pyjamas and horrible boys clothes

hi everybody, just thought i would have a moan at the lack of pretty boys clothes. After struggling to get my ds (13m)into babygros i thought about looking for some pyjamas however all i seemed to find was disgusting printed ones with thomas the tank engine and postman pat. There are lovely little girls stuff all pretty and pink.
However yesterday i took a trip to marks and spencers and found some gorgeous ones and he got a beautiful towelling fluffy dressing gown perfect for after swimming or before/after a bath.
I was really suprised they have some lovely things in at the minute .. not to old or to young for his age. Zara impresses me too even though their sizes are ridiculous.
Where are your favourite places to shop?

normsknockers- LOL! ds2 went to nursery wearing apirate t-shirt yesterday, i think they can be cute. his is a cute stripy one with a rabbit skull and crossbones from no added sugar and he also has one from h&m, no faux pas imo!

i have 2 ds, 8 and 4 and buy most of their clothes from h&m, boden, zara, quiksliver for ds1, debenhams, house of fraser and for ds2 monsoon, because i love the applique t-shirts and find it difficult to find 'young' clothing for him as he wears and age 5-6.

but must say in defence of girly clothing i love the pink and sparkly look on my dd (7 weeks) and hope that when she is older she will stick with girly looking clothes rather than tomboyish, but that probably is because i had two ds first.

Pinotmum · 05/05/2006 10:51

My ds is wearing a T shirt saying Too Much Too Young on it today and we've all been singing the song (Specials I think) He's also wearing denim shorts but I think he looks cool! Wink

franca70 · 05/05/2006 11:12

so is there anyone who think that many clothes on the high street for little girls are a bit too much... (too much pink, too much logos, too much grown up)???

geekgrrl · 05/05/2006 11:13

I love Gymboree www.gymboree.com - am still using the clothes I bought in a UK shop (bought loads in bigger sizes when I heard that they were closing it) but I hear the website is good to order from and the lower US prices make up for the delivery cost?
They do really lovely boys' clothes. And gorgeous stuff for girls of course. The quality is second to none.

snowleopard · 05/05/2006 11:42

Cute pirate skull & crossbones isn't so bad... it's all that black and grey, skulls, weapons and gothic writing that does my head in.

I think clothes are so polarised now - why aren't there more cool unisex ones? Having had a boy and expecting clothes shopping to be less easy, I actually think it would be worse for a girl - the girls' stuff is so ubiquitously samey. If I have a girl I'm sure I'll check out the boys' ranges for her too to get some more interesting colours.

[ahem]
I have just read this thread in its entirity and visited a couple of the sites mentioned - had no idea that places like \link{http://www.tulipandnettle.co.uk/live/\Tulip and Nettle} existed!
I think if I'd seen kids in clothes like that I'd have assumed they were home sewn (in a good way you understand).
And surely \link{https://secure.bises.org/prideandjoyonline/acatalog/index.html\Pride and Joy} is the ultimate in swallows-and-amazons-wear. In fact, their ballet cardigans look just like the one my grandmother knitted for me...
I'm sensing a recurring theme of the commercialisation of home clothesmaking and can't decide whether it's a good thing or a bad thing.
Anyone know what happened to Clothkits?

JackieNo · 05/05/2006 11:58

MrsB - the Tulip and Nettle stuff is cute (some a bit too cute, though), and I'm amazed that the prices aren't too extortionate. Like the girls' fleeces with ribbons etc. One to bookmark.

franca70 · 05/05/2006 12:05

yes, I always buy boys' clothes for my dd, (don't really like girls denim with all those embroided flowers) and when ds was three months I bought him a stripy orange/green cardigan. he kept being mistaken for a girl...
I haven't really given much thought about the comercialisation of home clothing, but I feel that sometimes it's nice for the kids to wear something made with natural products, like wool...

snowleopard · 05/05/2006 13:02

Pinotmum where did you get the "Too much too young?" t-shirt? (I do like a nice slogan)

Pinotmum · 05/05/2006 14:21

Snowleopard, I got it from TK Maxx. It's a French Connection T Shirt but hasn't got the FCUK logo on it as THAT IS inappropriate on a little boy I feel Shock Grin

alexsmum · 05/05/2006 14:46

i always come on these threads and rant about the state of boys clothes! one of my pet gripes!
i find john lewis very good-nice colours and styles.not much in the way of logo stuff.
next if you really hunt around can be ok.i bought ds1 a lovely long sleeve stripy top the other week in blues/greens and white.very fresh looking.
now ds1 is getting older, it is slightly harder and he likes his spiderman t-shirt etc.
the tulip and nettle stuff, while i think it's nice-i know that if he were to wear that kind of stuff he would get teased by his friends.
shoes are my nightmare.ds although he's only 6, wears a 2and a half shoe and it's really hard to buy attractive shoes.there are no doodles in that size, alll the trainers look like football boots in silver and gold, and the sandals all look a bit..plastic.

