Non people carrier with three kids in the back?

BalloonSlayer · 22/05/2008 09:53

Have 3 DCs - baby in car seat and two in boosters.

Can't get all three in the back of my car.

I don't dislike people carriers but DH has one so I wondered whether there were ANY non-people carriers in which I could get all three of them in the back.

Someone told me that those retro-looking Chrysler things (can't remember what they are called but they look like ChuggaBoom from Wacky Races) can fit three in the back. I was very excited as I luuurve those. But looking on the website I don't think so.

Apologies if this query comes up every week but I am grateful for any advice.

We had 2 boosters and an infant seat in the back of a Ford Fiesta

The 'possible but pita' argument is one to seriously consider. I can in theory get 3 in the middle row of my Zafira, but I only ever do it in dire circumstances because it's a nightmare. You have to shove seats from side to side in order to get the buckles done and my DDs who can normally fasten themselves in need help. There is no way I would do this on a daily basis.

We have 3 in the back of our Grand Scenic.

Thanks everyone.

I have actually achieved "possible but pita" this morning as I saw a car seat in Halfords which is skinner than the others. It just about goes in (with no children). As you say though, it won't be for everyday use, but it's good to know that I can give DH a lift if necessary.

There aren't many cars though, are there? Most of those recommended above ARE people carriers anyway. Mine is a Citroen C5, and it's a big car, makes you spit. . .

Was thinking this morning if I was on Dragon's den or something I'd try to invent a double/triple booster seat. Shame I am so unintelligent and can't design it myself.

Honda FRV will do it too (liked the look of this myself, but has a crap boot).

fryalot · 22/05/2008 13:42

Vauxhall Vectra fits two high backed booster seats and a stage 2 toddler seat in quite easily.

amner · 22/05/2008 13:42

X5

3girlies · 22/05/2008 14:01

Fiat Doblo - cheap to buy and insure, fits 3 car seats along the back seats, huge boot, I love it, but it is ugly.

lljkk · 22/05/2008 19:02

Most estate cars.

ChippyMinton · 22/05/2008 19:59

It depends on the seats - Dh's vectra estate has sculpted seats and although 3 fit, the outer two are on a sloope, which i don't like. My mondeo estate has a bench seat and we've had every combination you can think of it it. Depends on the car seats too - buy the narrowest you can find if you want to do up the seatbelts without cursing.

ChippyMinton · 22/05/2008 19:59

slope

OrmIrian · 22/05/2008 20:02

We have a laguna estate. Big enough for an 11yr old, 9yr old and 5 yr old. But leg room starting to be a problem for the biggest one.

emkana · 22/05/2008 20:04

we have a Honda FRV and are very happy with it.

Also has three seats in the front which is handy.

thisisyesterday · 22/05/2008 20:05

man at the volvo garage assured us he fits 3 in the back of his.
I do hope he wasn't lying because we're about to buy one

forevercleaning · 23/05/2008 13:54

what about a 4 wheel drive?

cluelessnchaos · 23/05/2008 14:00

used to have volvo s60 and could do it, now have xc90,

I have a Zafira but there is no way I can fit 2 baby seats and a booster in there. Apparently by law if you can not fit a 3rd seat in the back of the car you dont have to use one. BUT you have to have 3 children occupying all 3 seats at the same time for this to apply.
My eldest has to go on a boosters seat as hes not quite tall enough yet. So if all 5 of us are out he sits in the back without a booster. If there are 4 of us he has to sit in the front on his booster.

Hope that makes sense

We do as MumTo3Boyz in our Ford Focus.

We are picking up a Fiat Multipla tomorrow morning.

silverfrog · 23/05/2008 17:41

Honda FRV - we have one and love it. We regularly have: dsd (18 and dss (16), dd1 (nearly 4) and dd2 (15 months, still rear-facing), Dh & I, a double buggy (P&T so not the smallest) and our dog (a rottweiler!) in ours, and could still get about half a weeks shopping in if needed (but don't because the dog would scoff it!).

All that in a normal sized car (it's only the same length as an Audi A3...)
