Was thinking an academic diary, but all I have found a v dull red or black ones and she has a stationary fetish (family trait) so that will not do!
Any ideas?

she needs a term time diary - A4- you can order them through the unions. I used to just get a student diary before I discovered the organised mum ones last year!

Yurtgirl · 13/07/2008 23:01

I was thinking about this the other day!
With hindsight to my student teaching days (I failed!) I wish I had owned:

a laminater
a paper trimmer

Not very exciting but I really really love the ones I have got now

cornsilk · 13/07/2008 23:02

Pencil case with bits and bobs in - red biros, liquid paper, decent stapler, post its etc.
Also plastic A4 pockets for files.

VirginiaWoolf · 13/07/2008 23:04

Really nice stress relieving shower/bath stuff!

jennifersofia · 13/07/2008 23:04

I have found these very useful:

a 3 hole punch (with guide for A4 sheets)
a good strong stapler
a USB stick
a 1 hold punch

I covet yurtgirl's listed items..

WilfSell · 13/07/2008 23:05

Kevlar vest?

VirginiaWoolf · 13/07/2008 23:05

I always got a diary through school, I think.

VirginiaWoolf · 13/07/2008 23:06

A pamper treatment booked for the first Saturday/half term holiday???

Aefondkiss · 13/07/2008 23:07

my dd's teacher seems to use a lot of stickers and also an ink stamp, with well done and a wee picture - not exactly a need but for primary school it might be nice to have one (more fun than a diary esp for people who like stationery)

Walnutshell · 13/07/2008 23:07

a stripey new pencil case

nothing more

tigana · 13/07/2008 23:08

Blimey, was expecting to have to bump this in morning as an unanswered thread, but hurrah! Oooh, laminators and stuff sound gooooood. Would feed the fetish too! Keep them coming!

Jennifer - They are nowhere near as £££ as I thought they would be

A4 laminater from Tescos cost me about £12 and the trimmer is a german one, cant remember the name, about £15 from staples - utterly fabulous couldnt live without items

tigana · 13/07/2008 23:09

A stripey pencilcase containing an ink stamp and some stamps..and stickers... I can feel a whole gift building here...

Plenty of wine for the end of her first week.

solo · 13/07/2008 23:14

Lots of patience, a permanent smile, love and a box of tissues.

MummyToOneForNow · 13/07/2008 23:16

Don't know if you have heard of flylady - she has a teacher control journal which looks primary focused and includes some lists of things to have as well as suggestions for organising yourself and establishing routines.

I am a secondary teacher but I have a large pencil case with board pens, a "gold star" stamp (or stickers go down even better with younger ones), sellotape, glue etc. I have a stapler and holepunch on my desk and we have a paper trimmer in our dept office - all used frequently.

If the school doesn't provide one a teacher planner (different to a diary) might be useful - depends on what the school requires in terms of documentation of planning.

Walnutshell · 13/07/2008 23:20

No, solo, don't you know the teachers' secret? NEVER SMILE FOR THE FIRST 3 MONTHS!!!

Aefondkiss · 13/07/2008 23:25

some stationery links would be nice

cece · 13/07/2008 23:28

a whistle with a lanyard

MrsWeasley · 13/07/2008 23:29

A nice bottle of wine (well maybe a crate!)
and a bottle of vodka for when the wine doesnt dull the pain

cece · 13/07/2008 23:31

this is a good website
www.superstickers.uk.net/

You can make stickers and stamps with her name on.

tigana · 13/07/2008 23:33

Will be printing out that FLY journal for her... will present it with a health warning though
