Amazon refund: no need to return items

I ordered a few items from Amazon Haul, insanely low prices, total just over £10 with free delivery. All but one are unsuitable, too large or too tight so I’ve applied to return them. Amazon have refunded me instantly but say there’s no need to return the items. I’ve done many boxed and unboxed returns over the years, sent from the local post office, but never been told to keep the unwanted items. Had anyone else experienced this? I’ve used Amazon for years but never used Amazon Haul before.

Nope, had an item left outside my property Amazon refused to refund me, had to make a charge back through my bank and they emailed me demanding the money back telling me they would charge any card registered to my account. My bank also contacted me to say Amazon had disputed the claim.

Are you a good customer of Amazon?

A few years ago there was a big scandal uncovered where Amazon simply skipped all their returns, even the electricals, when there was absolutely nothing wrong with them. Just too expensive apparently for them to process it all back into stock.

Well, can't have them digging into profits now can we!

So i expect this is in response to that.

I've had this a few times now with inexpensive items (milk frother, kids' craft kit, to name two).

EleanorReally · 27/02/2026 06:09

yes but last time they arranged to pick it up, that was unusual

I’m exasperated by these threads! My house has an Amazon delivery on average once or twice a week and I have never, ever once been told to keep an item I’ve tried to return. And since I live very rurally, it’s a five mile round trip to the nearest post office. Even for things meet ten pounds in value. A real pain! What’s the secret?

fancytoes · 27/02/2026 07:42

It costs them more to process and receive the return for small priced items so it makes sense.

Are you a good customer of Amazon?

what does that mean? what makes someone good or bad?

CatWithThreeLegs · 27/02/2026 08:14

I had that message last week for the first time and wondered if it was a new policy of Amazon's that they didn't want returns under a certain value as it wasn't worth the hassle.

TheGoddessAthena · 27/02/2026 08:16

Not unusual, we've had it too. The cost to them of processing and restocking the things you've bought is more than the cost of them just letting you keep it.

pinkpony88 · 27/02/2026 08:43

Yes I have a huge yellow tarpaulin that was definitely not what I ordered and I was told just to keep it after they sent the correct item out. I will find a use for it one day! 😂

I paid £65 for a canvas water colour print from Fy! It didn’t work in the space when I received it and I didn’t have anywhere else to put it. I applied to return it, they refunded me and told me to keep it!
