I want a dress for my 8yr old DD.
I hate the 'Bride of Christ' look on so many websites or worse, the 'tarty' look.
I want some pretty, but understated and not too expensive!
Any suggestions please?

I like this BHS one - not sure if the gold belt would be OK, presumably you could take that off? The polyester might or might not feel OK.

choosyfloosy · 15/02/2009 17:35

I rather like this La Redoute one but it might be too 'little girl' for her or for the occasion? Goes up to 1 metre 50, is that any good?

PlumBumMum · 15/02/2009 17:38

Oh I got my dds a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately it was expensive my mil was buying but I seen loads of beautiful onees online that weren't that expensive

I'll find the links

choosyfloosy · 15/02/2009 17:40

an ebay one - debenhams - like it very much but a lot more formal, and it says 10 years? I guess you could get it altered if it's what you like?

PlumBumMum · 15/02/2009 17:40

These ones are inexpensive

I'm with you I was disgusted when I looked up on shop near where I live and it said their dresses were the same as their adult line, I don't want myy dd to look like a bride yet

PortAndLemon · 15/02/2009 17:52

are some nice dresses here but they do tend towards the expensive.

PlumBumMum · 15/02/2009 17:54

This was the site I really liked and they are not that expensive

www.richandrare.com/

PortAndLemon · 15/02/2009 17:55

this and this from Monsoon are nice.

PlumBumMum · 15/02/2009 17:59

The rich and rare site I liked the belinda or Jackie
I'm abit sorry now, when I think of how much my mil paid
But dd loved it, the 2 nannies were crying so that was her dress
Have you bought her to try any on, there were some dresses that didn't suit my dd, mostly ones with slimmer straps bit too grown up for my liking

PlumBumMum · 15/02/2009 17:59

*brought

PlumBumMum · 15/02/2009 19:53

Unfitmother have you had a look yet what do you think?

PlumBumMum · 16/02/2009 10:18

I'm really nosey was wondering if you seen any you liked?

unfitmother · 16/02/2009 17:25

Hi, I'm only just in from work, thanks for all the replies.
I like the Monsoon dresses but they don't have dd's size. The richandrare site looked good but they all seemed to be full length and I don't want that. The firstcommunionwear.com looks great.
Just realised I haven't looked at all your suggestions yet.

Oh seen some ballerina length, can't think what site, some were abit ott though

Have you tried some on her incase they don't suit

unfitmother · 16/02/2009 19:17

No, I haven't done anything yet. I've just started to think about it, it's in May.

OP posts:
PlumBumMum · 16/02/2009 19:46

My dds is in May, I've only got mine because mil has no daughters and dd is her first gd so she was so excited we went out a couple of weeks ago

Rhubarb · 16/02/2009 19:48

I got mine from Ebay. I just looked for a white dress and managed to find a really pretty one. Not an official "communion" dress but far prettier I thought.

So I recommend ebay.

Yes I'm hoping dd2 will suit the same style

It is beautiful, but can't believe it was marked up by that amount , more as I'm sure little angels are making profit too
