Mooncup

OK, so it took me a while to get over the squeemishness of thinking about this, but I am considering buying a mooncup. I am fed up with tampons and pads, and, after using millions of disposable nappies, have been thinking lately about being more eco-friendly.

So...what do users think? I have seen the site, and read the blurb, but I want real opinions, bad as well as good. £27 is a lot to invest if I only use it once. If it is as good as people seems to think, I'm surprised that I only heard about it lately.

Thanks for the advice on insertion - I will try again but too sore at the moment. I wish they would use a material that's softer (maybe the Keeper is better in this respect?). I used a cap as contraception for many years which was much bigger in circumference and I never had problems getting that in!

Really fed up of smelly STs though and don't like tampons so will persevere. Incidentally, my periods have definitely been much heavier (altho' less painful) since having DS and my GP said this is due to the fact that post childbirth your womb never really goes back to its original size. Also I guess your cervix get stretched quite a bit so it all comes out a lot quicker...

Ah what joy it is to be a woman..!

Sheila, the keeper is harder than the mooncup. I had a keeper first, the mooncup is much sogfter, try runninng under the hot tap before using it, it does may it a bit more pliable. Persevere, it is worth it, I have had mine for over two years and must have saved a fortune on tampns as I'd get through two large boxes of super plus a month.

Damn... just dropped mine down the loo, and it disappeared straight round the u-bend...I've only had it for three months as well. Just hipe it does not block the drain - I don't think I could face a plumber that had to fish it out...

sis · 29/10/2003 12:05

sorry Ange8, but that makes me laugh!!

notlob · 29/10/2003 12:07

I've done that but it didn't disappear completely. But was PIA as had to use tampons whilst I sterilised it!

I'd only just got the hang of it too! ... but the loo's still working, so every cloud ...

I first heard of 'mooncup' on the thrifty thread. When I saw this thread I was intrigued and TBH thought someone was having a laugh. I have now read this and would say I would try it. I now know I am incontinent after having DS1 cos I laughed like a drain reading this and have peed myself. Would it work for that as well do you think

wiltshire · 30/10/2003 18:31

Really really cheered me up. Keep thinking of Dogs chewed up Tennis ball.......plumbers.....dishwashers, still chuckling

suedonim · 31/10/2003 00:30

Speaking of dogs, Wiltshire, I was wondering if this would do the job just as well as a mooncup but cheaper! It comes in five sizes, too.
