Has anyone seen old-fashioned style travel cots recently?

They sort of fold in a W shape making a shape like a cot end rather than a box shape like the now traditional travel cots

TIA

I have one that folds like a W its much bigger than modern travel cots

Its much more like a traditional cot when its up .. has mesh sides so you couldnt use it as a playpen...

Does this sound like the kinda thing you mean

spicemonster · 02/05/2009 18:39

I don't know what you mean! Mine has a sort of button thing that you yank up in the middle and it's nearly 10 years old!

frasersmummy · 02/05/2009 18:40

so does mine spice monster.. consider ds is now 4 and it was second hand i reckon mine is probs much the same age..

KatyMac · 02/05/2009 18:42

Yep that's it Frasermummy

They are fab for putting up quickly & quietly (for when another one falls asleep)

Hang on if it has a button it will fold into a box (like an after eight box)

I'm after one that folds into the cot end just a bit thicker iyswim

Oh yes, mine has mesh sides too. Is that what you mean katymac? If my DS is happy in his readybed when we go on hols in a few weeks then would be happy to sell it.

I still want to know what you mean by cot end vs box shape

CarGirl · 02/05/2009 18:46

Only have seen them for sale 2nd hand and not for ages. There are some of the modern ones that are much more rectangular though - much longer and def narrower but still the box fold IYSWIM

KatyMac · 02/05/2009 18:49

The box ones

The sides fold into 2 & the four corners meet in the middle. The middle of the base rises in an umbrella movement

The W ones

the 2 long sides fold in 2 and the 2 short ends meet each other (with out folding). The mattress just folds in half

I have one in my roof space, it's 11 years old so I'd say you'd be hard pushed to find one until someone had a clear out to a charity shop.

CarGirl · 02/05/2009 18:53

I think they'd be too big to courier 2nd hand otherwise I'd keep my eyes peeled at the car boot sales but I think they are too big to post.

KatyMac · 02/05/2009 18:59

What a shame - I could do with 3 or 4

KatyMac · 02/05/2009 19:50

Nice but too bulky to fold out while 4 children are asleep in the same room

I have an odd life

OP posts:
CarGirl · 02/05/2009 19:53

What about the little sleeping mats they use in large day nurseries?

KatyMac · 02/05/2009 19:55

Too young - they are generally under 2 & they would go round poking each other to wake them up

CarGirl · 02/05/2009 19:59

you'll just have to carry on with the hideous box ones then!

thisisyesterday · 02/05/2009 20:01

i know the oens you mean Katymac, my mum had one for us.
I think she's prob got rid of it now, but i'll ask her tomorrow when I see her (she does have a LOT of crap in her attic lol)

KatyMac · 02/05/2009 20:08

It isn't the hideousness of them it's the noise disruption as they are set up - I can only fit 4 up all the time
