I want to prove that we can have 3 carseats without having to have a MPV

We currently have a Skoda Superb and although it is long there is no chance we could fit 3 seats across the back

Ford Mondeo

depends on the car seats tbh. We ended up with an mpv for safety reasons. You don't want the seats so jammed in that the seat belt buckles are not safe (something called buckle crunch I believe?).

you want a car with a wide flat back seat, we had a BMW X5 which is obv. a big car but the back seat curves at the sides so it couldn't fit 3 carseats across.

citroen picasso

We have a seven year old volvo estate, it's fantastic as not only can you fit three car seats in the back, the boot has room for all the stuff you need to lug around with 3 DCs. It feels safe as well as built like a tank. Love it

thanks,

anyone else?? I really need to convince DH that another baby is ok!

Fiat Doblo - fits 3 car seat across the back, we found the Citroen Picasso didn't, maybe the new models are better.
The Doblo is brilliant, cheap to insure and also has a massive boot.
Volvo's are nice but high insurance, servicing, spares, etc. my Dad has just got rid of his for those reasons.
Go to Fiat and have a look, take your car seats and try them in the bakc, that's how we decided.

picasso fine for us - high backed booster, next size seat down and a baby seat
no touching of seats
no scuffing of knuckles to fasten belts

we have a 2005 model (Xsara Picasson Desire if that help)

Maybe you can just get new carseats instead? We ended up w/two Sunshine Kids Radian seats and one infant seat, but you can do three Radians. They are pretty narrow.

popsycal · 12/07/2008 18:45

We have 3 quite bulky ones in the picasso...

britax rennaissance, mamas and papas primo viaggio and britax hiliner

PeachyBAHons · 12/07/2008 18:54

we had 3 graco seats in the back of our persona, only went up to a bigger car when trying for ds4. with a mahoosive britax when ds3 was younger

Tommy · 12/07/2008 18:58

Citroen Berlingo. 3 car seats fit easily across the back and the boot is huge - ca carry double pushcahir, 2 tripp trapps and stuff for weekend away with no problem

morocco · 12/07/2008 19:43

there is a little gizmo thing you can buy that slots over the seat belt fastener (whatever it is called) so children can't undo it
very handy

yomellamoHelly · 12/07/2008 20:01

Mondeo too

My trusty 13 year old Rover 214. Takes 3 high back booster seats. Bit of a fiddle getting the seat belts clipped in between the seats but we often travel with a friend and her daughter and all fit in nicely.
Someone I do some work for has two quite modest sized hatchback cars and each has 2 highback boosters and a britax type younger childs seat in the back.

cheesesarnie · 12/07/2008 23:35

we have a Renault Scenic, its fantastic!lots of room and hidy holes.i dont drive so get excited by space and storage!dh says its great drive too though.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 12/07/2008 23:52

Range Rover, we had 3 vast 2nd stage seats in a row. It's a bit of a faff reaching all the seat belt buckles but not so squashed to be dangerous.

One of the car seats could be fitted with just a lap belt but I don't think they make them anymore. So whatever car you get, you'll need to make sure it has a 3-point harness seat belt on the middle seat.

cadelaide · 13/07/2008 00:11

Mondeo,this car is so underrated.
Ask anyone who really knows about cars, forget the badge,it's the most complete car you can buy. Handles beautifully and stupidly reliable too.
