.... for no other reason than he is sick of me whining about the stereo in my car (mini Ipod can be played through any FM reciever using a special gadget). Obviously I'm thrilled to bits with this spontaneous treat, but now I need to get some tunes on it.

I know the site I'm getting them off but want some recommendations for tunes.I like pretty much any sort of music apart from Thrash metal and tinny dance music, IYSWIM... Have you got any new(ish) albums or downloads you love ? I've got 4GB to fill so all suggestions are welcome !!!!!

James Blunt "Back to Bedlam" when you're in a melancholy mood. The Hal one is good for driving on a sunny day.

Can you buy a connector thingy for an ordinary iPod? DH hits 40 soon and would be a good pressie.

sweetmonkey · 20/06/2005 12:25

its called an i trip and you just plug into top of ipod and tune it in to a radio station , think my bro got his one on ebay for about 10 or 20 pounds
HTH

NomDePlume · 20/06/2005 12:26

yoyo, I think it only works on the mini ipod, and you have to buy it online cos i think it is unlicensed here in the uk......

I'm a retro groove at the moment and enjoying Pink Martini's Hang On Little Tomato, and the remastered Manhattan Transfer's Pastiche.
Neither of these could be described as remotely thrash-metally or tinny.
My other favourites are Divine Comedy and Guy Chambers' and Sophie Hunter's forthcoming The Isis Project looks good too.
And St Etienne have a new album out....

NomDePlume · 20/06/2005 12:27

Yeah, they're only about £20 - £30 new. But I don't think they're terribly, ummmmmmmmmmm legal here in the UK. Excellent gadget tho

SoupDragon · 20/06/2005 12:32

You're right, the iTrip isn't legal in the UK and you "agree not to use it in the UK" when you buy one.

Yeah, right

NomDePlume · 20/06/2005 12:34

Lol ! Rest assured I'll only be using mine when in licensed countries....

Oh yes, us too Well we would if only we had an iPod mini to go wih it - DH lost his!

I assume it's something to do with the frequency it broadcasts on.

NomDePlume · 20/06/2005 12:42

i suppose it's illegal for the same reason as Pirate Radio stations.

NomDePlume · 20/06/2005 12:51

desperatehousewife · 20/06/2005 12:52

do you reckon it's safe to buy electicals from ebay?

NomDePlume · 20/06/2005 12:53

I think it's ok so long as you choose a seller with good % feedback

NomDePlume · 20/06/2005 12:54

So you can buy them but not use them legally. Sound quality depends on frequency that you've tuned it in to then?

csa · 23/06/2005 09:48

so the itrip works for both ipods and mini ipods?

fairyfly · 23/06/2005 09:53

New coldplay album
James Blunt

csa · 23/06/2005 09:59

one more question - which product does anyone recommend on this site to go with a mini ipod? what's the difference between a car dock and a transmitter?

mogwai · 23/06/2005 11:21

Another vote for the iTrip

Thoroughly illegal

Thoroughly wonderful
