I've lived in jeans and jumpers since my son was born 6 years ago and it's time to dust off my wardrobe and have a refresh. I would love one go to outfit for going for dinner and going for cocktails and dancing etc. please tell me if this is too formal: https://www.nobodyschild.com/products/hertiage-check-mini-skirt-b254983brn?cjdata=MXxZfDB8WXww&variant=54668557386113&cjevent=41150bb8b4c611f0832500f10a18ba74&utm_source=CJ&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=Lyst+Ltd

Cocktails could be fine as in shopping and cocktails but in reality it’s a bit dark and boring so if you want to give out fun vibe - it won’t do imo.

Thank you! Any suggestion? I'm so out of touch with fashion and have no idea what to wear! I'm 5 foot 7 and a size 10/12.

Looks more like work wear to me....

I'd go for something from their date night range...https://www.nobodyschild.com/products/black-velvet-bow-detail-mini-dress-d254990blk?queryID=1a93ca7c0400c5fd650292217f163cb9

I like it but would go with suede boots rather than leather to soften it up

Blushingatthispost · 29/10/2025 13:25

This is absolutely lovely but unfortunately the shirring won't suit me!

That's what I though! Suede ankle boots and tights! Its so classy. But I am afraid it could look too much like workwear like some pp have said....

I have similar ish but lighter skort rather than skirt and I do wear it for work or for a day out shopping followed by a meal. I wouldn;t say it is a cocktails/dancing outfit

MaplePumpkin · 29/10/2025 13:47

This definitely isn’t for cocktails and dancing in my opinion. It’s nice, but it’s more something I’d wear for work, or with boots and a chunky knit for a Sunday walk and pub lunch. Or shopping with the girls on a Saturday. For cocktails and dancing I’d definitely want something a bit jazzier, colourful, sleek…more “out out” vibes.

Twattergy · 29/10/2025 13:48

Its a nice skirt but not a cocktails and dancing outfit. I'd be thinking more like silky wide trousers and a waistcoat or strapless top for evening, or a short boxy dress if you like getting your legs out?

sweetpickle2 · 29/10/2025 13:53

If you want a mini skirt, I think a leather/fake leather is less workwear and can be easily dressed up or down depending on occasion. Some nice ones-

This sounds amazing but I'm afraid I'm not very fashionable and couldn't pull this off 😂

You know what I need something for pub lunches as well (live in the countryside and absolutely love a good Sunday lunch!) Might just order it anyways for that- got some nice boots that go with that!

And yes I always like to get my legs out- definitely my best asset so any suggestions on a dress let me have it 😊

Yesss go for it, it will be perfect for that!

ilovepixie · 29/10/2025 16:51

It’s not really going out wear. More work wear.

mamagogo1 · 29/10/2025 16:57

I’d opt for black or denim for evening use, or perhaps corduroy again dark colours. Does depend where you are, going out for cocktails and dancing in my town doesn’t necessitate changing from your shopping clothes (or gardening quite frankly, very casual) whereas up north I felt very underdressed despite making an effort

thesecondmrsdewinter20 · 29/10/2025 21:35

I think it’s great and perfect for dinner / cocktails etc. The skirt is far too short to be workwear imo

TenGreatFatSquirrels · 29/10/2025 21:46

It’s not formal at all OP… it’s a mini skirt.

Thank you! Yes that's so true, a bit too short for the office maybe

Comefromaway · 30/10/2025 15:20

I'm wearing a skirt about the same length in the office today.

That's so funny to hear, might there be a North -South divide in terms of dressing up? Im based in the North West (but I'm not British)- might have to up my game a bit! Good excuse to go shopping 🤣

Joeninety · 31/10/2025 21:01

It's a very classy and flattering look, people that know, know. But I'd ditch those awful boots.

Thelankyone · 31/10/2025 21:25

It’s like sexy corporate, far too short for the office, but also not suitable for dancing and cocktails either as a bit drab.

a leather mini is a good alternative, but it’s a bit dated now, which you might spot when out. I would also second wide leg trousers, a silk top, waistcoat, sort of thing, you will see. It’s less about fashion and more about being current.
