Amazon refund: no need to return items

I ordered a few items from Amazon Haul, insanely low prices, total just over £10 with free delivery. All but one are unsuitable, too large or too tight so I’ve applied to return them. Amazon have refunded me instantly but say there’s no need to return the items. I’ve done many boxed and unboxed returns over the years, sent from the local post office, but never been told to keep the unwanted items. Had anyone else experienced this? I’ve used Amazon for years but never used Amazon Haul before.

never used Amazon haul, but I’ve had this a few times with regular Amazon returns.

fruitfly3 · 23/02/2026 15:02

Yes - quite a few times. Not unusual at all.

beccahamlet · 23/02/2026 15:03

I have gad this happen a few times.

Borborygmus · 23/02/2026 15:09

They once delivered a package for somebody else (at a different address) to our house. I tried several times to deliver it to the correct address, but there was never anybody home. So I called Amazon and asked them to collect it. They said not to bother, I could open it and keep the contents!

sesquipedalian · 23/02/2026 15:13

I have returned Amazon items - most you are asked to send back, but every now and again, I’ll get something where they say, just keep it - usually lower-priced items.

murasaki · 23/02/2026 15:16

I've had it with grocery shopping via Morrisons through them. I guess it's not worth their while to pick up the incorrect cat food. I'd rather they just didn't sub, like I asked them, so i don't have to chase the refund though. Still, the neighbour's cats like it.

EleanorPeck · 23/02/2026 15:34

I've only had that once, for an item that was less than £5 - full refund and no need to return. But I raised a return last week for a kids item (£18) which was crap and has items missing - they offered me a partial refund of £1.80 if I kept the item! Hell no. I want full refund, so they sent me QR code and I took it to post office. Didn't need to package it or anything, so that was good as I'd thrown away the Amazon box.

So it seems sometimes Amazon will issue refunds with no need to return but not always.

I once ordered double the gift vouchers I needed by mistake and was told to keep the spares! £75 in total!!

SargeMarge · 23/02/2026 15:39

I got a no need to return refund on a sofa 😂. Ordered a small 2 seater sofa for my son’s room, but then saw one cheaper at Ikea so tried to do an Amazon return and they refunded me the £260 and told me to keep it. I felt a bit bad… but got a free sofa so 🤷‍♀️

Nodirectionhome · 23/02/2026 15:43

This happened to me once but it wasn't my order. A couple of weeks after moving into my current house I received an Amazon parcel for the previous owner. I called Amazon nd asked what I should do. I am in Greater Manchester and the woman had moved to London so couldn't take it to her. Amazon just said I should keep it.

Result! And no need to feel bad as you engaged with them and they okayed it!

Amazon Haul is so cheap and comes from China , it’s not worth their time getting you to return it . I’ve had the same from them a couple of times , I think they also know the quality can be dubious on some items . Temu is the same , never been asked to return a dud item , but they do like a photo to show the issue .

morebutterthantoast · 23/02/2026 16:28

I had this a few times in the past, not recently sadly! I remember once getting a cheaply printed classic short story, I was expecting a slim paperback, and they just refunded when I requested the return.

Cuttheshurtains · 23/02/2026 16:31

I've had this happen a couple of times I suspect with things they've know full well are rubbish

Like my son ask me to order him a book and when it arrived it was clearly absolutely written by AI and was total nonsense.

YourWinter · 23/02/2026 17:15

Thank you all for the reassurance that it’s not some weird glitch at their end. I’ve never noticed Amazon Haul until last weekend and I didn’t realise it was akin to Temu, I won’t use it again. Actually nothing wrong with the quality of these items, only the fit. I’ll give them all to the charity shop, but surely if this is the new normal then people will buy things fully expecting to be refunded but still keep them. I can see that for the crazy low prices it costs them more to process returns, but it feels that it encourages dishonesty and that doesn’t sit well with me.

I've had this a couple of times with Amazon items not Amazon haul though.

Rituelec · 23/02/2026 17:26

Ive had it loads of times with amazon. Over 20 times over the years

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 24/02/2026 07:54

I’m taken with the fact that all but one of these needed to be returned, but it was just over £10! The fact the items seemingly didn’t fit their clothing, what else can you get for that price? How can they do it? 😨

Topbobble · 24/02/2026 07:59

It happens so not a glitch. Its usually items that would cost more to return and dispose of/resell or smaller businesses that sell through Amazon that have to absorb the cost which sucks. The sofa for example would cost a lot for them to collect and then dispose of.

topcat2014 · 24/02/2026 09:59

Amazon won't care they just deduct from the seller who loses out

ItsNeverDuck · 24/02/2026 11:34

It happens almost everytime i need to return something to Amazon. If you use live chat to raise the problem the chat bit almost always says they’ll refund and you can dispose of/keep the item.

Changedname9999 · 24/02/2026 13:40

Quite a nice reclining chair and footstool. Went to return and they said keep it. The wee cat loves it!

SandyY2K · 24/02/2026 13:42

I've had it before a few times with Amazon.
It tends to be with smallish cheap items, that they probably think are worth the return postage cost.

SuperMagicHappyForest · 26/02/2026 21:08

We had one of those big orange Amazon fold down boxes left in front of our house once. Nein out came round to tell us (odd in itself but probably thought we should deal with it). Weird car parked further up the road eyeing it up (so not sure if some sort of scam. We brought it in the house called Amazon and they said to keep it - about 55 parcels of varying contents. They said they would just resend it all.

The driver had literally just gone so we hoped they would contact him to come back to collect but he never did.

kept a few things, some to the clothing bank and food bank and some given away on the free sites.

we were really shocked.

ILikeSpicyNoodles · 26/02/2026 21:10

Nope, had an item left outside my property Amazon refused to refund me, had to make a charge back through my bank and they emailed me demanding the money back telling me they would charge any card registered to my account. My bank also contacted me to say Amazon had disputed the claim.
