.... for no other reason than he is sick of me whining about the stereo in my car (mini Ipod can be played through any FM reciever using a special gadget). Obviously I'm thrilled to bits with this spontaneous treat, but now I need to get some tunes on it.

I know the site I'm getting them off but want some recommendations for tunes.I like pretty much any sort of music apart from Thrash metal and tinny dance music, IYSWIM... Have you got any new(ish) albums or downloads you love ? I've got 4GB to fill so all suggestions are welcome !!!!!

The Magic Numbers? Can't remember what it's called.
New Brian Eno album is supposedly very accessible with proper songs

mogwai, what's the quality of the reception like? did you get yours off this website?

pinkmama · 23/06/2005 11:57

I dont know where you are csa, but our quality of reception is fine, however when we drive up to in laws in London we cant use it (not that we would it being illegal and all , because I think there are so many more stations broadcasting and I have never found a free space to transmit ours through. Could be just me being useless though!

mogwai · 23/06/2005 12:03

csa my dh got it from ebay. It came from new york. I think he paid £30-ish

we tune it into 87.5 fm

the reception is fine, just like a regular fm channel. It does go crackly if you drive under a bridge though. I suppose if there were more of them, you would get interference from other cars.

It's really handy in the house - just sit it next to the radio

smellymelly · 23/06/2005 12:06

We bought our itrip from a seller on ebay, for under £25 and it is great, it is not illegal to sell or buy them, just illegal to use them in the UK, we used ours in France on our mini ipod. Dh is really pleased with it, we downloaded loads of our albums.

smellymelly · 23/06/2005 12:09

csa - we also got a car dock, but you can get a car dock with a built in transmitter, so you do not need the itrip seperately. We got them singularly so we can use the ipod in the house in France too, when not near a computer.

mogwai · 23/06/2005 12:10

my dh downloaded our entire CD collection over the course of a fortnight - you just put them into the computer and link them into iTunes, which searches out the artist and title and downloads that as well.

It takes about 5 mins to download the average album. When you have all the albums, you just tranfer them to the iPOD - complete with all the track names (you don't even have to input them manually). That bit is really quick

Must admit I was cursing my dh for fiddling with the thing for a fortnight, but the end result is superb

Before you buy the iTrip, consider the cassette adaptors that are also on sale on the iPod world site. FOR EXAMPLE

You can also use the cassette adaptor in most stereos (though a Monster iCable is highly recommended for that purpose, being able to listen to your iPod via your stereo speakers). You don't have to bother with finding a signal or anything like with the iTrip. It's straightforward, just pop it in and play.

oh no. all these choices. i have a headache now i know what i shall do. was going to get the mini ipod and a "transmitter-type-thing" to use in car for dh for our anniversary. i will now get the mini ipod and tell him to choose the device he wants. he can work out which ones he prefer. ha ha
thanks all for your help.
