you are very confident in your pelvic floor muscles......

i am definitely sticking with more traditional methods! thankyou for the LOL factor, but i am now too scared to try a mooncup. who the fuck decided to call them moon cups anyway? that makes them sound rather nice when the reality is getting it stuck up your bits quite possibly never to be seen again.

im afraid to use one now. i was afraid to use one before however...

bibbitybobbityhat · 20/04/2010 22:15

Oh lol lol lol baba. I am sure you will master it sooner or later. Have to say this thread makes me very GLAD I am 47 and therefore cannot really justify the expense of a mooncup any more. Because I would otherwise be tempted to try.

Can virgins use them? (am thinking ahead for my dd).

BelleDameSansMerci · 20/04/2010 22:15

This is the best thread title ever...

I've been thinking about a Mooncup. I think I'll think for a bit longer.

Missus84 · 20/04/2010 22:16

Sounds like yours is sitting really high up! I find mine actually sits quite low - lower than a tampon would. I can run my finger up the side to break the suction.

notsotinybaba · 20/04/2010 22:18

Vicar please don't be put off, lots of other people are fine with them. I am clearly a freak of nature!! And the reason I've stuck with it is that there are a lot of benefits (such as not having to think about is all day). Just don't trim the stem until you are confident you can remove it (I should have read that bit of the leaflet!!)

paisleyleaf · 20/04/2010 22:19

bibbity, what have you found that's cheaper then?

bibbitybobbityhat · 20/04/2010 22:27

Paisley - I assume I'm not going to be having periods for much longer because of my great age. They are already going a bit haywire. A mooncup seems like a bit of an investment at this late stage.

BertieBotts · 21/04/2010 12:55

OK, sounds like you have got the hang of it now but just for the record I sometimes have to "push" while holding onto the stem bit, otherwise when you stop pushing it just goes back up again.

Also sometimes a bit of clitoral stimulation helps to relax things a bit down there

A virgin could use one technically, but I think it would depend on how confident and comfortable you were with your own body etc. I don't think I could have used one, even once I had had sex I don't think at first I would have coped with it, I also had that panic moment of "It's not going to come out!" but then managed to calm myself down by thinking "OK, I got a baby out of here without too much damage, this should be manageable!" and I think it would definitely break the hymen, so that might be a consideration.
