Howdy lovely MN's

We are after a new mattress - medium firm. Just getting royally fed up with them sagging within a few months, never to bounce back and leaving us to sleep on a horribly lumpy mattress. It's not even that we are that heavy! Don't mind if have to rotate, tip them over, whatever, just something that lasts.

We used to buy mattresses from a company in Yorkshire, called Beauty Sleep but they seem to have gone downhill and the last one lasted 3 months, rather than the normal 10 years. So we are hoping you guys have some tried and tested mattresses that have lasted and can share which type please?

Only thing not keen on is Tempur as we've not heard a good thing from friends who spent out, spending a grand or more just to throw them away because uncomfortable.

Cheers loads!

I went to a mattress shop called Jones & Tomlin and bought the one they recommended it's transformed my sleeping and massively improved my bad back. Plus you can pay monthly I got a medium firm all natural fibres no memory foam as they refuse to sell them. I found it really helpful being able to lie down on them.

We have an Arthur Sleep one and it’s the best mattress we’ve ever slept on. It came highly ranked by either GHI/ Which (I can’t remember but it gave me confidence) when I was researching and a year later we are so happy with it. It wasn’t expensive either - I didn’t want to go for Emma etc with the very mixed review (when I looked at the time).

Ikea used to be good - we’d used those for years - however when we got another one a couple of years ago it was awful and I slept badly on it every single night, waking aching in the morning. They’d also changed the sizing to UK rather than European, making it smaller meaning it didn’t fit our bed frame.

I absolve my Emma mattress now I’ve got the right bed base.

Me and both DC have had them around 4 years but their beds were so much comfier than mine.

I had a divan made, while they had slats.

I’ve just bought a base with slats and having the best night’s sleep I’ve had in years.

Emma aren’t for everyone but I have tried quite a lot of options (even staying in a premiere inn for research 🤣)

I have a latex one from latex sense. It's getting on for 11yrs old but it's almost as good as the day I got it.

Do you flip and turn it? I'm a bit ancient now, and fear it would be difficult!
Our base is also a Euro size, and not as easy to get as a standard British one. Even Ikea don't do them here any more!

I've only done it once. Latex sense do all sorts of sizes beyond the usual range.

I have a wool filled one from the Woolroom, bloody loved it!

@longtompot I’ve had both the vagstranda and the vesteroy. Both extremely comfortable. I actually prefer the vesteroy, which just so happens to be the cheaper one.
it’s lighter and easier to handle. It’s not as deep so sheets fit better and it just feels more comfortable.
DP replaced his and his kids after sleeping at mine and my sister got my nephews them after they said they liked sleeping at my house
the Ikea warehouses have all the mattress out to try and they do the standard sizes now.

Eugh were on our 3rd in 5 years and paid over £2500 for each of them. Current one is Tempur and i love it but wish id got it to start with. In the summer we slept on ikea mattresses in our rented flat and thought they were good so we replaced them with the updated version. I dont know what it was called but was their most expensive sprung mattress and I was impressed for what they cost and would consider them if we ever need another mattress (kids are now on our cast offs so hopefully unlikely for a while). The tempur took a while to get used to but they told us this in the shop and you get a long trial period so would highly recommend but you do need to get the right firmness for you. My top tip after our issues with others is stay away from anything with a topper, they seem to go really quickly.

Vispring are very good, we’ve just bought one.

I can’t remember the brand, but we spent £££ on a mattress from a quality independent furniture store - it was ‘half and half’ so super firm for DH and medium firm for me. Did lots of checking in store lying on different mattresses etc. DH’s is still perfect while my side is very saggy (I am much lighter than DH). You can’t flip it, only rotate it, so when we do that we have to swap sides, which doesn’t work for us. So no help except to avoid one you can’t flip, and watch out for half and half ones. I finally feel we can’t justify replacing it, so only here for the suggestions. We have an Ikea one in our spare room, I might have to try it out!

Harrison spink mattresses are all hand made pure Batman ship, built to last, I would seek out a mattress made by that manufacturer

connie26 · Today 22:28

Tempur. Nothing else compares.

FateAmenableToChange · Today 22:36

John Ryan is the worst mattress I’ve ever had. Developed a solid ridge up the middle and sagging on either side in less than a year despite constant flipping. Was &1800 and had to get rid of it after 18 months.

I asked a similar question a few months ago and still searching!

I tried tempur out in a shop, but after reading reviews, would worry about getting too hot. DH runs hot anyways and I'm peri.
Others recommended this brand https://organicmatts.com/. I'm considering their 10,000 spring mattress, but trying to find more reviews before buying.
