Before I spend ££££ on one, please tell me if they are shite or not. I only tend to see people posting about the positives of them but I want to hear what is negative.

the only thing about them is i think they look so 'basic' shoot me down if im wrong, what are the carrycots like for newborns? i just mean basic in that they don't seem v.luxourious or well padded etc? this was also my worry before i bought a p&t which is why i got the sleeping bag and now have a buggy snuggle. PG you sound like me, i am a clean freak anything i sell is completely stripped down and washed and scrubbed i also use seat liners on pushchairs so they stay clean. im sure i've got ocd!!

I don't think many 3 wheelers are particularly padded, the only "padded" pushchair/pram I have had seems to be the M&P Pliko. Even the Bugaboo is just canvas fabric, not much padding going on in there! It is more to do with the quality of it and the frame being aluminium which makes it more expensive. I had it next to the P&T and (sorry, I know you love yours!) but it looked such better quality BUT it is double the price so I suppose that should be expected.

The buggysnuggles are big! I love mind so cuddly and cosy luka cuddles right into his. definitely worth the money, i got mine in the sale although it was still £39 i prefer it to the p&t sleeping bag.

no worries pg we all need/want different things i just prefer mine to a side by side for getting around shops im more often in shops then walking offroad tbh!! plus my ds3 is now 14m so its ideal for him in either seat. And handy now that ds2 is at nursery i don't have to push around a double but can easily click on the seat when its time to go get him etc. How they fold doesn't matter to me as i only walk.

LackaDAISYcal · 24/09/2008 23:21

have you considered one of these? PGNo3?

I think I'm rapidly going off the Phil and Teds which will realistically only be used for the school run, getting about locally and occasionally around the shops. The Scot in me and Yorkshireman in DH like the price of this one too.....means I can get a yummy changing bag as well

onelittlelion · 24/09/2008 23:41

I love my sinlge MB and found the P&t too front weighted and not as nice to push but that's as a single. The dash ahs been recalled there is a scary video on you tube where the handle kinda falls off

If you don't mind second hand the MB's hold their value really well so if you wanted to sell you'd prob get most of your money back. I think the double is not much wider than the single?!

I do like The Easywalker you linked to . My friend really rated the ABC pushchairs too and I like the look of the babyjoggers?

nicolamumof3 · 25/09/2008 06:40

lackadaisy that is a fab price!! Worth considering as if you didn't like it you would be able to get your money get by selling it lol!!

nicolamumof3 · 25/09/2008 06:42

At the end of the day as with all pushchairs it depends what you will be using it for, if in the car alot the weight and how it folds is a consideration if you are walking lots, does it fit in your front door, do you have steps to get up etc. how upright is the seat for toddlers, can it take carrycot for newborns. Goodness so much to consider!!

cloudydaze · 25/09/2008 07:12

We have the sports & whilst I think it's the best double in terms of size I agree with some of the points raised above - really heavy so tricky to heave into the car & the child at the back does seem to get a bit wet when it rains as the raincover doesn't cover them properly due to just being velcro'd together. Also I find the footbrake annoying if wearing open-toed shoes, though obviously that won't be an issue in the forthcoming months!
Also now DS2 is almost one (and so has a bit of length) we've had to get the P&T paniers for it as he needs the leg space underneath where I used to put shopping/nappy bag etc. Paniers are great re storage but it does make it trickier getting through doorways etc Also do find it tricky getting the child in the back seat.
Saying all that (& you did ask for negatives!) I do like ours & find it good to push etc. We also have, from DS1 only days, a bugaboo & maclaren and whilst I prefer the bugaboo I think as a double the P&T is the best. I tested a few before getting it & also asked around. The MB did seem nice to push & prob more comfy for the children but for us it's just too wide.
And the P&T's newborn carry cot (think that's what they call it) is great, our son loved it! And it's much easier getting them in/out of the buggy as you just put them in the carry cot first & then just slide them into the buggy. I did wonder though if you had a spring/summer newborn that they might get a bit hot. As DS2 was born in winter it was fab as he was lovely & warm in it & would go to sleep almost as soon as he was put in the cot, he loved it!
I got our P&T's from kiddicare.com which at the time (last Nov) was the cheapest price I could find. All the extras really add to the cost, think it's rubbish that they even charge for the raincover, that really should come with the buggy!

pgwithnumber3 · 25/09/2008 07:15

Nicola, you are worse than me, on MN at 6.40am!

I have steps going up to my house so need pneumatic tyres, another reason why the P&T won't work for me is I wouldn't be able to bump the pram up the steps with the baby on the bottom.

LACKS - do you want my honest opinion?! I think it looks awful, buy cheap buy twice and all that! I would rather buy something better but second hand. Have you not thought of a secondhand MB yourself?

OP posts:
nicolamumof3 · 25/09/2008 07:21

lol pg!! Yep one of the ds' is always up so i am up too!! And always thinking of pushchairs, it did my head in last year when ds3 was born! are you going to look at s/hand mb? they come up on the for sale boards here x

onelittlelion · 25/09/2008 08:58

(I think I read this thread upside down last night ) I would get the Urban if you want an alrounder tho as can lock the wheel for all terrain but easy round the shops? I am rubbish with fixed wheel for everyday stuff and tend to knock people over! I think there is a terrain for sale on sale boards tho mayb with carrycots too?

LackaDAISYcal · 25/09/2008 09:09

thanks for your honest opinion PGNo3

I've found a local stockist so we are going to go and have a look at that one and see what we think.

