Is this sofa gorgeous or horrid?

I am crazy about this sofa, but can't decide whether it is because it's a beautiful sofa, or because it is very different an un-beige, and therefore will hate it in 6 months!

Argh that didn't work! It's in steely blue silky cotton velvet, it won't let me copy the address showing the fabric and colour

greenday · 22/05/2008 13:40

Gorgeous!

Sidge · 22/05/2008 13:41

It's lovely but the legs look a bit spindly.

Will you be having young children jumpingon it anywhere near it?

hatwoman · 22/05/2008 13:42

like it. but in order to make it work, and you to stay liking it I think you need it to fit in your house. if that makes sense. to me it looks like it belongs somewhere a bit arty and eclectic. and needs some interesting slightly bashed cushions. and preferably an old persian rug. I think it would like very different (and not to my taste and with a shorter shelf-life) if it had dead trendy, this year, John Lewis shiney wall-paper and cushions. it needs to like like it's always been there. but that's just my very humble opinion. which, were you to see my house, would have very little credibility

Feelingbetterslowly · 22/05/2008 13:42

Ha ha, don't worry, I'll be paying for it later when the bill comes through!! Have always had hand me down sofas and got my arm chairs from the charity shop, so am really scared about paying more than £15, so am getting pre-buying jitters!! I love you all for saying gorgeous! xxx

Oh it is GORGEOUS!

hatwoman · 22/05/2008 13:43

look like...

pagwatch · 22/05/2008 13:43

it is really lovely

Buda · 22/05/2008 13:44

It's lovely but I am not personally keen on the legs. I always think they look to spindly and as a fat heifer I would be worried that I would break the side I sit on!!!

Feelingbetterslowly · 22/05/2008 13:46

We have got john lewis curtains-argh! And 4 next cushions (but the rest are nice!) But the rest of the house is pretty old and thrown together-we've got brown carpets, cream walls, sash windows and v uneven foot high skirting boards-so not JL at all!! I love the boho look, just haven't (yet) had the cash to pull it off (I live in hope!) Can always build the lounge around it though xx

Like it - want one

RosaLuxembourg · 22/05/2008 13:48

I like. I want the armchair in blue velvet. One day...

Feelingbetterslowly · 22/05/2008 13:49

Alas I'm not buying it to sit on, I'm buying so I can sit in a cheapo chair and look at it with lustyness because it's too expensive for my cheapo derrier! However I'm sure the dd and her cornetto will soon destroy get to grips with it-it will be the guest seat!

I could re-inforce the legs?

OP posts:
Feelingbetterslowly · 22/05/2008 13:52

Ok, maybe I will sit on it, once, in clean pj's after I have just had a head to toe wash! Or maybe sprawl all over it in totaly disregard for the spindle leg consequences stuffing my face with haribo and watching the apprentice wondering if I ever could cope being married to Alan Sugar. You'd never see him would you, and he would probably give you a "couple of quid" for Harvey Nicks-he does look after his guys well!

brimfull · 22/05/2008 13:54

my friend has this one and despite it's looks it is very robust.

Feelingbetterslowly · 22/05/2008 13:56

But you like the sofa itself don't you mrscarrot? Ooooh ggirl I love that in the pink stripe but it won't fit through my front door!! Rubbish!!

I have the same style exactly but in a raspberry velvet-like chenille, have owned it eight years at least, has survived children from babyhood to teenagerdom and numerous TV dinners and indian takeaways. It is still perfect and the seat covers go in the washing machine. It is the most comfortable sofa I have ever sat on in my life. Just lovely. Raspberry is a good colour to disguise most of what life throws at it. legs are not spindly. My children leap about on the sofa

MrsCarrot · 22/05/2008 13:58

Oh, yes, it's lovely, really deep and comfortable. The ceramic castors didn't last long though due to dcs jumping on it, we've got brass ones now.
