Mine?s 8 years old and am planning to use it for new baby. Do I have to prepare myself for being openly laughed at?

think trendy ones are a bit chavvy tbh

Carameli · 01/02/2005 12:48

kiddicare.com have some great deals at the moment. I got an XT for £99 and I love it. DD is 16mnths and its so much lighter.
They've also got lots of others on sale at the moment, worth a look if you are looking for one

PuffTheMagicDragon · 01/02/2005 12:48

Mclaren quest - needs a damn good wash . Doesn't look remotely trendy. Prev had a Britax Practicale Sport, not particularly trendy. Used both with both ds's.

nailpolish · 01/02/2005 12:49

lowcalCOD · 01/02/2005 12:49

sansouci · 01/02/2005 12:53

wwww, I've already been on one, ages ago, when I 1st joined MN. I think you were there, too. And suzywong. . Old habits die hard, eh?

geekgrrl · 01/02/2005 12:59

i happily used my huge six year old cosatto riga 2in1 pram (in a very untrendy bright blue and red tartan), with my latest baby who is now 1, and have passed it on to a friend who is expecting her third.

Also have a cheap-as-chips mothercare buggy which is actually really good (apart from the awful colours - all neons urgh).

MistressMary · 01/02/2005 13:05

i got a mothercare pushchair. Navy colour and was 90 quid with the raincover chucked in.
A nice basket underneath and comfy for little one. I cannot be arsed with trediness to be honest.
And it's very light and fits in my car which is ore important.

coppertop · 01/02/2005 13:13

Ds2 happily rides around in the pushchair we used for ds1. No idea what make it is but it cost about £20 from Argos 4 years ago. I wouldn't be able to tell one brand from another if I saw one in the street tbh. The pushchair is perfect for us. It's very easy to fold one-handed and has travelled miles as we don't have a car.

gingerbear · 01/02/2005 13:15

When I was green & newly pregnant, I succummbed to pressure and looked at every pram review on the web/magazine, test drove loads, and spent £170 on a pram/pushchair combo from M&P. (was a previous years colour and without the carseat, so in a sale). It was lovely whilst in use as a pram for DD when she was tiny, but cumbersome and heavy as a pushchair as she got older.

I did not realise how much I needed a lightweight buggy until I bought a Maclaren vogue (next notch down from XT).

Would never spend more than necessary on a pram if-I-knew-then-what-I-know -now.

Poshpaws · 01/02/2005 13:18

My sister and trade pushchairs all the time - have only got new one this time (half price Toys R Us travel system) because her old travel system is truly knackered.

What is a trendy pushcair anyway? Is it one of those high-up seated jobbies or those three-wheelers (both of which I cannot stand)

BethAndHerBrood · 01/02/2005 13:19

Lordy, how i loathe 3 wheeler prams!!!! Does anyone else think they look like a baby in a wheelbarrow!!!

jessicasmummy · 01/02/2005 13:20

im the same - regret buying the travel system. dd was in car seat for 4 months.... we use the big buggy for the occasional trip round the estate, but otherwise i use the lightweight stroller from mothercare - a grand total of £35!!!

Blackduck · 01/02/2005 13:21

Not trendy at all - at least five years old...and second hand......ds doesn't seem to mind...

misdee · 01/02/2005 13:22

but 3 wheelers are easy to push. especially if you have a larger than avergae toddler.

iota · 01/02/2005 13:26

It took me ages to re-home my 5 yr old Britax travel system (pushchair, car seat and carrycot) as it's obviously no longer trendy enough.

I was on the point of throwing it away when I finally found someone to take it off my hands - I didn't even want money for it, just hated to see it to go to waste.

We bought a lightweight McLaren Quest a couple of years ago, which has done good service.

Poshpaws · 01/02/2005 13:31

We have a fantatstic, good-quality second hand baby stuff shop round the corner from me and I bought a tandem one from there before as I used to look after my nephew as well as my DS before I went back to work - cost about £40.00.

The owner does a good trade, despite that fact that I am supposed to live in a fairly affluent area and you would assume that peopel could afford to buy brand new. Good on 'em I say!.

I actually got DS's two potties for training from there. A grand total of £2.50 - my sis was mortified about that, though

Bozza · 01/02/2005 13:58

DD is still using the "Millenium" edition (kind of gives away its age) Graco push chair (was a travel system but she has outgrown the car seat). Its fairly untrendy but I have noted that whenever we spot the same one out and about (its black and yellow) there's always a 4yo hanging off the side or being yelled at to come back! Having said that maybe it was trendy once because I once saw a picture in Hello of Brooklyn Beckham in one. Cost £150 inc. rain cover, changing bag and car seat so was quite shocked.

Once the weather warms up I have to decide whether to continue to use the knackered/filthy blue and yellow Maclaren Daytripper (£50 because previous season's colour) or invest in a new buggy. Was considering Maclaren Triumph because fairly cheap.

charleypops · 01/02/2005 13:59

It doesn't matter what you have as long as it does what you need it to. I'm getting a 3 wheeler because I do a lot of off roading with the dog. As long as you're happy, you won't feel like you should have anything trendy. In fact, you'll probably feel smug because you probably paid less than half the price

HunkerMunker · 01/02/2005 14:04

We have a Jane Carrera C with the Matrix carseat because we were travelling quite a lot when DS was tiny and wanted him lying flat. It was a fantastic pram and he loves being in the pushchair too (it lies so flat it's like a big bed!), but the pushchair lives in DH's boot and I have a Quest (£65 from kiddicare) which I take on the bus and train.

Still use both a lot, so don't regret having a 'trendy' one - we went for one which was relatively light, folded up pretty small and didn't have the 'perched carseat' look which I hate! The enormous travel systems are SO heavy!!

LIZS · 01/02/2005 14:05

Even trusty old Maclarens can be trendy -see here!

HunkerMunker · 01/02/2005 14:05

(Decided against the Triumph in favour of the Quest because I was using it for a five-month-old baby and wanted the extendable leg-rest bit - think the Triumph looks uncomfy for a baby whose feet hang over the edge of the seat!)

emmatmg · 01/02/2005 14:11

All 3 ds's have used the M&P pram we bought when DS1 was born. Couldn't tell you the name of it but it is bright blue/green/orange check and could easily light up a small town at night time. It's soooo bright, which was trendy when ds1 was ababy but not whan ds2+3 came along.

But I loved it and would always do those snooky side way glances in shop windows to see me pushing it.

Once that the grown out of it I bought a buggy that has been run into the ground. Got a marcalen quest this time and if I'm honest I don't especially like it

emmatmg · 01/02/2005 14:12

snooky????

sneeky I mean.

Fastasleep · 01/02/2005 14:15

Graco and maclaren are untrendy???? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO never leaves the house ever
