Non people carrier with three kids in the back?

BalloonSlayer · 22/05/2008 09:53

Have 3 DCs - baby in car seat and two in boosters.

Can't get all three in the back of my car.

I don't dislike people carriers but DH has one so I wondered whether there were ANY non-people carriers in which I could get all three of them in the back.

Someone told me that those retro-looking Chrysler things (can't remember what they are called but they look like ChuggaBoom from Wacky Races) can fit three in the back. I was very excited as I luuurve those. But looking on the website I don't think so.

Apologies if this query comes up every week but I am grateful for any advice.

volvo V70, no problem

MilaMae · 23/05/2008 18:05

I'm starting to wonder if we have an extra large Zafira as we always had 2 carseats and 1 babyseat in it across the back no probs at all.

Now got 2 booster seats(with backs) and 1 carseat across the back no probs at all. Was recently fitted for the 3rd booster seat to go across the back(won't be using it for a while)and again no probs at all. They undo their carseats fine(but I always check they haven't undone the carseat in error as once realised I'd driven round alll day with the middle carseat unbuckled)

My friend has 4 kids and manages to get all 6 of them and a dog in

Now what I want is a car that accomodates 3 kids-with sliding doors as one of these days one of my dc is going to seriously dent somebody else's car door. They all seem to pile out at the same time with doors flung back in gay abandon and I'm never quick enough to leap out to open the doors myself!!!!!!!

Another vote for the Vectra. Brother has a 5 yo, a 2.5yo and sprog on the way. They've tried all the seats together and three seats no problem.

shinyshoes · 23/05/2008 18:16

I got 2 booster seats and 1 car seat in my Ford Escort (although I do mostly put baby in the front.)

Hubby can get all 3 in the back of his Mondeo too.

yomellamoHelly · 23/05/2008 18:16

Mondeo does. We have second and third stage car seats. And tried it out with the first in as well before we bought it.
Our neighbour has a picasso with 2 stage two car seats and a stage one in.
The type of car seats has an influence too.

shinyshoes · 23/05/2008 18:18

forgot to add, he got the booster seats from Tescos, the black ones they are narrower, the other ones we had didnt fit, they were standard ones. we found this out when baby came along

Nbg · 23/05/2008 18:22

We've got a Jaguar X-Type and we have 3 in the back of that, all with different stage car seats. From baby to booster.

mumofdjandbabies · 23/05/2008 19:46

direct.tesco.com/q/R.202-4756.aspx

shinyshoes · 23/05/2008 19:51

it hasnt got a back though. Its a booster seat

mumofdjandbabies · 23/05/2008 20:28

ah thanks

need a backed one

thanks tho!

BalloonSlayer · 23/05/2008 20:47

The skinniest ones I have managed to get so far are the Graco ones.

£12.99 at Halfords, though marked at £16.99.

The one I got was about 4" less wide than the Britax one.

There is one with a back which is much the same width but much more expensive.

I did see some in Woolworths which looked slim.

This is all very interesting.

I very much like the look of the Honda FRV. But not the price. OMFG!! And it does look a bit like a people carrier...

Hi dont suppose you could tell me a name honey so I could try to look it up?

thanks

clutteredup · 23/05/2008 20:58

We have a Nissan Xtrail which fits a stage 2 seat and 2 britax booster seats with backs.

BalloonSlayer · 23/05/2008 21:06

Hope this works (never done it before, oooh errr)

I feel guilty though . . . just out at the car checking the name, and it's more like 2" thinner than the Britax one. Sorry. And no, I am not a man.

The arms/handles/things you tuck the seat belt into seem to stick out much less with the Graco ones.

Sorry you wanted one with a back, well this is the thinnest I have seen SO FAR (still continuing my quest though)

have you looked at this booster? They are narrow.

mumofdjandbabies · 23/05/2008 22:04

ooh food for thought there thanks

wonder how wide in cm the britax high liner is ..................

the gracos are all 41cm i have managed to assertain

nannyL · 24/05/2008 09:56

i fit 3 in the back of my renault clio [shock}

group 1 group 2 and group 3 seat

nannyL · 24/05/2008 09:58

and the group 2 seat that i use is the britax highliner

BalloonSlayer · 24/05/2008 10:16

according to this the britax highliner is 49cm wide. Although it looks quite wide at shoulder height.

OP posts:
nannyL · 24/05/2008 10:55

its widest point is about "elbow" height

Enid · 24/05/2008 11:01

multipla has three full sized seats in the back - any combo of car seats fit

also three in the front, very useful

lanismum · 24/05/2008 11:28

We have a Nissan almera tino and fit a britax evolva (think its called evolva?) 123 (which is obese in car seat terms), a maxi cosi priori, and at times fit my cousins dd in in her maxi cosi cabrio (rear facing infant carrier) tis a bit of a squeeze, but do-able, especially if you had a slimmer high backed booster than the britax!
