Hi - my less than 1 yr old Bissell has just died on me (grrr...can't find the receipt either!) and I need the following:

  1. allergy/cat hair thingy
  2. pref upright as although I love the cylinder ones, they all seem to kill my back as they're hard to push when sucking enough to do a good job (if you see what I mean)
  3. Pref bagless although I know bagged are supposed to be better for allergies (dd1)
  4. Will stretch to Dyson if essential, but hear that Miele are good - I have a washing machine by them which I LOVE!

cluckyagain · 10/06/2008 15:24

What - no dyson lovers out there?!!

Thanks Bundle - my gut is going with Miele but I don't know which one to go for......pooey decision to have to make after 10 months!

Get a Sebo - amazing!

RubySlippers · 10/06/2008 15:26

i love my Dyson

just bought the dyson baby (ball)

v lighweight, and small and very easy to empty

we had our last Dyson for 5 years and finally gave up the ghost 2 months ago

cluckyagain · 10/06/2008 15:26

Needamassage - OK - which one?

Second vote for sebo - known as asbo in our house! Vacuum with attitude! Best if pet hair involved.

mandylifeboats · 10/06/2008 15:30

Automatic X1.1 model

wotulookinat · 10/06/2008 15:34

The only vacuum that I have had that has lasted more than 6 months is my Dyson. I find it a bit bulky and an odd shape (it's the small one, not an upright) but it's still going strong after 5 years!

cluckyagain · 10/06/2008 15:35

Ruby - I was wondering if anybody had one - they look seriously cool. The only bad thing I'd heard (except the price!) was that they were very small and took ages to hoover a larger space? Thanks Mandylifeboats - again - may I ask which one?

Sorry mandy - crossposts!

Just bought a Dyson all floors. Fantastic.

I had a Miele before but wasn't nearly as efficient.

I have all hard wood and tiled floors with only one rug.

RubySlippers · 10/06/2008 15:51

they are pretty whizzy and fast

the ball makes it easier TBH

i also have a mix of carpet, slate and tiled floors and it is great on all of them

yes, it is pricey but if we get another 5 years out of it again, then i would consider it an investment

Izzybel · 10/06/2008 16:20

I have just got a Dyson DC08 allergy (one of the cylinder ones though.) I think it's fab, especially as I have a cocker spaniel who moults like crazy! I used to have a really crappy cheap vacuum cleaner and it used to take me ages just to vacuum one room. Now it takes me half the time. I also have a mixture of carpets, tiles and laminate floor and it does them all. I think you can get something similar in an upright. I chose the cylinder just because I thought it might be easier to store.

Boco · 10/06/2008 16:22

a vote for Sebo. Is good.

cluckyagain · 10/06/2008 16:25

Thanks guys - it sounds like the Dysons are great, the Miele's are OK and the Sebos' are fab - I shall investigate further!xx

I've had two Dysons which were rubbish but now have a Miele Cat and Dog which is hugely better .

Sebo every time.

JennsterSlugSlayer · 10/06/2008 16:32

Had 2 Dysons and they just broke all the time. Have a Miele and it's great with a handle that extends to a super long height if you are tall.

iMum · 10/06/2008 16:34

Having had this dilema a few weeks ago I bought the sebo on some very wise mumsnetters advice-it is fantastic! I really really cant rate it enough! I have clean floors, clean doormats and betst of all clean rugs!!!!!

Really SEBO all the way

plus I got it from kitchen village .co.uk and had fab service.

iMum · 10/06/2008 16:35

Plus I have the hairiest dog and the sebo has been fab.

cluckyagain · 10/06/2008 16:42

OKay - Houston we have a difference of opinion. I knew there was a reason I asked you lovely lot!!! Hmm - point about Miele and extendable handle is good - me very tall! Summary seems to be:
Dyson - can be fab but plops if unreliable
Miele - usually great
Sebo - great!

cluckyagain · 10/06/2008 16:43

Imum - which Sebo do you have?

OP posts:
iMum · 10/06/2008 17:16

the x4 extra, £199 on kitchen village

foofi · 10/06/2008 17:17

I love my Sebo. It's a Felix - don't know the model number.
