Anyone else with warm memories of this French children's TV serial might like to know it's on DVD now, just been rereleased.
Enid · 04/03/2003 12:50
I think I could only watch it if it was immediately followed by White Horses.
Tinker · 04/03/2003 13:40
'Belle, Belle!' cried plaintively!!!
'Come white horses de de dee de de, do do do do do do do , fly away'
Remember the Flashing Blade - 'You've got to fight for what you want, and all that you believe'
Marina · 04/03/2003 13:41
Little boy in the mountains, Jaybee, with his trusty Pyrenean Mountain dog sidekick. They have adventures while his family chunter about him running wild. Lovely music and photography, and shown at the same time as White Horses, which is why Enid (and I, and others?) could do with a nostalgic double-bill.
But it's OLD - sixties I think. And badly dubbed!
Jaybee · 04/03/2003 13:45
No - I draw a blank on that one - remember White Horses though.
janh · 04/03/2003 13:46
Oh - sorry - there was a cartoon later, of B & S I mean, I must be thinking of that; Dogtanian was 80s???
Marina · 04/03/2003 13:50
I think White Horses has been repeated far more often than B & S.
Janh, now that's one I don't recall. Musketeers impersonated by dogs?

This site is absolutely hilarious and a treasure trove of all things tv nostalgia related.
Teddy Edward anyone?
janh · 04/03/2003 17:56
Champion the Wonder Horse??? He was on in the 50s! I know for a fact that Tinker wasn't even born until the mid-60s (so she says but I think it was the 70s really) so did they make more or just show the old ones again? (The tune used to be played regularly on Children's Favourites with Uncle Mac on the radio as well, hands up if you remember THAT!)
Marina, DS1 used to watch Dogtanian, probably when he was 6-7ish so that would have been c 1995, you probably didn't watch much kids' TV then! It was wonderful, it was really the proper story and most of the characters were dogs (it was a cartoon you understand) but the glamorous female was a cat and one of the villains was a fox or something - haven't seen the film recently and never read the book so can't remember any of the characters' names.
Just googled - www.80snostalgia.com/classictv/dogtanian/
it was called Dogtanian and the 3 Muskehounds, I forgot that bit, and it was from the 80s but not when I saw it...I'm off to look at this website now!
bayleaf · 04/03/2003 21:23

Min · 05/03/2003 11:59
Belle & Sebastien was one of my favourites - thanks for that tip, Marina, I will certainly be searching out the DVD! Also have happy memories of White Horses!
Furball · 05/03/2003 13:01
What about Hectors House? Its been on an advert for something lately. Also used to like Mary, Mungo and Midge and Crystal Tips and Alistair (what an ace hairstyle she had!!) Although I think these were a few years later.
I love going back and rembering things like that and am the same with music. I go absoulutely crazy when I hear Chirpy, Chirpy Cheap Cheap!
Check out This little gem
elliott · 05/03/2003 13:14
furball, yes! You're obviously my vintage!
I remember Belle and Sebastian very vaguely (actually I think I had a book?) but not White Horses - was that earlier? (I'm 36 by the way).
Other things - Banana Splits, something called Double Decker I think? - Saturday mornings in the holidays anyway!!
and the Herbs!!
NQWWW · 05/03/2003 14:00
Come on board, come on board, come on board with the double deckers....
My ex-bf went to university with Tiger from the DDs. Is that a claim to fame?
NQWWW · 05/03/2003 14:04
And White Horses:
"On white horses let me fly away, to the land of dreams so far away, let me fly......to the sky..... where the clouds are made of candy floss, and the something something, come and something something, we'll race to meet the stars....."
Ohmigod.
Furball · 05/03/2003 14:44
If you go to the link on my previous post and look through the 'W's you can listen to the White horse theme.
'On white horses snowy white horses let me ride away. Where the clouds are made of candy floss la te da la la'
(I'm also 36 - September)
Furball · 05/03/2003 14:46
Sorry NQWWW, didn't realise you'd also sung the song. Maybe we could do a duet?