blueteddy · 05/05/2006 14:46

For the french connection kids clothes, they have a UKFC logo rather than a FCUK one!

compo · 05/05/2006 14:47

Boots has some nice clourful summer stuff at the mo and also has a sale going on

bran · 05/05/2006 15:50

There are some really lovely links on here, thanks. gggg and teevee can I ask how the dpam stuff sizes up as it doesn't give the child's hight in the size just the age? I find that French clothes tend to be a bit smaller than UK.

I find it quite difficult to get clothes for ds as the sludgey colours that suit pale English skin so well look horrible on him. When we go to visit my parents in Dublin I always go to Dunnes Stores and see what they have in. I find it's about the same price and quality (or slightly better quality) as George at Asda but much more imaginative design and colours. Otherwise, Boots often have some lovely stuff and Vertbaudet have great colours but I find the quality quite variable.

DS isn't even 2 yet but he's been showing a marked preference for character clothes for ages now ("Want Bob da buida, want Bob da buida" at increasing volumes), so I suspect that I only have another year or so of choosing his clothes for him. I don't buy character clothing for him, except for pajamas, but he gets things as presents and once he's seen it he wants to wear it. He'll even drag things back out of the laundry basket if he doesn't like what I've picked out for him.

alligator · 05/05/2006 15:58

I loves Dunnes boys stuff too Bran. Dd has loads from there. Grin My mum even buy it for her cos its so nice and colourful. thay had some gorgeous orange stuff last year.

JanH · 05/05/2006 16:20

For nice plain bright clothes for boys and girls \link{http://www.jako-o.com/produkt/en/kataloge.mb1?mb_f020_id=qCIkDmB3jvQDzzzQW6&fag=eu&lang=en&set=2&k_id=37477&mb_v301_ch=e5e88\Jako-o} is a good place (don't know if it's been linked already) - I have not used it, because my kids are too old, but I know some people on MN have and like it.

bran · 05/05/2006 16:39

I know Aligator the colours are great aren't they? And they wash so well too, ds is growing out of several pairs of trousers that bought last September and they look much the same as they did when I bought them even though they've been washed about once a week since then.

JanH, that website has lovely stuff, I've been sniggering a bit at some of their direct translations from German though, it reminds me of the Tchibo site. Smile

JanH · 05/05/2006 16:47

Me too, bran - eg "out of the bed and into the cuddle coat" Grin

Really goos ftuff though - I just found \link{http://www.jako-o.com/produkt/en/produkte.mb1?mb_f020_id=qCIkDmB3jvQDzzzQW6&fag=eu&lang=en&set=2&k_id=37477&s_id=5000290&g_id=5008140&mb_v301_ch=929a9\these} there, under "clothes doctor" - patterned iron-on patches to cover up little holes - great idea!

JanH · 05/05/2006 16:47

goos ftuff self-explanatory I hope!

I was recommended a website called Tansen which was great!

I ordered the dino shorts and shirt for ds (4) and he loves it. Not cheap but a bit different.

i also rang them and ranted that they had sent me a catalogue but without boys clothes in it!! I told them the clothes were nice but they should do more boy stuff without nasty logos as there are so many mums who want nice clothes for boys. She said that their designers had daughters not sons and I told her that was no excuse!! Shock

We want colours and not navy and red all the time. She promised to pass the message on to them....so we shall see.

Now I might ring Next!!

laughinglil · 06/05/2006 00:26

i hate to dress my ds like he is 18 going out clubbing it just looks so wrong doesn't it? tbh I think I do dress my ds quite babyish for two but why not he always looks lovely (in my opinion!) I love the french look especially for the summer.

Pinotmum · 06/05/2006 09:22

Collision, that site's really great. Ds has alot of stuff at the moment but I marked it for future reference Wink

shazronnie · 06/05/2006 12:34

My DS age 2 loves his chav trainers, scruffy jeans, and bob the builder t shirts.

Most of this week he has been coated in a layer of sandpit and ice lolly, so i don't think it is worth me worrying about smatening him up!

(Agree with general dislike of camoflage, beige, I am naughty)

collision · 06/05/2006 22:48

Bought the boys 2 lovely outfits today from Okaidi in Mothercare.

Beige linen shorts with linen stripey shirts. Am going to wait and see if Monsoon put their waistcoats in the sale and then they will look perfect for BIL's wedding.
