Hillarys Blinds - are they worth the money?

Had a lady from Hillarys blinds round yesterday to quote for some pleated blinds to go in our bay windows as they're south facing. First she changed the appointment from 9am to 3pm. She finally arrived at 3.45 without a call to say she was running late. So so far I'm not hugely impressed with the service!

She has quoted £314 to do just the downstairs one, £560 to do our bedroom too. They have a half price sale on atm so I thought that wasn't too bad until I rang to confirm that the price would be half of that. But it won't be! They are the sale prices!

This seems a lot of money to me. Has anyone used Hillarys blinds and how did you find them? Alternatively has anybody had blinds made by a different (cheaper) company?

Hello, this thread is a little old and some of the links may be out of date. There was lots of discussion around the cost of Hillarys Blinds and most users found their prices a little high. As alternatives, users recommended John Lewis and Make My Blinds. If you are still interested in Hillarys Blinds you can check them out here. MNHQ.

If they are late with appointment they give 10% extra discount

That was they gave us anyway

UniversallyUnchallenged · 03/06/2017 22:46

No, my experience was they are poor quality (e.g. Bathroom blind started to rust within the first year), more expensive than average.

Wouldn't recommend them

I definitely wouldn't recommend using this company. I have never experienced such poor customer service! I simply wanted to order a blackout blind for my 14 month year old as it's much lighter much earlier these days and he's been waking up earlier, but it has been over two months since I first talked to Hillarys and they have still failed to get a blind ordered, due to a series of confusions surrounding fittings, lost quotes, a lack of recording and a lack of communication between their staff. I have now chosen to go with a local blind company: the blinds are twice as expensive but it is worth it for lack of stress!

I would most certainly not recommend using this company to anyone, as they have had the most appalling and disorganised customer service I have ever experienced. I wanted to order a blackout blind for my 1 year old's bedroom - it has been over two months since I first contacted Hillarys and nothing has been sorted, due to a ridiculous number of confusions with appointments, lack of record keeping, differences between the website and reality and crossed wires between their staff. I have decided to go with a local blind company, even though the blinds are twice as expensive.

Spent £1000 approx. on 11 blinds that were fitted in November 1975. In December 1976 noticed one blind was starting to fray. Contacted their local fitter and he took it up with Hillarys but he did not get anywhere with them. We sent a message on facebook to enquire if their CEO was still John Risman and they confirmed he was and asked what our problem was. When we informed them they were not interested because it was out of 1 year warranty so we sent a letter to John Risman-he has not had courtesy to even acknowledge our letter. Looks like we will have to sue them in Dartford County Court

jean1945 · 14/07/2017 14:36

not sure what happened there! The dates were November 2015 for fitting and problem noticed December 2016-no idea where the 1975/1976 dates came from. The letter ignored by John Risman was sent recorded delivery and signed for on 10th July 2017 by someone named Hancock.

We had Hillarys for our horizontal wooden slat blinds for the front of the house. Satisfied (just about) with the quality. For our kitchen, I ordered the exact same style from direct blinds, online. So happy with these - far better than Hillarys and a third of the price for the same window. Will always go with directblinds in the future.

At this point in the transaction I would never think of using Hillary's again. After paying more than $1,000 in FULL at the time of measuring which was in December I am awaiting the installation of the shutters and blind I ordered. They called on the off-chance that I might be available to have them fitted a couple of days early but unfortunately I was out visiting my 91 year old mother in hospital. Today (March 5th) is the original date that was set for installation and evidently, according to their call centre I was booked for between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. I have now waited in all day and have called the installer 4 times. He does not answer his phone nor does he respond to his messages. I am angry that I was stupid enough to make payment in full when the set date for installation was 3 months away, and now on the day that installation was due it is 9:00 p.m. and I still have not heard a word from anyone. When will I eventually get my shutters and blind?? Will I eventually get my blinds or should I go to a consumer group immediately? I am wondering if I could have been the victim of a fraudulent transaction. I shall write again if and when I get my shutters and blind to follow up on this.

ADVICE PLEASE
i purchased two sets of curtains from them, one pair are to short. My problems is that they all have a seam down the middle of them, like they didn't have the right width material. They are for a standard front window. Paid £1000 for these and im not impressed. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT IS DONE, OR AM I GETTING RIPPED OFF.
Any help Appreciated

SubtitlesOn · 18/07/2018 16:12

This is a very old thread but IMHO you are being ripped off

Not up to the standard of workmanship that you expected to get from them

You are rejecting them

Contact your credit card company too

Thank you so much for your response. That is what I needed to hear, thought it was wrong.
I am dealing with this immediately

Thanks

One of the worst product and customer service experiences we have ever had.

From being missold products, to extremely shoddy installation causing damage to our property, to wrong measurements which has now happened again, to the time it's taken (over one year) and still not sorted, plus the frustratingly slow communication and poor customer service, the entire experience with Hilary's has been one of the worst customer experiences and dealings we have had.

Smcv · 27/09/2023 22:10

Have used Hilary's on 3 separate occasions. Fantastic service and quality. Had 3 different types of blinds made. You have to talk them down on the original price they give you. Will be using them again in the future.
