Stokke Sleepi Care changing station - all its money?

We need a new changing station for #2 (due Oct). The vinyl on DD's M&P one is ripping at the edges and exposing the sponge beneath which makes it unwipedownable (IYKWIM) and therefore less than hygenic. The Stokke version looks the part and the fact that it can be used for other things in the future appeals, but is it really worth all that dosh? No-one sells Stokke/TrippTrapp at any redution, so before we shell out I'd be grateful for recommendations/warnings. Thanks.

I'd do the same, Edgarcat, but back problems and osteo bills suggest standing is a better option.

I use a changing mat on top of the chest of drawers, my friend used her dining table.
I also use the floor - sit down and your legs can be used for pinning down struggling toddler, whilst keeping hands free to work

I bought a chest of drawers with a changing station built into the top, available from John Lewis. It is at just the right height and having dd's clothes stashed in the drawers underneath makes changes very easy.

I have a Stokke cot and changing station and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They were bought for me but they are expensive and you can only use the stokke bedding for the cot. The price is deceptive as you also have to buy the accessories in order to change the cot to a crib and to a junior bed. Definitely NOT worth the money. Wish I had gone to IKEA! The cot looks like an oval cage - not at all attractive.

What does everyone else think of the stokke products? I do like the Tripp Trapp highchair and have just bought one but wouldn't ever recommend the cot or changing station....

I got a set of shelves from Ikea with a changing top, which has been great - melamine with a pine top. The changing top faces the right way (ie baby's bottom is presented to you, rather than baby being sideways on). And the top removes easily so that it can be used as a shelving unit later. Thoroughly recommended and not expensive.

I got one that goes over the top of the cot (under £20 from Toys'r'us) - think regular mat combined with board and pegs to stop it sliding. Ds has never managed to roll off, but I've the comfort that if he did he'd only fall into his cot.

Alternatively, can you not take your old one to get re-covered ? - an upholsterer should be able to do it.

Am checking with Mamas and Papas about a new vinyl top - don't think it's right that it should wear out when the first child to use it is still in nappies and is likely to be for a while yet. If this works will save a small fortune and will stand you all a drink down the MA.

I am very confused now.
