Before I spend ££££ on one, please tell me if they are shite or not. I only tend to see people posting about the positives of them but I want to hear what is negative.

i HATED mine!

this is what i didnt like:

  • my newborn was quickly too long for underneath but not old enough/big enough to go in back

*when she was underneath, i couldnt see her and she couldnt see me

*when it was in this position and ds was on the seat on top he was so tall his head was right up in the roof and couldnt get raincover over him AT ALL so he had to get wet.

  • raincover doesnt completely cover when in tandem mode so baby got wet at the sides

*with a heavy child on top its very very topheavy, ds used to pull it over frequently.

*baby behind in tandem is right in line for dogs etc, there is no 'protection', they also get splashed from puddles etc in wet weather

*difficult to manoevre with a heavier child (i had a very old landrover atp many years ago which was the business- this is urban shite at its worst)

*the ONLY good thing i can say is having it as a tandem for just one child in the front and using the back seat as a shoppping basket.

i cant undersatnd how they are still going. i tell everyone i meet how rubbish they are!
i really really regretted buying mine (ds2 was 23mths when dd was born)- within a couple of months i was using a cheapo buggy with a buggyboard then later a micralite for just dd (wehich is the best thing since sliced bread!)

hth

I LOVE mine but tbh I hardly use it as a double.
I also agree that the raincover doesn't cover both seats very well and it is very awkward to carry once folded.
I also found it was the ONLY double that fitted in my Fiesta car boot-couldn't even get a double Maclaren in as the handles are too long.
Ds2 is always happier in the P&T's and looks alot more comfortable than when he's in our Maclaren.

LackaDAISYcal · 24/09/2008 14:53

is that even with the doubles raincover that it doesn't fit well?

Bubbaloo · 24/09/2008 16:03

Yes,we have the double raincover. It's never really been a problem for us as I've only had to use the raincover twice but I can definately see it being a problem for someone who does alot of walking, with the buggy.

belcantwait · 24/09/2008 16:05

yes with the doubles one

littlelamb · 24/09/2008 16:11

We've had ours for 3 weeks and so far I am very pleased, but there are a few niggles. I find it really hard to fold/unfold, but I don't know if this is because I have just never had the practice, as I walk everywhere and don't have to fold it very often. I find the double raincover fine. The one thing that really got me was that after 2 weeks use the material on the doubles seat has started to fray. I emailed the retailer and they are sending me a new one, but it does make me wonder what state it will be in when we are done with it

WinkyWinkola · 24/09/2008 16:16

Brake too stiff. Handle not quite high enough for me (I'm 6ft).

Phil and Ted's customer service are great though. I had to get something for our wheels replaced and they were so speedy and courteous. Friend of mine got the whole fabric of her buggy replaced after 1 year.

nicolamumof3 · 24/09/2008 16:18

agree too that P&T great c/s. I've not had problem with doubles raincover, yes it is bulky to carry around with you, but keeps both my boys perfectly dry.

MrsBates · 24/09/2008 16:19

I like mine but often get arm ache since when the double seat is attached - which is most of the time at the moment - it's a stretch for me and my munchkin limbs.

pgwithnumber3 · 24/09/2008 19:58

Right made my decision (for today!), went to Mothercare, put DD2 and my friend's DD2 in the Phil and Ted's. I hated it, DD1 (only a tiny 12 months) looked cramped in it and hated it, she was wanting to look up to see her little friend but couldn't. It was not padded at all, in fact it looked really tatty already and this one was only shop soiled. Nowhere to put shopping/changing bag etc. Although I liked how it pushed, I cannot buy a pram on this alone.

Tried the Powertwin but found it too long and I would knock things over with it in shops. Tried the Mountain Buggy - ahhh, bliss, it pushed like a dream, they were dead comfy in it, were holding hands, I could get around the majority of Mothercare with it (and where I couldn't, you couldn't have got a P&T through either). It was easy to get up and down and was solid but not too heavy.

Went to another pram store, tried the Icandy Pear, I didn't like that either, dismantling it was a military operation and it would piss me off no end in the rain etc.

Soooo, I loved the Mountain Buggy but they are £650 so I am going to go on the advice of dizzydixies and get one of these - £150 cheaper than a Mountain Buggy but practically the same pram.

Hehe, who wants to have a bet that I change my mind before Feb!?

I don't have a p+t but I hate them just from looking at them. The poor child underneath can't see where they are going!!!!

I need a double suitab;e from birth though too so have been looking at options. I have been recomended the Nipper 360 but haven't actually tried one yet.

nicolamumof3 · 24/09/2008 20:18

oh course you will pg !!!! Its a nightmare isn't it!! thats why im on my fifth double. great you've tried them out thats the only way. would you not consider s/hand mountain buggy?

tassisssss · 24/09/2008 20:21

pg with number 3, this time last year I was obsessing over buying one of these for when my 3rd was born.

The bottom line was we couldn't afford it and as the months passed I realise my 2nd child (who would be 21 months when db was born) was the type of child who preferred to walk so I really didn't want to spend a lot on a double.

So I got a nipper, v cheap second hand (very old and worn). It's a FANTASTIC pushchair. Do go and try one out!!

pgwithnumber3 · 24/09/2008 20:42

It is a nightmare nicola! I am incredibly fussy (you may have guessed) so buying prams is a quest for perfection and there is no such thing.

tassisssss - did you want a P&T before your third was born or a Mountain Buggy?

I saw the Nipper today, I really didn't like the look of it. Seemed HUGE! Thanks anyway!

OP posts:
tassisssss · 24/09/2008 20:44

I wanted a P&T, sorry that wasn't clear.

Surprised you found the nipper huge compared to other side by side doubles...

Hope you find one you like!

pgwithnumber3 · 24/09/2008 20:46

Does it say Out and About on the footrest? I think the front of it look massive, it probably is no wider than the MB.

OP posts:
nicolamumof3 · 24/09/2008 20:48

pg me too. it was a nightmare, i thought i find the perfect one when i bought my combi as i needed it to be light to push. it was but had so many other niggles thought i would try a tandem useless!! Then had two umbrella folds once ds3 was then 6m so didn't need so much padding. they were great but became so hard to push with two big lads in!! Thats the thing what you need now, you might not in 6months so don't spend too much do look to s/hand as lots of doubles do get passed on quickly!! but i had my fingers burnt on ebay would only buy s/hand if i viewed first.

pgwithnumber3 · 24/09/2008 20:53

Nicola, to answer your question re buying secondhand, I too would have to view first. I think the MB's get a lot of battering usually so can imagine they can look a bit rank. I sold my Bugaboo last week, I took the whole thing apart, washed very bit that could be washed, soaked the wheels and scrubbed the frame. It was like new when I finished it but I am afraid a lot of ebayers just don't take the same approach when selling and just give it a quick wipe over. I would rather buy new so I know it is immaculate (big clean freak!). I took DD2 out in my older M&P Pliko today, I hate it, it looks old and I felt scruffy.

If anyone is selling an immaculate Mountain Buggy let me know though!

Thanks Sazzles. What condition was it in when you got it? Do they wear well? Have you found anywhere were it is a nuisance to get around? Thanks by the way

That is what I need, something that will last years. I will get a decent single in a couple of years to have for when I only have one of them but I want something that is rugged and I can take off road (we live near the beach). I have spotted new ones on ebay from Canada for £415, it is just the postage which probably should not be more than £100, so still a bargain.

I doubt I would purchase the carrycot, the baby wouldn't be in it long enough.

I definitely don't want one with a fixed front wheel, it needs to be able to swivel around the shops etc!
