Flyme thing with earache is that in children it is very common. Calpos will ease the pain but if the ear is infected it will need antibiotics to clear it. If the ear is bright red and hot to touch it doesn't mean it's infected. If after 24 hours still the same (can often have nasty smell too) then I would take to doctors. Drum can perforate from an infection (again sounds terrible but very common, normally when it does the pain stops). It then is usually enough and infection stops.

Bad breath can be as resutlts of toinsils/ads in overdrive trying to fight off all the bugs/and or infection. Sometimes can be just result of child sleeping with their mouth open and dribbling!

I would DEFO go the GP though. If they take one look and say it's not infected then fab, they won't mind!

Nicola glad you like the luna mix (how long you keeping it and are you defo selling zapp now??)

Just had uncomfortable hour, lady who does my nails shows me a pic of her new dog and it's a staffy. No prob, it's for her family not mine, but she lives near me and we see her out walking the (other) dog all the time and sometimes come over to say hello. I say we wouldn't do that now and all hell breaks loose. I KNOW how clever and intelligent they are and it's how they are trained but I still don't want my daughter near a dog that has been bred to kill things!!

carrielou2007 · 06/03/2009 11:26

Ooh another zapp/zia debate - I've had them both too, I hated both but I think it was as dd was only 7/8 months. Now as a boisterous toddler, I would have (I am after one!!) a zapp again.

I found the zia had all the things that were missing on the zapp but was so cheapy feeling and quality very lacking.

Much prefer maclaren quest/poss triumph (due to so much praise from Nicola) that I now just have 3 maclarens!!!

pebbles79 · 06/03/2009 11:28

It must be something in the air, I've just had my DS2 at the GP and he's got tonsilitis! He's decided he doesn't like the antibiotic though and refusing to take it. I've put it into a glass of juice but I think he's sussed it.

lillypie · 06/03/2009 11:32

I didn't like zapp either DD was too small for the seat and slumped. Also I use public transport a lot and it's impossible to fold whilst holding a baby.

But I am having strange zapp cravings now that DD is 2

carrie I feel exactly the same way about dogs and I am a dog lover but my baby is too precious to me to take a risk.

Glad you love the new pram nicola

BexieID · 06/03/2009 11:42

I would try one of those 4 wheeled Zapps.

OP posts:
pebbles79 · 06/03/2009 11:46

I've had the Babywelt Moon Kiss which looks the exact same as the 4 wheeled Zia and it was a lovely little pushchair. I managed to hang shopping from the handles without it tipping and although not a one hand fold, could still do it with a baby in my arms. I'm actually wondering why I got rid of it now!

carrielou2007 · 06/03/2009 11:47

A 4 wheeled one?? Now you're talking!!

Hi Lillypie same here, I love dogs and want to get one when dd is at school. Walk her to school with dog, go to work, walk dog over the CM after work to collect her and talk about her day etc but I would carefully decide which breed that's all I was saying to her and she pretty much flipped. My nails look rubbish!!

lillypie · 06/03/2009 11:53

lol

nicolamumof3 · 06/03/2009 12:11

my parents have had two staffs they are lovely dogs you need to know about them, what their breeding is like they need to be well trained etc. the first staff they had adored tom and i would have trusted him and did completely with tom he was so doting over him. their younger staff is much more boisterous as a puppy i wouldn't leave her alone with the little ones now. you just need to be sensible i think its very important for children to be brought up around animals and learn to respect them. so many are mistreated.

carrielou2007 · 06/03/2009 12:37

That's sort of what I was trying to say to her. My CM got a small dog last year and I did have reservations, but has been good for dd to learn about animals, how to behave and treat them, to look after them etc (without me having to actually walk or feed it!!)

Nail tec just flipped, started saying all sorts and I was like you know what, that's all fine. If we see you walking her we won't stop to say hi if you don't like or agree with that then fine I'm not asking you to just letting you know.

She can get whichever type of dog she wants I just don't want dd to go near!

Sawyer64 · 06/03/2009 12:50

Can any of you knowledgeable ladies help me?

I am going away on holiday to Malta in June, and would like to take a buggy with me,as DD2 is 2 and will not stand up to all the walking we will be doing.

