pyjamas and horrible boys clothes

hi everybody, just thought i would have a moan at the lack of pretty boys clothes. After struggling to get my ds (13m)into babygros i thought about looking for some pyjamas however all i seemed to find was disgusting printed ones with thomas the tank engine and postman pat. There are lovely little girls stuff all pretty and pink.
However yesterday i took a trip to marks and spencers and found some gorgeous ones and he got a beautiful towelling fluffy dressing gown perfect for after swimming or before/after a bath.
I was really suprised they have some lovely things in at the minute .. not to old or to young for his age. Zara impresses me too even though their sizes are ridiculous.
Where are your favourite places to shop?

LOL at "pretty" boys clothes. If you have the money, Boden do nice children's clothes, and you can get some bargains in their sales!

gingernut · 12/05/2005 10:31

loulabelle, it only gets worse as they get older I'm afraid. I have found some nice things in H&M and Pumpkin Patch and Boots though, and I agree M&S has some nice things for younger boys this summer.

Once they are over about 5 it is totally dire though. I am going to leave my dh to do the shopping from then on I think, as I won't be able to bring myself to buy such tat.

Tissy, I thought the Boden boys stuff this year was horrible.

loulabelle222 · 12/05/2005 10:37

i find that french designer miniman do some beautiful things for boys, ds birthday outfit was from there it looked beautiful. For cheaper stuff .. but not that cheap..i also like jojo maman bebe.
thanks for recommending boden... off to have a look!

I like Debenhams and Next for boys clothes - I never buy anything with skulls on though

Tissy · 12/05/2005 10:41

gingernut- I have a girl, so what do I know about boys' clothes

elibelly · 12/05/2005 10:46

I have bought some nice boys pj's in John Lewis without characters on them. I love Boden for kids although their boys summer stuff is a bit limited this year. Next is good too and cheaper. H&M is hit and miss but you can get some great stuff if you look hard enough, and I also like Gymboree, they've closed their shops over here but you can order online and they ship to the UK. With the £ being strong against the $ it doesn't noticeably cost more than buying from here.

gingernut · 12/05/2005 10:56

Ahhh, Tissy, that explains it then .

BTW, see here and here for previous threads on this kind of topic!

These are nice from GLTC.

I have bought lovely clothes from Tchibo online, but their product lines do change quite frequently.

gggglimpopo · 12/05/2005 11:06

Cheap, cheerful, no disney/actionman/spiderman/postmanpat and the range changes every couple of weeks. Wash and wear well. need one ask for more

gggglimpopo · 12/05/2005 11:19

Have just had a look and don't like the range at the mo - but the whole lot changes so frequently that it is worth looking again in a few days. Am not into logos or slogans myself, and tend to go for their basic flat colour range - lovely pale blues, chocolate, khaki and marine blue mix and match shorts and shirts, and the old fashioned pyjamas.

dinosaur · 12/05/2005 11:30

The vertbaudet catalogue is very good. Have bought lots of nice boys clothes from it. They are not horrendously expensive and they seem to last well - handy when you have three DSs

gggglimpopo · 12/05/2005 11:35

Beets - new Gap being built in bordeaux as we speak. Direct tramline from my house. Heaven.

dinosaur · 12/05/2005 11:39

Gap do nice clothes but they're very BIG - okay for my chunky DS2, not so good for reed-slim DS1!

H&M used to do nice children's clothes, but I haven't been there for ages.

triceratops · 12/05/2005 11:40

Monsoon do some lovely boys clothes - but wait for a sale. I bought ds pyjamas from thewhitecompany and they are lovely and have worn incredibly well. I used to like gymboree, it is a shame they are gone. Ds is three and has no interest in skateboarding at all, why can't the high street understand that?

SoupDragon · 12/05/2005 11:42

I hate Boden (too poncey!) but like Pumpkin Patch and H&M for boys clothes. Pumpkin Patch also have sensible boys PJs.

triceratops · 12/05/2005 11:49

Warning - Rant Alert, boys clothes are my pet hate

I can't stand

logos,
numbers with no meaning whatsoever (he is not an american footballer),
the word Next on everything,
skateboarding references (he can be a yob when he is a teenager),
ridiculous small hoods (what are they there for? they are a pain to iron),
any reference to bad behaviour (because boys are always naughty aren't they? its ok because it is in their genes) ie Here comes trouble/It wasn't me etc,
overpriced clothes with television characters on (we make our own with printable iron on t-shirt paper),
huge clumpy shoes only available in black or brown.

I could go on but it gets me annoyed just thinking about it.

jodee · 12/05/2005 11:54

This is all very well ... and I don't particularly like logos/action man/spiderman on everything, but if I bought plain t-shirts etc. for DS he just wouldn't wear it!. Once they get to about 5 they like to have a say in what they wear, unfortunately, so I'd rather he wore Spiderman on everything if he was happy than me waste money on t-shirts that sit in the drawer unworn.

Bozza · 12/05/2005 13:05

DS has had a say in his clothes since being much younger than 5 jodee - he's only 4 now. I have actually tended to buy him pjs with pictures on to appease him because his daytime clothes are not like that. Also I find that underpants with pictures on have the useful advantage of ensuring he puts them on the right way round. Bit unfortunate at Christmas though when I fed his current Spiderman obsession with a 5 pack of spiderman pants in his stocking and he went round everyone pulling down his trousers to show them his pants....

jodee · 12/05/2005 13:27

Bozza! I aqree - power rangers on the front of ds's pants ensure they go on the right way round!

alterego · 12/05/2005 13:56

Agree with Bozza's tactic - pictures etc. allowed on pjs and underwear but not on day clothes (unless bought by relatives ..... gggrrrrrr).

Also hate the Next logo/number on virtually everything they do and only buy the less obtrusive ones. Don't like Boden boys stuff much either though - most of it's a bit poncey is you ask me. I like skateboard stuff though , ds1 looks really cool in it even though he hasn't got a clue how to skateboard.

teeavee · 12/05/2005 14:01

I buy stuff in dpam (french shop) because I don't want my boy to be dressed in navy, brown and beige all his life! they have some really cute stuff, in nice bright colours, and are very reasonable (better value than vertbaudet, i'd say)
