Before I spend ££££ on one, please tell me if they are shite or not. I only tend to see people posting about the positives of them but I want to hear what is negative.

gah I'm going through this now -have realised there is no such thing as the perfect twin/double which is why still haven't got one even though dd2 is now 4.5 months!

MatNanPlus · 23/09/2008 20:06

A drawback of the use of the doubles seat on the top with baby under is that if you recline (unzip) the top seat it sinks into the leg/bum space of the baby's space.

No problem using hood, sun mesh etc with double seat under but the raincover when using that way is a complete PITA as the 6.5mo eats it [rolls eyes] am using brace clips with elestic to keep it behind the seat.

It is equal in weight to a double MB.

Both have harsh seats and straps.

Apart from that i love it.

Question :

Can have the seats of the iCandy Pear facing forward with the lower seat reclined for the baby and the upper seat sat up?

So you can see the baby?

I am not a fan at all of baby in car seat out of car, but that is my personal thing.

If yes then i would be tempted tho would have to test drive it and the P&T is rugged as i use it on cobbles and unpaved areas and it is great, big wheels are great for that feature.

pgwithnumber3 · 23/09/2008 20:12

Hatrick, what's the double nipper?

MatNanPlus - yes I think you can do that, as on the website they have pics of the carrycot (which uses the same seat frame as the seat unit) on the back and the front seat unit sitting upwards. You have to have both seats facing the same way though, but that wouldn't bother me. The car seat would only be used for the school run, I wouldn't put the baby in it for more than 1/2 hour.

My usage of a double pram will be:

Pram in car, get kids into car, take DD1 to school (have to drive, too far to walk), get pram out, put DD2 and DD3 in it (hence would be easier if baby kept in car seat) and walk 10 mins to school (have to park at a friends, it is mega hard to get near to the school to park), walk back with DD2 and DD3 and get back in car. Maybe in the afternoon I will go for a walk to the shops with DD2 and DD3 and get a few bits in for tea or pick up clothes from our town centre (only 15 min walk away). I don't do any off road walking and it is pavements all the way. Then back to do the school run, the same as the morning.

Who can advise me what the best double would be for this? I have a M&P Pliko which can be used as a single when I only have 1 of them with me so a side by side is an option.

I definitely do not want a Maclaren, I have one a friend gave me and it is awful to push. I suffer with a bad back and shoulder so need something nice to push (I loved my Bugaboo).

Definitely worth a look at, thanks hatrick! - I may have to pinch your name by the way. I will have to change mine in 4 months! I think it will become "suicidalwithnumber3".

How much are they hatrick and how easy are they to get up and down?

I looked at the icandy pear and was put off it as I felt the solid wheels at the front would make the ride juttery, and I didn't find the steering too good.
None of them are perfect!

sasamax · 23/09/2008 22:13

And once you add all the bits on it costs about a million pounds

changer22 · 23/09/2008 22:14

Hated mine despite being soooo excited about buying it.

Was really heavy to push and lift into the car especially post c-section. Neither child looked comfortable in it, my shoulders ached permanently.

Banging baby DD's head on the lower seat side bar as I put her in it one day was the last straw. Sold it on.

Bought a double Mountain Buggy Terrain with a carrycot on one side. Loved it and would recommend it to anyone. Great for sleeping children and good to push. I used it for children 1 and 2 (18 month age gap) and children 2 and 3 (2y 10 month gap).

MatNanPlus · 23/09/2008 23:03

If you liked the Bugaboo what about the FirstWheels City Twin?

A nanny mummy has one and says it is very like her single Bugaboo for handling?

MrsWeasley · 23/09/2008 23:21

I don't own one but used one for 2 children I childmind and I don't like them.(the pushachair not the children) The one I used has a seat at the back like this
The toddlers fingers were way to close to the wheels for my liking, (LO did infact grab at the wheel a few times. I also found that being so low to the ground the LO at the back got a bit of a bumpy ride with kerbs etc. more so than I found with other pushchairs.

The main reason I didn't like them was that my LO aged 12months could undo the straps. They in fact pushed against the straps and managed to loosen them and then slipped out (this was with parents there as well, otherwise I wouldnt have believed it)

There is no where to put the bags, as the child uses the little basket to put their feet in!