Like you, we've been through so many combinations and changes of mind that neither DH nor I can remember what we have decided and when. I need to pin him down one weekend and drag him to a big pram warehouse where we can see all the options on display and make a decision based on that. We had thought the P&T for in a year and halfs time when DD is happy to walk the school run but baby will still need a pram and the single aspect of it, but I think that was when we were going to sell our McLaren. We've decided to keep that though so.......

aaaaaaaargggggggghhghhhhhhh

And if the thing is only going to be used for a year or so, then I don't mind the buy cheap buy twice ethos.....still cheaper than a P&T or MB....and hopefully it'll last a year. It gets good reviews and made the top ten list in a review in the Independant a couple of years ago.

but off to check out second hand MBs now

pgwithnumber3 · 25/09/2008 09:26

LACKS maybe we should meet up and drive to Peterborough together and go to the Kiddicare huge shop, they stock everything I think! Only 3.5 hours from me.

I definitely think it will be the Easywalker for me, I can fit the Maxi Cosi car seat onto it as well which will be great for the school run. Just need to decide what colour to buy! Probably brown as it won't show up the dirt(!) and looks lovely with pink.

I have found a brand new Mountain Buggy supplier on ebay where they have all the colours but they ship from Canada and it costs £415 for the MB and £77 for shipment (by sea!) or £150 for 4 day air shipment. Wouldn't bother with the air shipment but it is a good deal for the shipment by sea and you can make the ebayer an offer. here

I wish I knew someone in America who could buy me one and ship it over. My mum does have family in Florida but she isn't close enough to them to get them to arse around for me!

LackaDAISYcal · 25/09/2008 09:29

It's still soooooo much money!

DH works near Boston in the week so it a lot nearer to Peterborough than me. He said he might pop in in a week or so and have a look. He doesn't realise my pregnant lady urge to get this sorted and get it sorted NOW!

Where in the country are you?

LackaDAISYcal · 25/09/2008 09:29

just looked at your profile......I'm in Leeds. We should meet up in Manc sometime

LackaDAISYcal · 25/09/2008 09:31

oh, and you and your DDs are gorgeous by the way

WheresTheAuPair · 25/09/2008 09:46

To put my 10ps worth in...I just got a very reasonable P&T's from ebay last week. (No way could I justify the new price tag otherwise! )

I think it will solve my problem which is DS at 22 months likes to walk everywhere except for 10 min bursts to rest his legs.

He doesn't like buggy boards as yet and we do loads of off roading so my maclaren isn't much use in the woods. Until recently i'd just stick him on my shoulders for a rest but with the new baby arriving this will put an end to that game.

The big major thing I am unhappy with 9P&T's) was when we were playing with it and he was happily clambering in and out of it he managed to completely rip the darn shopping basket down the side!! [shock}

GRRR. my only consolation is that it was not brand spanking new but still grrr!

pgwithnumber3 · 25/09/2008 09:50

We will definitely have to meet up in Manchester! Thanks for the compliment!

It is a lot of money but hey what's money?! We may be at the beginning of a recession but at least my babies will be comfy in style. I sold my Bugaboo last week for £350 so that will be going towards it but I won't be spending more than £500. So it is a case of finding £150 which is not too bad. Although the £350 has already gone on debts... Hard month this month but next month will be better so DH can give me the whole £500 I will need to buy one. He does not know this yet.

When I read that your DH works in Boston my heart skipped a beat but they realised you meant in this country!

OP posts:
pgwithnumber3 · 25/09/2008 09:53

AuPair, that is what concerns me with them, the quality of some parts of it are rubbish but the concept is brilliant iyswim.

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 25/09/2008 10:01

they must have good copyright on the design still as there aren't any copies/clones out there yet! Wait till their copyright runs out; there will be a rash of clones available.......probably when I don;t need a buggy anymore

meeting in manc is a must then

the build quility is a real concern for me too....and DH? would freak if after spending all that money it ripped easily.

Lol most people do a double take when I say he works in Boston.......sadly tis the cabbage capital of the UK rather than one of the USs premier shopping destinations.

pgwithnumber3 · 25/09/2008 10:49

I have been to Boston USA and it is one of my favourite places in the world. Absolutely gorgeous. Was gonna throw your DH a fiver to get me a MB!

How much are you wanting to spend, I am assuming around £300-£400 bracket if you are looking at a new P&T. I quite like the look of this one from Kiddicare as well. Teutonia are a great make, my friend had one a few years back (I remember the Beckhams having one for Brooklyn so they must be good - saddo bitch aren't !?) and you would only need to get a couple of buggysnuggles for it. I am going to ring a stockist in Liverpool and see if they have it for me to test.

I cannot see where you can even hang your handbag/changing bag on the P&T, it would mean having to spend masses of cash on buying all the little extras you would need just to function normally.

Yes, Manc it is! I love Leeds as well though, been a couple of times, is it the Victorian Quarter there which is lovely, cannot remember. DD1 lost her beloved Tigger in Leeds, I will never forget the night we had with her screaming the hotel down, the next day DH was at the Disney Store before opening buying a new one. Thank god they had one in Leeds!

OP posts:
nicolamumof3 · 25/09/2008 12:58

i like the look of that teutonia...you should both join our pushchair chat in the classifieds! like the reversible seat option.

pgwithnumber3 · 25/09/2008 13:07

Nicola, i am afraid if I join a thread on pushchairs, I will be sucked into the "buying 10 a year brigade"! I will give it a look!

I like the Teutonia lookswise but it doesn't have pneumatic tyres. Definitely one to look at though as the reversible seat is great.
