husband and i share cooking (but he enjoys it more and had greater success than i) and he would prefer gas for controlability but i think ceramic would be so much easier to keep looking clean

surely ceramic can be controlled just as well?

am off out now but will reply later in day

Gas all the way.

As long as you have a gas supply at your cooker point

norkmaiden · 31/05/2008 08:38

Gas SO much better to cook on.

And your electricity bills will prob go through the roof with ceramic hob too.

sophiewd · 31/05/2008 08:38

Gas

Slouchy · 31/05/2008 08:39

Ceramic does clean well and looks shiny etc. Halogen better than plain ceramic - more controllable and faster.
But I would have gas every time. We moved into a house with halogen hob fitted 9 months ago and I still miss my gas hob

Nbg · 31/05/2008 09:08

I love my Ceramic hob to bits and would never have gas ever again.

All that fiddly cleaning.
No thanks.

WideWebWitch · 31/05/2008 09:09

Gas, every time.

stitch · 31/05/2008 09:10

ceramic. and my opinion will carry the most weight, because i do most of the cooking,
personally, i think controllability is better on ceramic. and hate gas for the very reasons that most people profess to love it.
its just a matter of what you are used to

Blandmum · 31/05/2008 09:14

Gas. I've had both (and had halogen) and ceramic just isn't as controllable and is a bugger to keep clean

and i cook a lot.

Halogen. Love it. Heats instantly, totally controllable.

Smittals · 31/05/2008 09:49

On the subject of gas hobs, have just found out from corgi inspection that a gas hob in a kitchen without direct vent to the outside can't be approved - carbon monoxide build up apparently. So our hob in kitchen that opens into lean to is having to come out! mFI never asked us about windows...

SarahLeosMum · 31/05/2008 12:17

You could try an induction hob. More expensive than a normal ceramic but the best of both worlds. Your pans need to be magnetic though.

Flamesparrow · 31/05/2008 12:19

Gas

WigWamBam · 31/05/2008 12:24

Gas every time.

I hate electric hobs; they really are not as easily controlled as gas and I find them horrible to cook with. You can't regulate the temperature anywhere near as easily.

joash · 31/05/2008 12:29

I have no choice, I'm stuck with gas here (private rental). I had gas for years until we had our first professionally fitted kitchen (years ago), since then I wouldn't have anything other than ceramic. Ceramic hobs don't make much (if any) difference to your leccy bill. They are so much easier to clean and can be controlled as well, if not better than gas.
