Macbook users-are they seriously faster/better than a windows laptop? Am getting so bored of waiting for mine to load.

Hate my slow laptop. I am so lucky to have a laptop, but it is SO SLOW!!! It is only just a year old but I have to go and make a cup of tea while it loads, I can't have two things going on at once and it is driving me nuts! I am not (really, well, maybe) sure I can get a new laptop in the near future as this one is only 18 months old but it's driving me so so mad!!! And which macbook do you recommend !!

ooh, careful with Time capsule...if it's anything like Airport Extreme, you'll need a modem, too- check before you buy. I spent hours trying to work out why it didn't work, and it's all there in the description if you read it carefully!

I've got DH's old 12" PowerBook G4 which I love because of the size. They don't do a 12" any more, but it's ideal for me and my small lap! I think the smallest they now do is 15" which is what DH has got (MacBook), he's also persuaded my Ma to get a MacBook and Pa has a Mac Mini - we're rather over populated with Macs here

fairibell · 09/06/2008 21:46

Just a thought before you run out and spend lots - what amount of RAM do you have in your current laptop - it is very very easy to upgrade it and make your laptop much much faster for under £40!! just involves unscrewing the back and pushing it in a slot! would invalidate the warrenty but as is a year old will be out of it anyway!

very very easy to do, reasonably cheap and makes a HUGE difference!

aDad · 09/06/2008 21:46

macbook here

love at first sight.

Not thaaat expensive either.

tortoiseSHELL · 09/06/2008 21:47

Dh just switched my laptop onto using Linux and it is SO much better than Windows. I had to log on using Windows, and I can't believe I used it for so long! Might be a cheaper option to try first (linux is free!)

Habbibu · 09/06/2008 21:48

Linux! A 3 way-schism...

tissy · 09/06/2008 21:48

13" is smallest

why upgrade a pc when you can have a Mac?

CurrantBM · 09/06/2008 21:48

Only ever had Macs, completely happy with them.

Habbibu · 09/06/2008 21:49

Actually, Linux should be the lentil-weaver's OS of choice, surely?

tortoiseSHELL · 09/06/2008 22:17

I love it! And ds1 who is 6 is using it too! (Notes the Windows is definitely the Fruit Shoot of OS!).

Habbibu · 09/06/2008 22:26

Linux is like a mooncup - you know you should, it's great when you do, but it just seems too difficult and alien. I should really start a new thread.

Habbibu · 09/06/2008 22:30

and I have. Will leave you all in peace.

Ilovebunting · 11/06/2008 15:52

I did it, I did it, I did it! Mid-range macbook, 3 year apple protection and iWork '08, all for the grand total of £804! I am in love, now have my second child and need no more!! . We are made for each other!

congratulations. Welcome to the other side!!

Try this program for watching dvd's: it works for getting around the region limits that the macs have. Make sure you set it as your default program for DVD's so it opens when you insert one.

He he, I acutually accidentlally said to the assistant "I'm officially a lentil weaver now!" and it took about 10 minutes to explain to him what a lentil weaver was! Am v impressed that they do in store "how to use your mac" sessions, and one-to-one tuition (I want to learn how to do good things to my bad photos). I can't believe how easy and natural it is to use-stupid anal windows with your non-sensicle (sp?) rubbish systems!!

Congratulations to Ilovebunting - welcome to the world of the Mac

Pruners, I know what you mean about 'the Rage' - the Apple key is so useful and you just get used to the @ sign being on the number 2 (well it is on my PowerBook).

Also know what you mean about being a bit of a lentil weaver, DH and I are too!

EyeballsintheSky · 14/06/2008 11:40

Congratulations on the 'birth'!

I feel quite left behind on my two year old 'BlackBook' but I am about to get my second iPhone yum yum! And I have never eaten a lentil in my life, let alone weaved one.

Up yours Micro$oft!
