pyjamas and horrible boys clothes

hi everybody, just thought i would have a moan at the lack of pretty boys clothes. After struggling to get my ds (13m)into babygros i thought about looking for some pyjamas however all i seemed to find was disgusting printed ones with thomas the tank engine and postman pat. There are lovely little girls stuff all pretty and pink.
However yesterday i took a trip to marks and spencers and found some gorgeous ones and he got a beautiful towelling fluffy dressing gown perfect for after swimming or before/after a bath.
I was really suprised they have some lovely things in at the minute .. not to old or to young for his age. Zara impresses me too even though their sizes are ridiculous.
Where are your favourite places to shop?

Ah, but have you looked in the sale section? And I stand by my decision. The Hero shirt is yummy, and ds is particularly yummy in it.

gggglimpopo · 13/05/2005 18:34

Anyone else here have a problem with little boys in suits?

aloha · 13/05/2005 18:38

Ooh, yes, think it is hideous personally.
Sailor suits excepted, of course

loulabelle222 · 13/05/2005 19:58

what kind of look do you go for when dressing your baby/toddler? I hate the old look for boys and girls. Boys in shirts and girls in halter neck dresses, reminds me of 17 yr olds going clubbing its disgusting

I generally dislike little boys in buttoned-up collared shirts (but will put ds in a t-shirt with shirt open over the top now and then) and (whisper it) I hate anything denim... sorry.

loulabelle222 · 13/05/2005 20:04

i hate denim too, ive just put my ds (13m) in jeans, as he has just started walking, but everytime he wears them it annoys me so much he looks so old! but he does look cute!

LOULABELLE

Please try asda george, I have 3 ds's and regularly shop for their clothes there.

1= fairly priced
2= excellent quality

Get a 2 pack of pj's for just £5 and they are quite pretty

elibelly · 13/05/2005 22:13

my ds looks very cute in jeans I have to say, but I don't get ones with worn patches, printing, extra knee reinforcements or any other bells and whistles, just plain jeans. My dd won't wear anything denim at all she hates it.

jojo28 · 13/05/2005 23:02

How can you hate denim it is a timeless classic,
"I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, simplicity - all I hope for in my clothes." Yves Saint Laurent

snafu · 14/05/2005 08:03

Jojo - I'm talking about denim on babies or toddlers. And old people.

hoxtonchick · 14/05/2005 08:10

ds refusea to wear denim - has to be soft trousers or nothing. grrrrrrr. monsoon or petit bateau trousers pass his test, i think he's just trying to stop me buying him cheap stuff from primark....

collision · 15/05/2005 16:14

Have just looked at Verybaudet in French and their clothes seem even nicer!

I like Next, Verbaudet and PreNatal and Chicco. Do not like logos at all.

Ds1 is 3 and looks great in jeans, boots and big over shirts....loved tulip and nettle but cannot afford it ATM.

DS2 is 6months and I like him in proper comfy baby clothes like all in ones which are trendy without waistbands.

Am going shopping in Florence next week and will have a look for some matching clothes for the boys when they are a bit bigger.

I also love GAP sales.

teeavee · 15/05/2005 16:43

just like to emphasise that I would never pay full prices for tulipandnettle, courgetteandpeanut (oops, no, I invented that one) or Boden clothes.
Neither would I go for the whole 'swallows and amazons' look for my boy, if only because he might become a laughing stock. I bought him a tulip and nettle shirt as a treat, for £9.60, and I can honestly say that it is the most expensive item of clothing I have ever bought for him!!
I think that boys' clothes are a bit more 'poncey' (for want of a better word) here in France - you see much less football tops and stuff with logos here in general, and I have even seen a few boys wearing breeches-style three quarter cords, which I think look lovely on under 5s...

loulabelle222 · 15/05/2005 19:48

i hate all the logos and things , i don't really like football stuff but i do have to say that for my ds first birthday he got a west ham kit with his name on and number 1 it looks so cute

Am resurrecting this thread to see what the general opinion is on boys clothes.

Where do you buy yours from?

I shop at Next, Asda, Vertbaudet, Boots and have just found a website called Tansen where I ordered a dino shirt and shorts for ds.

I just dont get excited about the horrid designs for boys these days.

Girls clothes are soooooo much nicer but I have 2 boys!

threebob · 05/05/2006 07:03

My mum gets wonderful 100% cotton pjs from tesco, asda etc.

She got him some great adjustable waist cargo pants from Gap.

She manages to get plain good quality socks from somewhere.

blueteddy · 05/05/2006 07:40

I probably posted on this thread last year, but I can't be bothered to search & see if I did!

I buy my boys clothes from Gap, vertbaudet, Debenhams (like lots of the John Rocha & Jasper conran bits), Zara (espesially in the sales!), Monsoon (again, in the sales) & occasionally Next, although I agree that they put too many logos on their clothes & I am not impressed with their latest collection.

SoupDragon · 05/05/2006 07:44

Pumpkin Patch and H&M.

FrannyandZooey · 05/05/2006 07:58

I think the situation has got even worse since last year. Now all but the very tiniest baby clothes are plastered with skull and crossbones, shitey "I am a Thug" slogans, and if you can find anything at all that isn't beige or khaki, you are doing very well indeed.

I like Vertbaudet, and occasionally a few of the Next clothes. I also look for bits on eBay.

brimfull · 05/05/2006 08:26

H&M are quite good for nice bright clothes although often there's too much orange for my liking.I also have got a few nice things in primark .

What's with the skull and cross bones,ds doesn't even know what a skull is? "oh sweetheart it's a picture of a dead man's head on your t-shirt ,isn't that lovely?" er...what's a dead man mummmy?

laughinglil · 05/05/2006 09:16

boys clothes are rubbish! for the summer i stick ds in linen shorts from next and a polo... if it was up to dh he would be head to foot in ralph lauren!

franca70 · 05/05/2006 10:08

I agree it is very difficult to find clothes for boys, I kind of refuse to dress my ds like a boyband member.
I usually try at H&M (it used to be better), Gap, Boden (sales). When in Italy I shop at Benetton, Zara, Du Pareil Au Meme and many independent shops (only sales, and close to my inlaws'there's a fantastic outlet for Petit Bateau)
I find it difficult to find clothes for my dd as well, don't you think that many look too adult-like?

DumbledoresGirl · 05/05/2006 10:15

My gripe is with the colours as well as the logos. Why must all boys' clothes be in black, navy, grey or possibly red? My boys are aged 9, 8, and 3 and the older ones love green, orange, yellow, etc just as much as the little one does.

I know girls have little choice beyond pink and mauve but at least my dd likes pink and mauve! I would like my boys to dress brightly too.

snowleopard · 05/05/2006 10:19

I go to Gap if feeling flush (or sale on) and Tesco or Sainsbury's otherwise - and have got some lovely things there including fave orange t-shirt with a kind of aboriginal-style lizard on it and gorgeous space-theme pyjamas with planets and rockets. And I recently got a lovely khaki linen summer tunic top for DS which was in the baby girls' section at tesco, but you would never know (they also had it in white).

I hate the skulls stuff and also hate boys' stuff that says "Here comes trouble" and "I'm a naughty boy" etc. Should be banned - talk about gender socialisation. (Of course the girls' equivalents say "princess" and "gorgeous" etc. [rolls eyes] )

Normsnockers · 05/05/2006 10:30

Oops ! Fashion faux-pas, ds (3) has gone off to nursery in his pirate t-shirt which has a skull and crossbones on it. Acceptable in this context or not ?
