pyjamas and horrible boys clothes

hi everybody, just thought i would have a moan at the lack of pretty boys clothes. After struggling to get my ds (13m)into babygros i thought about looking for some pyjamas however all i seemed to find was disgusting printed ones with thomas the tank engine and postman pat. There are lovely little girls stuff all pretty and pink.
However yesterday i took a trip to marks and spencers and found some gorgeous ones and he got a beautiful towelling fluffy dressing gown perfect for after swimming or before/after a bath.
I was really suprised they have some lovely things in at the minute .. not to old or to young for his age. Zara impresses me too even though their sizes are ridiculous.
Where are your favourite places to shop?

And I am not a pink, girly person either so she wasn't copying me!

PhDMumof1 · 13/05/2005 12:15

La Redoute in France, and Du Pareil Au Meme are great, and have websites which deliver to you here in UK I believe.

elibelly · 13/05/2005 12:20

Is my dd weird then because although she likes pink she prefers red, black and orange, and I'm bu**ered if I can can find many girls clothes in those colours.

I find sizing more limiting than styling tbh, my ds is very big (long in the body and broad) for his age and so many boys clothes are made for skinny lads. H&M, Boden and Gymboree are the best for broad in the beam tops and trousers, especially as he's still in nappies and needs extra room around the bum.

I must say I do try to avoid tanks, guns, football, large print branding and 'Little Geezer' type things, but don't mind camoflage, safari, or even the little monster type things if it's cute and fuzzy.

snafu · 13/05/2005 12:27

Have just been looking tulipandnettle.co.uk - swoon! Not sure about the berets, though...

SamN · 13/05/2005 12:28

have come in late on this thread but would like to agree and sympathise with all those other mums of boys. Ds1 (3yo) has a pile of clothes with 'number 1 trouble maker' and such like, and even more t-shirts, trousers and tops in khaki or camoflage, because last year we moved house twice and had another son who has been rather ill - so most of the clothes were bought by relatives and I just wasn't with it enough to vet them. However I prefer to shop at Vertbaudet myself, which isn't expensive as they send you discount codes all the time. Plus I now have discovered jako-o (as recommended below) and also notjustpinkandblue .

and I love it that ds1's favourite jumper at the moment is one his grandma hand-knitted for him

Loulabelle222 you sound so familiar....hmmmmm.... I haven't done clothes shopping for my DS in aaages.... that trip to town I have planned is going to have to be a massive splurge!!

fastasleep - what did you mean by that? are you the same?

loulabelle222, I know one of the graphic designers who dreams up logos and stuff for the Jean Bourget boys' range. i have to say I wasn't too keen on their boxing--style thingies this season though...
He lives and works in Cholet near Nantes, France -and can get the clothes for next to nothing from the factory. Incidentally, almost all the kids clothes made in france are concentrated in the Cholet area, and you can buy the stuff really cheaply in the factory shops there. My sister--in-law gets Pomme-d'api posh shoes for about a tenner - they're closer to £60 in the shops.
That's if there are any Mnetters close to the Nantes area.....(you never know!)

teeavee · 13/05/2005 14:28

just been on tulip and nettle and bought one of those lovely shirts for my boy - and a jacket for myself - on the sale

really like their stuff- but did NOT need the jacket...feel guilty now...

Marina · 13/05/2005 14:32

But we have been known to holiday near there though teavee! at living in such a lovely and useful part of France.

aloha · 13/05/2005 14:37

teeavee & snafu - aren't they lovely? The shirts are fantastic quality and everything comes up quite roomy.
Tend to agree with you re the berets however
And the jacket is lovely. You'd have been a fool not to buy it.

teeavee · 13/05/2005 14:59

aloha -
If you say they're quite roomy, is that the case for their adult clothes too?
I ordered small as it says 8-10 (I'm normally a 10, and 12 can be too wide across the shoulder area)........anyway, if I have to send it back, at least I'll have a clearer conscience!

aloha · 13/05/2005 15:13

I haven't bought any of the adult clothes...because I'm too fat! DD is only 12 weeks so I've either been pregnant or jelly-bellied and hence excluded from the lovely clothes...sob.

loulabelle222 · 13/05/2005 15:19

i don't like that stuff either but i have bought him a plain all white short and t shirt set , some blue dungarees and a white sleeveless pull over they r lovely

OP posts:
snafu · 13/05/2005 15:22

The girls' stuff is just divine, aloha - almost worth having a dd for! I do like those hero shirts - am quite tempted to get a flowery one for ds...

SoupDragon · 13/05/2005 15:36

Could not possibly purchase anything from tulipandnettle... why on earth does the boy in the "winter shorts" picture have his socks pulled right up??

elibelly · 13/05/2005 15:56

sorry tulip and nettle does nothing for me either, too much gingham for a start

loulabelle222 · 13/05/2005 15:59

i don't like it but thats not because i don't like the style just don't like my little boy in shirts! makes him look like and old man!

OP posts:
snafu · 13/05/2005 16:03

Oh, I looove the gingham shorts...poor ds won't know what's hit him this summer hehehehe

wordgirl · 13/05/2005 16:05

OK, hands up - who on earth would dress their ds in that sailor suit?

snafu · 13/05/2005 16:06

Yeah, the sailor suit is pushing it, I agree. But there ain't nothing wrong with a bit of gingham and aertex

wordgirl · 13/05/2005 16:12

I'll let you off then snafu but someone must buy them

spykid · 13/05/2005 16:29

As a mom with 2 ds's , I have to say that I have relaxed a lot on theiir clothes. I hope with what I buy them I jave steered their taste towars a certain direction, and that they will like what I like.
I am not a fan of logos or the scary skull and crossbones look, and thankfullf nor are ds's!!(4 and 6). But I have really relaxed on the character clothes, and don't mind the odd spiderman or pirate, or batman. I figure that they need to develop and show some of their own individuality!!
I love gap and boden (against the majority I see) but only ever buy in the sales. Otherwise its H&m, next, and vertbaudet.

Lonelymum · 13/05/2005 16:45

Just taken a look at the tulips and nettles site. Oh no! Some of the girls stuff is quite pretty, but I think that is going over the top to dress your son in what I call knickerbockers. Yuk! And the prices! If you can afford those prices, I would have thought you could have afforded to have someone design you something nice and modern without the ubiquitous logos.
