Would you take (used) make up back if you thought it was a bit shit?

Just wondering as my mum bought me some Benefit make up, which I mostly love, but one of the things she bought me was Bad Gal lash which promises 'mile-high' lashes. It does absolutely nothing for me though, I did try it. Plus I'm loving my clinique mascara that just comes off with warm water, no panda eyes which is what this one has given me and is the reason I haven't worn mascara for years till discovering clinique.

It just seems an awful waste of money. Would you take it back and say it was a bit crap even though you'd used it?

Yes. But I'd wind up getting another product.

HohohoBumperlicious · 25/12/2009 22:22

Don't mind getting another product, I mostly like benefit, but I like them for their unique stuff like benetint etc. I wouldn't by basics with them, lipsticks etc.

I just wish I hadn't even used it and taken it straight back as I knew I wouldn't like it just coz it's not the clinique one (not that the clinique one makes my lashes look much better it just comes off so easily).

Is it cheeky though?

I don't think so. I'd not mention the Clinique, just tell them it smudged and gave you panda eyes.

I like Clinique mascara, too, the one in the silver tube. But I can't afford it so I use this pretty good Miss Sporty stuff.

Cheappinkfizz · 25/12/2009 22:28

Bad girl lash it shite! Ends up very clumpy very quickly.

I'd try to take it back if I were you. Especially if you don't mind getting more benefit stuff,

BunnyLebowski · 25/12/2009 22:28

After months of serious coveting I bought the BadGal mascara only to be seriously disappointed. It's shit.

If I were you I wouldn't bring it back and would buy Max Factor 2000 Calories in black from now on. It ROCKS!

MostHighlyFavouredLady · 25/12/2009 22:29

I probably wouldn't dare, but I'd love it if you did.

A lot of make up turns out to be crap - and you can't always try it out in the shop as not everythong is displayed with a tester.

Good luck.

MostHighlyFavouredLady · 25/12/2009 22:31

Thongs for testing - horrid thought!

expatinscotland · 25/12/2009 22:32

I got sick of wasting money on makeup.

Now, I take it back. I have receipts and am willing to try another product, but fuck it, a lot of stuff breaks out my skin and I don't have endless pots of money.

As long as you're polite and to the point.

I've never been turned down.

I just walk up to the counter and when they ask if they can help I say yes, take out the product and receipt and tell them the truth about how it worked for me.

BunnyLebowski · 25/12/2009 22:34

i used to use their bo-ing and the lemon aid was good.

benetint never worked for me.

i have combination skin and my cheeks were always too dry to blend it well as quickly as you need to.

HohohoBumperlicious · 25/12/2009 22:38

Thanks for the replies by the way, didn't see them before I replied. Think I will take it back, just explain that I didn't like it, my lashes weren't mile high and it was really hard to take off.

I have taken stuff back becasue of faulty packaging but never becasue I didn't like it.

I have a few things I'd like to though.

You can swap stuff on makeupalley.com if you can be arsed

HohohoBumperlicious · 25/12/2009 22:45

I love lemon aid, it's perfect for me as I have dark eye lids, but have some and it's lasted forever. Hmmm, may request an exchange for Ooh la lift.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 25/12/2009 22:46

I like the eye shadows, too.

MostHighlyFavouredLady · 25/12/2009 22:55

What's lemon aid?

I swear by erase paste as it's the only thing which covers my dark circles - the famous Touche Eclat gives me itchy red eyes.

expatinscotland · 25/12/2009 23:02

touche eclat is shitty shite.

NiceShoes · 25/12/2009 23:13

Yes,why not.take product back exchange for something else.I don't actually know how this works but expect a good retailer would do so. From boots I was bought clinique toner no2 and it dried my skin they exchanged for more suitable product

NiceShoes · 25/12/2009 23:16

Worst so called premium product,I ever bought was Elizabeth Arden 8hour cream it is only smelly Vaseline - total rip off.

expatinscotland · 25/12/2009 23:25

OMG. My mother and I were in Boots and they had a 'special limited edition' version of that stuff, in its original packaging design.

So we went and approached the counter.

One whiff of that stuff and we were off!

HohohoBumperlicious · 26/12/2009 08:48

Urgh, talking of whiffy products, I bought that eve lom cleanser, urgh, the thought of it still makes me want to vom, and once I got morning sickness I just had to stop using it full stop.

Is erase paste really good then? I am a dark circle sufferer.

Lemon aid is a yellow cream that you put on your eyelids to neutralise them, especially good if you have dark skin on your eye lids.

BonjourIvressedeNoel · 26/12/2009 23:44

I bought some green eye shadow from no 7 that I had a reaction to ( my eye swelled up). I got a refund.

HohohoBumperlicious · 28/12/2009 17:24

So I asked in Boots today and they refused as obviously they can't resell it. Funnily enough though I was at the Estee Lauder counter debating whether or not to buy the Night repair stuff and the girl behind the counter said that if I didn't like it I could return it, as with everything they sell. So it's a bullshit excuse really, they should be sure enough of their products that they guarantee them.

I might email the HQ and see what they say. Worth a shot?

stressheaderic · 28/12/2009 17:31

Just agreeing with above posters that Bad Gal massy is shite. Don't buy it anyone.

Do love a bit of 8 hour cream though, the coal tar smell reminds me of having my hair washed in Vosene when I was younger.

figrollinthehay · 28/12/2009 17:33

I'd definitely take it back if it is giving you Panda eyes. I have taken No7 stuff back when it has irritated my skin.
