Macbook users-are they seriously faster/better than a windows laptop? Am getting so bored of waiting for mine to load.

Hate my slow laptop. I am so lucky to have a laptop, but it is SO SLOW!!! It is only just a year old but I have to go and make a cup of tea while it loads, I can't have two things going on at once and it is driving me nuts! I am not (really, well, maybe) sure I can get a new laptop in the near future as this one is only 18 months old but it's driving me so so mad!!! And which macbook do you recommend !!

is it the computer or your internet speed. that said I love macs so i would go for one over a pc any day

SofiaAmes · 09/06/2008 19:16

All my friends who have "crossed over" have been 150% happy with their decision.
Macs are sooooooo much better.

What do you do on your laptop...much easier to advise on a specific computer when we know your needs.

brimfull · 09/06/2008 19:36

oh oh oh

I have brand spanking new macbook

my old laptop was dying a death

this is soooo sexy

quick,gorgeous just fab

I am in lurve

vonsudenfed · 09/06/2008 19:38

Mac every time for me; faster, better-looking, doesn't crash....

Herodias · 09/06/2008 19:44

Macs are wondrous

Habbibu · 09/06/2008 19:46

My PC laptop is pretty quick - have never tried a MacBook, but really am just entertained that we could start a new MN schism right here - do you think all mac users are lentil weavers, for example?

PigeonPie · 09/06/2008 19:52

Ilovebunting, I should wait just a few hours as, according to DH, Steve Jobs is giving is annual speech at the World Wide Developers' Conference in San Fransisco as I type!

Then look on www.apple.com/uk for stuff or www.macrumorslive.com/ for what Mr Jobs is saying now! (these links courtesy of DH who is a real Mac geek - sadly, I get his cast offs

PigeonPie · 09/06/2008 19:53

Sorry forgot to put the links in Mac Rumours and for the Apple site

Ilovebunting · 09/06/2008 21:00

Oooooooh thank you all! I use it for storing music and photos (not playing with them sadly tho as don't know how!), essays, lecture notes, looking up cases on the internet, the occasional browsing of the internet shopping world, and the tiniest, weeniest bit of mn-ing! It crashes if I open i tunes with anything, or if I open two safari windows, or if I open a word document with a safari window, or if I save, and it is driving me mad! I have virus scanner on so it;s not (or shouldn't be!) a virus!

When I am considering areas for real estate investment, I always try to ascertain whether the gays and the mac owners are moving in (a sure sign that the area is on the way up).

SofiaAmes · 09/06/2008 21:03

oh, you will be soooo happy with a mac book. Probably just the simplest one will do. I'm at work (on my 24" imac), but when I'm home I'll do you a link to a few recommendations.

And once you have your mac you will be able to do all sorts of unimaginable things to your music and photos!!!!

Ilovebunting · 09/06/2008 21:04

He he! I get a discount too for being a student, and pressed my nose against the window of the mac store tonight and may be slightly more convinced that I may need one!

go on, go on, go, on, go, on, go on, go on, go on.......

MacBooks are the dog's bolleaux

Steve Jobs has announced the new iPhone (much cheaper and faster than the old one . Dunno about the Macbook- the MacBook Air was relatively recent, so maybe not on the cards...

squeaver · 09/06/2008 21:22

It's a hare vs a tortoise - absolutely no comparison whatsoever

Ilovebunting · 09/06/2008 21:24

Think they were talking about releasing snow leopard more than a new macbook, but want an air anyway (I know, I know, not much for your money and should get a pro), but it would fit in my bag without weighing a ton, which is a major major plus!!! Should i wait until the new software comes out? Will it be really faffy/expensive to upgrade?

thanks !

Ilovebunting · 09/06/2008 21:27

I cycle and use a mooncup, but can't ever remember eating a lentil , and don't wear sandles, am I exempt?

OP posts:
tissy · 09/06/2008 21:28

hmmm.... must admit I wouldn't wait for Snow Leopard- there can be glitches with a new version of the operating system, and upgrading is a doddle (had Tiger, waited a few months, inserted Leopard disc and

that was it. It worked.

Immediately.

Everything was fine, nothing lost

Ilovebunting · 09/06/2008 21:30

Oh My God! No glitches? On an INSTALL? I need a mac, so badly!!!! Who has which mac on here? Which would you say is the best value for £? XX

tissy · 09/06/2008 21:34

I had bought a plug-in hard drive for the installation just in case, and didn' t need the feckin thing after all (Though now I have Time Machine, I back up several times a week, which must be a good thng!)

Ilovebunting · 09/06/2008 21:37
