They're a bit weird aren't they? I asked it to direct me back from the tip today (two miles from home) and it tried to send me via the M25 (ie a journey of about 10 miles).

Am also finding the constant beeping very distracting. I don't break the speed limit very often so I don't NEED to know where the speed cameras are so STOP BEEPING AT ME

Can you tell I got one for Xmas?

i love my tomtom.its called graham(named after my driving instructor).we did fall out recently as i was bit nervous about driving somewhere for first time and hadn't realised they're are so many stupid roundabouts.'at the next roundabout'

although dh pointed out if i hadnt brought graham i could have brought an ipod touch which is my new want.

holidaywonk · 01/01/2010 11:01

Is yours a Garmin too then OBM?

LOL at Graham and his roundabout fetish

onebatmother · 01/01/2010 12:00

yes, a garmin.
Actually apart from 'more in sorrow than in anger' voice that she uses for 'ricalculating' when you go orf-piste, it's pretty good.

Infantilising, but I quite like that

holidaywonk · 01/01/2010 12:03

Well let me know if you work out the preferences...

damn wasn't here. In Kent for new-year-a-day-too-late

Paolosgirl · 02/01/2010 15:57

We've got a TomTom, and I love her more than I love DH and the kids (obviously not, but almost). She's been the best thing we've ever, ever purchased, and has never let us down.

onebatmother · 02/01/2010 18:39

I paired my phone with Mrs Garmin to do poncey handsfree and now I can't make any calls at all. Can't get it off handsfree. TEchnology zut!

holidaywonk · 02/01/2010 18:48

Ah. Mine just refuses to acknowledge that my phone exists, despite me having Bluetooth and everything. Am quite glad tho cos not sure I need further distraction on top of the bleeping, ricalculating etc

I am actually the voice of a satnav system... this is one of the (many) reasons why I would never really use one. I am of the 'BBC newsreader' type more than 'sexy lady in the passenger seat' ilk I fear...

DoesntTheTurkeyDragOn · 02/01/2010 20:30

Do you say "Ricalculating", Nancy?

CaptainNancy · 02/01/2010 20:41

I most certainly do not Soupy!

WilfSell · 02/01/2010 20:41

CapnNancy!

Brilliant

Please tell me you are Jane?

onebatmother · 02/01/2010 20:49

Really? How FanTASTic Nance!

DP and I were just discussing the pain that you might have gone through wrt the intonational variations required of you. '..left..', 'left.', 'left!', 'LEEEFT YOU FUCKWIT ARE YOU DEEEF?!'

Also 'dunstable, dunstanton, durham' must be tedious. Did you get paid a lot ?

onebatmother · 02/01/2010 20:50

¡Hola! Wilf!

IMoveTheStarsForChristmas · 02/01/2010 20:52

ahh.. thank fuck I will never need one

My parents offered to get one for DP for xmas (why, we have one car and he cycles to work) and he just said 'why, whenever I'm in the car I have IMove SatNav'.

[grin

WilfSell · 02/01/2010 20:53

Onebaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

Happy NY to all the SatNav wankers who seem to be on this thread?!

I Lolled at Passive-Aggressive satnav. DH has been going on and on since we got ours last summer about getting the Mr T voice. I have declined.

onebatmother · 02/01/2010 20:54

Also I should point out that for many modern gentlemen the BBC newsreader woman is by no means incompatible with sexy passenger seat woman.

onebatmother · 02/01/2010 20:56

Well quite IMove. And no satnav can do pass-agg as well as I can.

yes HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! Wilf are you well?

onebatmother · 02/01/2010 20:57

What happens if CaptNance IS Mr T?

DoesntTheTurkeyDragOn · 02/01/2010 21:05

Or she may be Elfred the Elf...

IMoveTheStarsForChristmas · 02/01/2010 21:08

and what is pass - agg

just got it.

agreed.

'No. It's straight over the roundabout. towards the sign that say's 'hometown'. Not it's NOT the other way, that goes to Northampton. ~rolls eyes~'

Now.. if a SatNav existed that did that, it might teach DP a sense of direction

onebatmother · 02/01/2010 21:15

Yes, partic if could do random silence, forcing driver to ask for directions again but more politely. Now that would be a SatNav worth having.

Captain Nance we're all agog - come back!

DoesntTheTurkeyDragOn · 02/01/2010 21:17

I'd like one that sulks if you ignore it rather than say "Recalculating" (or, in the case of Elfred, "thinking... thinking...")

onebatmother · 02/01/2010 21:26

'thinking..' - oh brill!. I am SO having that as my NY catchphrase.