I have a Maclaren Techno at the moment, but it is quite heavy.i was wondering about getting a cheap (E bay) Umbrella fold buggy, but alot of them come without a hood.I've had a look at my mac,and the hood looks like it might clip off,but with gentle pushing and pulling it didn't.

Do they come off? is there a knack? if I could get it off I could hopefully clip it to a cheap lighter buggy maybe.

BexieID · 06/03/2009 12:53

The PIL have a collie. She does put up with Tom, lol. He likes to try and climb on her, she loves his bubble lawn mower. He likes feeding her and has helped himself to dog biscuits in the past to give her . Atm, he likes trying to get her to lick his face.

nicolamumof3 · 06/03/2009 12:55

take your techno the tilting hood if it has one will be great and uv visor as well.

im so glad i recently took a second buggy for my 3yr old on holiday (i also have a younger ds who went in the maclaren) as we really did need a buggy for as did alot of walking.

the cheapy buggies are all pants i would say!

apart from obaby. i bought one for £60 and was sooooo impressed. but personally iwould just take your techno.

sweetkitty · 06/03/2009 13:04

Oh dear I feel a bit now you have all slated the Zapp and Zia.

I love the sturdy chunkiness of the Sport in single mode so going to a flimsy buggy would be difficult.

I have a Maclaren Techno XT which has been used for both DD1 and 2 and has been a great pram but is looking a bit past it now and the brakes are rusting.

nicolamumof3 · 06/03/2009 13:06

i haven't slated it i absolutely love my zapp for what it is! but they do not cope at all on uneven bumpy ground, and can't hold any shopping. so as an only second buggy i'd say.

i have no experience of zia so don't know. i just don't really like 'copycat' buggies i like to get the original iykwim hence why i love maclarens, the original and the best! and why i wanted a zapp over a zia.

FlyMeToDunoon · 06/03/2009 13:12

Carrielou DD has not got earache atm. She is prone to that but prob atm is chesty cough and temp spikes. She has had a cough on and off [mostly on] since the snow [1 month-thank you Nicola] She says she is getting headaches.
I think she has caught another cold big and it is joining onto the end of the last one.
She is fine in herself today. A bit under the weather yesterday and had calpol/nurofen.
I am going to just keep an eye on her.

I encourage my DDs to socialise with dogs but to always ask the owner if the dog is friendly first. I would be very wary of them approaching a Staffie or that type of dog tbh.

Nicola like the Luna. The bumper bar looks very close to the seat-is it?
One advantage of not leaving house today-[ok we might go and collect Dd1 from school just to get some air] is that I will be in to get Volo.

Sawyer64-good year that! You can get hood and raincover sets from BabiesRus for £14.99

carrielou2007 · 06/03/2009 13:19

Flyme other than pain relief there's not a lot more you can do if your dd does not have an infection.

Sawyer I have a maclaren grey volo hood that's no use to me if you want it for price of postage??

I do think it is important for dd to learn how to behave around dogs. However it doesn't bother me if a staffie owner takes offence that I do not yet want my 2 year old near their dog!

nicolamumof3 · 06/03/2009 13:20

will see how he fist in with the bumper bar on tbh not a fan of bumper bars for his age but may need it as has freedom harness.

sweetkitty · 06/03/2009 13:21

thanks nicolamumof3 I kind of keep coming back to a Maclaren too, you really cannot beat them, I know the Maclarens faults as well IYSWIM.

mumofdjandbabies · 06/03/2009 13:25

Babywelt Moon Kiss ? whats this one link perlease

nicolamumof3 · 06/03/2009 13:27

get a nice new maclaren then sweetkitty! or buy mine!!

pebbles79 · 06/03/2009 13:28

Here. I had to import from Germany but shipping only worked out at around £9 which was brilliant!

FlyMeToDunoon · 06/03/2009 13:33

Carrielou thank you for your free consultation If Sawyer doesn't want you volo hood can I have it. I bought the whole shebang Acessory pack-hood, raincover, liner and did it have anything else? Can't remember but that was £23 and the volo I am getting is supposed to be cheap holiday buggy.

pebbles79 · 06/03/2009 13:36

Anyone had an ebay/paypal discount code recently? Was just thinking it's been a while since I last had one and it could be just the thing to convince me to buy a Skate, lol!

mumofdjandbabies · 06/03/2009 13:36

ooh pebbles nice! does it recline? fold up small? how much does it work out as all in
nice looker!
