What's happened to Marie Claire? I haven't touched it in 2 months. The only interesting one for a reasonably intelligent read is (shudder at name!) Good Housekeeping. Or am I getting old? Vanity Fair can be good, too.

OP posts:
lou33 · 23/02/2005 14:10

was a tough decision choosing which one i wanted though.

wobblyknicks · 23/02/2005 14:11

You'll have to tell me whether it comes in transparent plastic or anonymous brown paper so I can decide whether to subscribe or not

lou33 · 23/02/2005 14:12

Bet it comes with some sort of vocal announcement, screaming that my top shelf mag has arrived!

wobblyknicks · 23/02/2005 14:14

Lol, in which case I certainly won't be going for it!!! Am not so interested about how the mag arrives but what sort of packaging your free 'half of Ann Summers' is in!!!

MistressMary · 23/02/2005 14:14

I think womens mags are rubbish.
Haven't bought one in years.
Rather stick to mumsnet and the like.

lou33 · 23/02/2005 14:15

probably comes a buzzing!

wobblyknicks · 23/02/2005 14:16

What if it comes hand delivered by a guy in a black PVC gimp outfit??

pinotgrigio · 23/02/2005 14:17

As someone on a permanent diet I get illicit thrills from buying Delicious and BBC Good Food and flicking through the pictures of food that contains fat.

LGJ · 23/02/2005 14:17

She will drag in the door, ask him if he has any bar experience, and then threaten to ravish him regardless

wobblyknicks · 23/02/2005 14:18

Lol LGJ!!!

lou33 · 23/02/2005 14:19

depends what he looks like

if he resembles roy hattersley i will make him clean the toilet with his tongue.

If he looks like gael garcia bernal then he will have to give me a tutorial, and i am not v good with instructions, so it would take a very long time.

wobblyknicks · 23/02/2005 14:20

I have a terrible memory so he'd have to come back every day/night to show me again

LGJ · 23/02/2005 14:23

I was going to say WHO?? but decided to do a google instead, yum yum,

Get 'em young and treat 'em rough

lou33 · 23/02/2005 14:24

lgj you seem to know me so well i am thinking i am posting to myself

LGJ · 23/02/2005 14:28

LOL

I think we have the same sense of humour.

lou33 · 23/02/2005 14:30

oh bugger i have to go just as it was going to get intersting. Will find you later!

sunchowder · 23/02/2005 14:59

Have to add that I really enjoy Oprah Magazine...hard to admit, but it does touch on alot of interesting subjects. Better Homes and Gardens is also a staple of mine (I subscribe and it comes to the house). Those are the only two I read....

Davros · 23/02/2005 15:32

Going to try This Week, you can subscribe and get 4 copies free then cancel if you don't like it. Will have a look at Oprah in the shops (I adore her so....)
Lou, what do you mean there's always room for one more sex toy? Room where

Prettybird · 23/02/2005 15:37

I'll admit to liking Good Housekeeping. I am 43 though - but young with it ! Mum has always got it and I found myself getting it for myself in my late 20s, when Cosmo stopped satisfying me

Used to buy Woman's Journal as well and was devastated went it shut down - with no advance notice.

But now I am a Mum, often don't get a chance to read a full edition, unless I'm on holiday - so maybe it is as well that Women's Journal shut down!

Demented · 23/02/2005 15:46

I buy Good Food and Slimming World, there could be a connection.

Marina · 23/02/2005 15:47

I loved WJ too prettybird

Davros · 23/02/2005 15:52

ROFL Demented!
Prettybird, I gave up GH because its too boring and I'm 45!! Mind you, I was brought up on Bunty, June & Schoolfriend, Mandy then Jackie and Honey then NME.....

spacedonkey · 23/02/2005 15:54

does scarlet have bare willies or is it just dull pics of scanty clad blokes?

i like the FT Weekend mag, it's brilliant

Word is great too. And Private Eye.

Hate all women's mags, utter tripe.

miggy · 23/02/2005 16:21

Will confess to magazine addiction.
Buy delicous
bbc good food magazine
the kitchen garden
good housekeeping
every month
plus a selection from eve, she, red depending on the features/free gifts etc
and selection from country smallholder, horse, country homes and interiors, junior, ideal home, france depending on how bored I Am or how much time I spend in newsagents.
Agree with others, read lots of books too but sometimes only a magazine will do!
Anyone remember "M" sort of offshoot from she, I really liked that-obv no one else did as it folded really quickly!

sinclair · 23/02/2005 16:31

This is a fascinating thread for all us mavens. I have high hopes for Easy Living (any MNers actually working on it) which is coming soon. I tell all and sundry I get Red (even tho I think it's a bit tired) and only anonymously admit to loving GH - for the recipes!!

Please don't be too hard on mag hags Countess - it has kept me off the streets for 16 years
