Just took receipt of a fantastic triple cd of 80's 12" singles! Some fab stuff on there ranging from The Cure and The Banshees and Japan and Lloyd Cole to Curiosity Killed The Cat! Am wallowing in nostalgia as I type! Mostly one for the indie kids (or Mnetters previously known as such...) but some fab tracks.
Here's the link - but I'm not sure that it will work...

moondog · 27/02/2005 22:22

unicorn if it was you shagging in my bedsit you still owe me £5!! (Lot of money in '85)
'Forest Fire' was the Lloyd Cole song we had on endlessly...

moondog · 27/02/2005 22:26

lou33 · 27/02/2005 22:28

MummytoSteven · 27/02/2005 22:29

seabird - is that one - johnny drinks, johnny drinks, johnny drinks johnny walker, till he runs up a bill....the pope couldn't pay (Prince in a Pauper's Grave).

101 Damnations was pretty good as well.

Dahlia · 27/02/2005 22:31

unicorn, 'space age love song' was a bit good. And Iggy Pop, oh yes.
I went to see Siouxsie & Banshees at the manchester apollo when I was about 15 - thought I was the coolest thing - crimped hair with a splodge of blue food colouring on the fringe, fishnet tights, winklepickers, tight mini skirt, oh god, what did I look like?

Joy Division anyone? And The Associates?

Libb · 27/02/2005 22:37

Isn't weird when something crops up that warps you right back to another time?! I adore all these tracks! - as a nod to the "also searched for" stuff I would recommend Miss Kittin if you like dance music. We drove home from Glasutonbury listening to one of her albums and it is always kicks off good vibes for me - but that is me.

Still, you can't beat the older stuff sometimes.

Libb · 27/02/2005 22:39

Joy Division rules, 24 Hour Party People was brilliant I thought.

unicorn · 27/02/2005 22:41

dahlia... are you a manc?..
(I am!! )
I threw up on a joy division record (transmission I think) It wasn't a comment on the music..it wa my terrible Manchester upbringing!!!!!!

moondog (it wasn't me!!!!)

17 , and not yet a woman...
(anyone know next line..???)

Libb · 27/02/2005 22:44

I have just twigged that my copy of 24 Hour Party People has been missing for some time - I have a feeling that I won't see it again

moondog · 27/02/2005 22:44

so clean/unclean(?) thought that you were da da da da

PuffTheMagicDragon · 27/02/2005 22:53

Can't believe I've only just spotted this thread ...ah the memories.

Was Pete Murphy's number 1 fan. Adored Bauhaus, saw them many times. Touched Pete's boot at a concert....heavenly.

Had a boyfriend who was the double of David Sylvian. He had the hair, make up, whole works. Took longer than me to get ready for a night out lol .

unicorn · 27/02/2005 23:25

David sylvian..'Japan'

Do you rememeber 'Nightporter'?

It made me want to learn piano... (I haven't yet.. but one day!!)

(david sylvian at his best)

What was that track that would definately give you a heart attack if you tried to dance to it now... Pigbag??? (is that right?!!)

TinyGang · 27/02/2005 23:33

Lol at Pigbag and a heart attact - so true

Loved Japan! In fact I loved all those brooding 80's made up pretty boys!

Does anyone remember Black 'Wonderful Life'. He was yummy too.

MummytoSteven · 27/02/2005 23:34

oooh yes...

no need to run/and hide/it's a wonderful, wonderful life

regularly play that on Now 85, with one of my all time faves, Kirsty McColl and New England

TinyGang · 27/02/2005 23:36

Kirsty McColl - now you're talking! Very sad she's no longer with us

MummytoSteven · 27/02/2005 23:37

i know
any idea if there has been any progress with her family trying to reopne the investigation into her death?

TinyGang · 27/02/2005 23:41

There was a programme about this a few months back. I think they're still trying to get to the truth - some cover up about who was actually driving the boat that killed her. Her mother was really nice - a very poignant trip for her to the place her daughter died.

lou33 · 27/02/2005 23:54

i saw david sylvian sing nightporter in concert once with no backing at all, it was brilliant

Seabird · 28/02/2005 17:05

MummytoSteven - that's the one! I remembered the title during a bout of pregnancy insomnia last night but it's gone again now. I think I had 101 Damnations on tape actually, must dig it out and see if it still plays.

David Sylvian/Japan - beautiful music .

MummytoSteven · 28/02/2005 17:08

seabird, they used to play that all the time in Afflecks Palace in manchester.

any of you mancs have fond memories of Afflecks, and the Corn Exchange as was before they turned into it Triangleshopping centre>
