I'm sitting here fuming for the umpteenth time waiting for a delivery that's already over 1.5h late. At least this time they rang me which is a first, but said they'd be here by now.

I use them because they're cheap. I always spend twice as much if I use Ocado. How does Sainsburys compare?

Tesco are crap.
Sainsbury's are over priced.
Ocaod is the best - never late, will call you if early, and they price match so is no more expensive than anywhere else ime.

PolkSaladLucie · 26/05/2009 12:37

Not used Sainsbury's but we get majority of our shopping from Asda online, and then buy fresh fruit and veg from local farm shop...

They are very good and have never been late...

Tillyscoutsmum · 26/05/2009 12:39

I use Sainsbury and they have been late once in the last year or so. They were 3 minutes late and I got a £10 voucher off

bigchris · 26/05/2009 12:41

sainsburys are good, one hour delivery slot is what tempted me. I don't find them much more expensive than tesco tbh

slightlyonedgemum · 26/05/2009 12:42

Sainsburys are great in my area. Not as cheap as Tesco (but they often don't put their cheap stuff online). They do however always arrive on time, and have twice (I've only used them 5 times) been early. Once they were 10 mins early and waited outside my house til I got home, once they called and said was it ok if they were an hour early. If they're more than an hour late you get money off vouchers. Sadly this has never happened!

RubberDuck · 26/05/2009 12:43

I like Sainsburys, but I think it depends on the area as to which is the best. Tesco in my local area is completely crap (but also within walking distance, so I get my main shop online with Sainsburys then top up later in the week by walking to Tesco!).

Like Tillyscoutsmum said, you get a £10 voucher if they're even a fraction late (in fact, more often than not I get a phone call saying they're running early, is that okay!)

I did a price up a couple of times and haven't noticed a huge amount of difference between Sainsbury and Tesco for the things I buy (individual items vary, of course, but the overall shop is about the same). The own label Sainsbury stuff is generally good too.

franch · 26/05/2009 12:44

FBG - maybe it's because I get tempted by more stuff on Ocado but my order total is always a LOT more when I shop with them. Also they don't sell fruit and veg in the quantities you need - e.g. you can't just buy one carrot, you have to buy a whole bag, which ups the price.

Used Asda once PSL - their range was very limited - admittedly a long time ago - couldn't find anything I wanted.

Think I will try Sainsburys next time. Thanks tilly & chris

I bought enough food to feed five for a week and spent about £90 at Ocado.

franch · 26/05/2009 12:49

You're a cleverer shopper than me FBG

FabulousBakerGirl · 26/05/2009 12:57

Meal plan.

That's all there is to it.

RubberDuck · 26/05/2009 12:57

Yeah, I tried Ocado once, and it cost me a huge amount more and I put it down to the bags of veg rather than loose veg. Was shocked what a difference it made.

RubberDuck · 26/05/2009 12:57

(and I do meal plan!)

franch · 26/05/2009 12:58

Oh yeah I always do that FBG. But RubberDuck's said it

I used sainsburys once and they were beyond shite. Terrible. They promised a £10 voucher, but I never got it. Never again.

I use ocado for all fresh food things and decent offers, and asda for all branded stuff, washing powders, loo paper etc.

Asda is MUCH cheaper for the branded things, but I don't really rate their fresh stuff (often v close to sell by date etc).

doggiesayswoof · 26/05/2009 13:01

Sainsbury's are good in my area - since I started using them about a year ago they have late once by about 5 mins and I got a £10 voucher.

I don't find them more expensive than tesco for everyday stuff.

MiniMarmite · 26/05/2009 13:05

Ocado have got 15% off all orders over £75 delivered before the end of this week :-)

Sallypuss · 26/05/2009 13:18

Huge fan of Ocado here. As other posters have said, they price match to Tesco and they usually run early (delivery in half hour slots) they also have really long use by dates (this was the thing that made me shift from Tesco as you had to use everything by the next day (what a waste) or make the delivery guy wait while you check all the dates). They very rarely have anything missing from their orders either (Tesco would always have a load of things missing meaning I'd have to go to the supermarket anyway). Well worth any perceived extra cost.

ohdearwhatamess · 26/05/2009 13:30

Ocado are almost always late coming to me, but they're still streets ahead of the rest.

JimmyMcNulty · 26/05/2009 13:52

I tried Sainsbury's a while back and was fairly unimpressed, mostly because of their daft substitutions. I think the best one was when I ordered a tin of coconut milk and they gave me.... a coconut.

I use Ocado and they are fab but I know what you mean about spending more, despite price matching. I don't get my veg from them now and that's made a big difference.

oysterpots · 26/05/2009 14:59

You can edit your substitutions Jimmy. I agree though - quite annoying!

I use Sainsbury's and am happy with them. They have been late a couple of times and I was given a £10 voucher immediately.

I think it may depend on the store you get your order from - any service is only ever going to be as good as the people that provide it

MrsBish · 26/05/2009 15:04

I love Sainsburys. For a start, if they're late then you get a 10 pound voucher. I think the service depends from store to store though.
Would post more, but the baby is whinging......

FabulousBakerGirl · 26/05/2009 16:00

I don't really see you can have too much veg really. You might only want one carrot (to feed how many?) but a bag will do you a few meals.
