Please can someone clarify my rights
i purchased an online item and changed my mind
the retailer is refusing to accept the return instead offering A 15 percent discount
my understanding is that I am able to change my mind within 14 days ? The item is non perishable and not personalised
why are they being so difficult?

You are legally entitled to return it if bought online and get a full refund. You need to inform them within 14 days of your intention to return and then have a further 14 days to return it. Is it a UK company? Who have you bought the item from?

Sounds like an online sale and this is the law - copy and paste from gov.uk:

Online, mail and phone order sales
Online, mail and telephone order customers have the right to cancel their order for a limited time even if the goods are not faulty. Sales of this kind are known as ‘distance selling’.
You must offer a refund to customers if they’ve told you within 14 days of receiving their goods that they want to cancel. They have another 14 days to return the goods once they’ve told you.
You must refund the customer within 14 days of receiving the goods back. They do not have to provide a reason.

She doesn't have to provide a reason, she's within 14 days and they are not upholding the law. So chargeback. But she does need to return the item.

@Tobytyke what is the actual web address you ordered from? Is it a UK site (look at their returns address)? If they arent based in the UK it would be hard to get them to refund you. Do a chargeback on your credit card if they refuse to refund.

I’m afraid this has dodgy fake site written all over it. No contact address on the contact Us page, just a form and email. I bet the endorsements from Vogue etc are not real. This brand will disappear in a few weeks and be replaced with the same product by a different name.

The next thing they will tell OP is that only full priced items can be refunded. But the item is ALWAYS on a ‘discount’.

Going through your credit card with the product not working as promised (because it’s cheap plastic crap) might be your only option here, OP.

Return and Refund Conditions Eligibility for Return

  • Reason for Return: Returns must be based on valid reasons such as manufacturing defects or malfunctions. Returns for reasons without justification of functional defect will not be accepted.
  • Remote Inspection: Before sending a product for physical inspection, an initial remote inspection is conducted. This step helps evaluate and diagnose the reported issues through visual or video evidence provided by the customer.
Return Process
  • Initial Steps: Before initiating a return, please contact our customer service at [email protected] to obtain a Return Authorization (RA) number. Returns without an RA number will not be accepted.
  • Form Submission: Complete the return form provided by our customer service team, detailing the reason for the return and confirming that all return conditions have been met.
  • Shipping: Customers are responsible for return shipping costs. The product must be shipped using a trackable shipping method to ensure it reaches us.
Inspection and Refund
  • Upon receipt of the returned product, an independent inspection company will assess the product to ensure it meets all return conditions.
  • Inspection Fee: If the product is found to be non-defective and returned for reasons other than damage or malfunction, an inspection and processing fee of $49 will be deducted from the refund.

Non-Refundable Situations
  • Products returned without an RA number.
  • Products showing signs of physical damage or misuse.