I found the pushchair difficult (almost impossible) to steer with only 1 hand (unlike other buggies/pushchairs I have used) so having no bag space made life tricky and I couldn't let one walk and hold my hand unless they held on to the buggys high handle. (Which made their arm ache)

HTH

LackaDAISYcal · 23/09/2008 23:41

Not you again

Just when I think I've made my mind up, along you come with another look at P&Ts and now I'm in two twenty minds about it again

theNaughtiestGirlKeepsaSecret · 23/09/2008 23:45

I didn't.

I bought mine when the baby was 10 months old, and my older child was nearly 3, so older child went on the BOTTOM, so she could jump in and out.

This is not recommended, as the heavier child is always supposed to go above, but... IF you have the heavier child above and she wants to get out then you're left with one on the bottom which isn't recommended either!!! You're not supposed to have one on the bottom without having one above (for balance obviously).

Anyway, in the end, my averagely heighted daughter managed to push her legs through the basket so that the basket dragged along the ground. I tried to fix it with gaffer tape and so on.

I wish I had bought a jane double 3 wheeler.

MrsWeasley · 23/09/2008 23:45

Sorry, I should add that the parents who own the p&t think its great.

Ready4anotherCoffee · 23/09/2008 23:58

Hmmm, I'm really glad I went with my gut instinct and didn't get one! I have a double MB and love it though!

nicolamumof3 · 24/09/2008 07:26

I Still LOVE mine THE best double i've pushed and i've had a few, I like the flexibility of using it as either a double or a twin and its a dream to push with either one or two.

Pixiefish · 24/09/2008 07:27

I sold mine after a couple of months and hardly no usage.

Too heavy and cumbersome to use with just one baby

pgwithnumber3 · 24/09/2008 09:05

LACKS Sorry! Was wondering how long it took for you to find it! How are you?

I am going to Mothercare later with a friend and my DD2(12 months) and her DD2 (15 months and quite big) so I can try the Mountain Buggy, Maclaren, P&T Sport and Vibe and Jane Powertwin with them both in. Will report back later with my conclusions...

LackaDAISYcal · 24/09/2008 09:58

getting a bit fed up now...only six weeks to go and getting cumbersome and tired. Still the state my house is in, baby is definately better in than out at the minute. I hope you are OK

Have fun testing buggies...and good luck getting an assistant to help you in Mothercare; they are like hen's teeth in our local store!

pgwithnumber3 · 24/09/2008 10:31

Oh, who needs assistants! I know more about prams than the people who make them! I always end up telling the assistants about them whilst my friend is grimacing away in the background.

6 weeks to go! You are having a boy aren't you? Any names yet? We have chosen Claudia for a girl, seems to have stuck as DD1 loves it. How old is your youngest again?

I am fine thank you, 21 weeks now, easyish time in pregnancy the second trimester so trying to enjoy it. It is flying by though. We have had a hard couple of weeks as been ill and ended up in hospital then DD2 been quite poorly over the weekend, allergy to penicillin, it really upset her. She is great today though so can venture out. Trip to Mothercare - highlight of the week.

mamadiva · 24/09/2008 10:38

Have used my friends for my DS and her DD both toddlers though age 1&2.

I hated it with a passion, feel sorry for the child in the bottom as there isn't alot of leg room for older kids, so would probably be renderred useless after a year, seat is very narrow so no good for a child beiiger than average size, the raincover is crap and quite fidgity

pgwithnumber3 · 24/09/2008 10:41

The only thing that I think could work regarding the lack of legroom on the doubles seat is that by the time DD3 is that size, DD2 (hopefully) should be walking a lot more. I may try the Vibe for size, it looks a bigger doubles seat.

mamadiva · 24/09/2008 10:44

The Powertwin is also very heavy and bulky, my mum has twins so tried out alot with her too when they grew out of their emmaljunga cerox. Which I would defo reccommend if space is not an issue because it is massive but I bought the single one because I loved it so much.

She is seling it for £150 if anyone's intersted LOL.
